It evidently takes a lot to be recognised by Michelin. Hard work, long hours, consistency and complete dedication to the job…not to forget amazing food and service! However, with an estimate of near to 4000 restaurants in Wales – according to TripAdvisor…and my counting ability (argh!); it pains me to see that as a country, Michelin have only seen it fit to award Wales with 7, highly deserved, Michelin Stars. This, added to the fact that up until last week only The Felin Fach Griffin in Brecon held a Bib Gourmand (criteria to offer three courses for under £28), and just 45 restaurants appear in the Guide itself. I say ‘pains’, because I personally believe that there are a number of excellent establishments throughout Wales, who operate somewhat under the radar and don’t always get the recognition they deserve…anyway I’ll hop down off my soapbox now…
It’s a hard life being a food blogger. You see, every week I “need” to eat at a different restaurant otherwise I won’t have anything to write about. #FirstWorldProblems. The problem is, ever since I visited the Hare & Hounds near Cowbridge last September, I’ve wanted to eat there every week instead of trying somewhere new. Yesterday, I finally returned, and it was just as frigging awesome as the last time.
Great stop on way home to South dorset after a weekend in Devon. Just what we needed, a decent hot carvery and comfortable sofa seating. Added bonus of dog friendly. Delicious gammon and cauliflower cheese.
We were on holiday at sidbury and this was the closest pub to was
Was a good Sunday afternoon experience
The food quantity was huge the taste was alright. Nothing out of the ordinary
The steak alone was fantastic
Fish and chips average
The stroganoff we ordered wasn't like a stroganoff at all.
They have a small kids play area outside which was a bonus.
Came up for on Saturday, food was amazing. Lovely welcome from staff as we walked through the door, dogs made very welcome too! Carvery looked amazing and kitchen meals plated up really well. A big well done to all the staff working hard. Lovey traditional pub feel. Will definitely be back
Can't believe we've never visited here before. Outstanding! Honestly THE best carvery we've ever had. Two veggies in the group and we had a wonderful home made nut roast. The meat looked excellent quality and loads of it. I've not been so full in a long time. Great staff, wonderful location, excellent value for money. Can't rave about it enough!
Visited this pub last night and had a wonderful meal. I had the chicken burger which was delicious and my friend had a carvery which was superb as always. The staff were very welcoming and professional. They were all smiling and very friendly to us. They had the fire lit so it was warm and cozy in the bar. 100% would visit again.
Absolutely amazing staff and food! I’ve been coming to this amazing restaurant for many years after the staff were so helpful and kind following a car crash I was in nearby, the amazing waiting staff sat with me whilst the air ambulance was en route. Since then I have been a loyal customer and we have held many family meals here both large and small. The food is perfect, the carvery to die for and the waiting staff patient and kind during every visit. 100% can recommend for delicious food, fantastic service and kind and happy staff, and incredibly child friendly, they always have my daughter laughing and smiling.
We had the carvery on a Sunday. Very nice food and a good selection of meat and veg, but also very busy and we had to wait a while for our food. The Malteser and White Chocolate pavlova for dessert was delicious!
Stopped in before the local tar barrels event. Absolutely amazing, immediately welcomed by smiling staff who pointed us toward a table and handed us menus.
My friend had the burger which she said was the best she's had, cooked to perfection! I had the carvery and wow!! You can see why this place is so busy. The staff are so helpful even though its nonstop and the queueing system is great, you do t have to stand in a long queue at the carvery. Definitely be returning!!
Fantastic dog friendly restaurant, friendly helpful staff, reasonable prices, food that I tried was excellent, busy with daily carvery, the pulled pork hare and hounds burger was terrific and stuffed with pulled pork, fish and chips was cooked to perfection ,my partner had the poachers chicken and enjoyed it,will definitely return
We enjoyed a fabulous roast dinner but having booked a table a week in advanced I wasn't expecting to queue for 15 minutes to find out which table had been reserved. Service was chaotic which was such a shame as the food was amazing.
