Not Covid crazy with fantastic food and service, really great flavours in the food, great selection of rustic style food, good selection of beers on tap.
Following protocols without being intrusive or a nuisance about it.
This was the first time we had eaten here, but it won't be the last. Really enjoyed the small plate menu as lots of variety, and really tasty. Service was excellent and the venue itself is great. It's also dog friendly in the conservatory area.
Visited as a party of 9. The décor was funky and the place is bigger on the inside than what you expect. The food was good - I had the 16oz steak which was cooked beautifully - had it with a side salad instead of with the fries (and the salad tasted good). This place is let down by the service. Apart from one of the female waiting staff, the rest seemed quite abrupt, unapologetic when making mistakes, and generally were "unhappy" (hence the loss of one star).
Amazing place!! We were big group but we were able to sit immediately :) Lovely brunch and lovely coffee too :)! Good big table and really nice eggs Benedict :)!! Definitely recommend !!
We booked the suite for 2 nights to celebrate our anniversary. What a perfect choice it was too. Darwin's Kitchen was easy to find, a short walk from Wyle Cop car park, it also looked just as beautiful on the outside as it did inside. The staff were friendly and welcoming and took us up to our suite. As my husband and I opened the door and walked into our suite room we both wow'd! The room seemingly went on forever and the throws, cushions and artwork made the suite feel cosy and like home. The bed was massive and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was also huge. I highly recommend everyone to upgrade to a suite because for a very small price it is certainly worth it. On our first evening at Darwin's we went downstairs to the restaurant for a meal at our prebooked table. I ordered The Paddington which was "cocktail of the week" and my husband had a pint of Becks. For starters we had whitebait with tartare sauce and the meatballs tagliatelle, both were stunning. For mains we had chicken Kiev with roasted potatoes; and lamb with Shropshire blue mash, the cheese complimented the dish perfectly and my husband said it was the best Kiev he had ever tasted. In the mornings we had a continental breakfast and also ordered a dish from the menu to have with it. The first morning my husband had a bacon brioche bap and I had the eggs Benedict on a toasted muffin. The second morning my husband had a sausage brioche bap and I had poached eggs with crushed avocado on toast. Both breakfasts were delicious and cooked to order. Throughout our whole stay, all the staff were friendly, attentive and welcoming. We cannot thank them enough for making our first anniversary perfect.
Minute steak sandwich. This is a very good lunch. The staff were friendly and helpful. Nice atmosphere. Only reason why I don't give full score is that there is a little to loud and very annoying music going all the time.
Lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Menu looks good. We just had drinks. Delicious New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and not expensive either. We were not hungry, otherwise we would have eaten. Good mix of all ages.
Definitely a place to try out!! Couldn't fault food or service at all even the cocktails are nice.
A bit too nice
Great little spot for food in Shrewsbury. We went for brunch on a sunny spring day and managed to get a table outside. Would go back again when in town!
Fabulous service. Food was lovely. Will def be going back very soon xx
Porterhouse is a large busy bar restaurant with many rooms leading off it. It has a garden room which is quite cosy. There's plenty of staff on hand to help you and the cocktails are first class. It has a large window at the front so u can just watch the world go by.
Great night away, friendly staff, fantastic breakfast. Room was quirky if a little cold. But overall great
Great food and a lovely atmosphere with a nice selection of cocktails and drinks
I celebrated a friends 26th birthday tonight here. The food was lovely, everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. The service was brilliant, they were extremely busy and food took a little while but we were more than happy to wait. The waitress was attentive and always to hand. Thank you Darwin’s Kitchen for a lovely evening!
Fabulous place to drink, dine or both. We were slightly early so had a relaxing drink in the bar area. Our table became ready and we had a lovely meal. It was particularly busy but the waiting team were aware of the delay to our meal and made sure we were looked after. Our food was delicious and freshly prepared. Couldn't fault it. Will definitely return for another meal there when I return to Shrewsbury. I recommend heading there for a meal too.
We visted here on a late Sunday evening and was told that the chef would do us some food. We ordered from the vegan menu and were told that the chef was also vegan so we had full confidence. We both had starters which were both very nice. The main course of nut roast was so delicious that we barely spoke as we were enjoying the food so much, we would definitely return and definitely have the nut roast. Food tasted amazing. Staff were helpful, polite and knowledgeable about the menu.
