Myself and my partner stayed here in room two with a large party of friends for a convention. The room was fantastically laid out ,comfortable and clean .The evening meal was beyond reproach,I ordered the mixed grill and oh my god what a plate of food ...coudos to the chef .The desert menu was small ,but so well executed it didnt matter ,I think there were 5 or 6 options but when your able to provide that kind of quality who cares. The surroundings were fantastic just oozing history .a wonderful niché idea for a hotel . Now for a few words for the owner .. Never have i stayed in a hotel with such personable service ,nothing was too much trouble ,even going so far as too moved breakfast times just so we could eat before leaving to do a twelve hour shift .. Thank to you and all your staff you made a great weekend truely unforgettable we will be back with family and friends .

What a great place this is! Fab staff, nothing too much trouble and accommodated everything we need to celebrate a special birthday. Very quirky and only 10 minutes to york in a cab too. Food excellent. Cant recommend it enough. Thanks to John and the lovely staff!

I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to our 'room' or carriage, I was worried it would smell old and feel claustrophobic, there was no smell and it felt quite spacious, the bathroom was very modern too! My mum, my two daughters and I stayed for just one night and we all found it very exciting and novel. Unfortunately I had a dietary problem but the manager and chef were very accommodating. I am a light sleeper so I had cotton wool for my ears even though it was a Sunday night the track was still very busy but with my 'ear plugs' I slept well. Breakfast was lovely too. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. This is a hidden gem, highly recommended.

My husband found this hotel on line, We like to do something quirky for our anniversary every summer, and this really was different. You don't have to be a train buff to love the ambience of this place x The evening meal was hot, homemade and wholesome (one little gripe, service a bit to fast .... as our starter plates were taken away another waiter was bringing in our mains, and then the same with deserts) This meal was an optional extra, not included in our package but very reasonably priced from a varied menu. The rooms were all converted carriages, all ensuite. We were in the Yorkshire Pullman which was a simple double, basic but comfortable. Breakfast was served in the conservatory, looking over the railway tracks (a haven for the train buff) watching the local trains every 3-5 mins in the day. A continental breakfast was part of the package but the cooked breakfast on offer was a little extra but well worth the money. A wonderful little break on the outskirts of York. We will definitly be staying again next time we visit York Thank you for an enjoyable stay, see you next time x

Just come back from spending two nights here. Can not praise it enough. What made it so wonderful was the staff team - so friendly, welcoming and hospitable. Would thoroughly recommend for anyone who wants to stay somewhere with character and charm. We had an evening meal on our second night - was delicious and filling!

Had a lovely stay at The Sidings Hotel stayed in The Pullman room. Excellent setting lovely staff couldn’t do enough to help enjoy your stay. Very cosy with a real fire to sit and chat to fellow guests. The food was excellent and continental breakfast (included) in the offer a cooked one was available at an extra cost. Loved watching the high speed trains whizzing passed (and they do stop running at night) Would definitely stay again and a lovely way to celebrate a belated anniversary.

Fabulous converted railway carriage, a fabulous option for accommodation when in York. Beautiful room and ensuite bathroom, spotlessly clean, luxurious if anything. A lovely nights sleep, just what I needed. Wonderful staff, fabulous food, eat your evening meals here if you can. And such a unique venue, you have to stay here.

Stayed one night in the Orient Express room. We absolutely loved it, it was a very unique and enjoyable experience. It’s like going back in time. We had an evening meal which was excellent, so tasty, and this was in the comfort of an old dining carriage hotel which made the meal extra special. Staff are so welcoming and inviting, they treat you like you are family. We are hoping to visit again soon.

A quirky hotel ideal for any rail enthusiast, you need to get used to trains rushing past! The food in the restaurant is fantastic, cooked by a Greek chef, if you like Mediterranean food this is a must place to eat (not just for residents!). The room we had, in a railway carriage, was clean and very comfortable with en-suite shower and WC. A very clever conversion! The place is packed with railway relics fitting with its position right alongside the East Coast Main Line. We will definitely be back there.

Great, quirky location. The rooms in the converted carriages are really well done and there are fabulous features throughout the building. There is a large central bar/restaurant and a conservatory for dining, although we had breakfast in the dining car. Food was good and a lovely beer garden. Finally, it is located at the side of the East Coast mainline, so no shortages of trains!

Despite moving to Shipton in 2007, it was a hole year before we sampled the delights of The Sidings, which is also known as 'El Treno'. It wasn't until a menu and a takeaway menu came through the letter box that we realised that the food was in our budget. Previously through word of mouth we believed that the food was expensive. Not so. First of all we tried the takeaway service, they don't offer a delivery service but the you're made very welcome by the friendly staff if you want to place your order then wait for it to be cooked, which never takes long. The pizza's are nothing short of delumptious, clearly homemade and totally moreish, finished off beautifully with one of their greek salads. yum, juicy olives and huge chunks of feta, a meal in itself! Since the takeaway was such a big hit, and having been told by the lovely people at The sidings that children were more than welcome, we have been for 2 sit down meals. and this is where it gets a bit special! for those that don't know, The sidings is located on a main railway line, and sitting in the conservatory to eat offers fantastic views of passing trains. My daughter LOVES it. It's a lovely place to eat, very atmospheric, tasty food and friendly staff at affordable prices.

Wonderful and unique accommodation. I'm in town for a short trip and this hotel was organized for me by a coworker. I'm happy to say it was a wonderful experience with both the restaurant and accommodations. If you are a train lover this location offers a unique experience as you get to stay in a converted rail car. The food and drink were exceptional and as a foodie I quite enjoyed it all. The dessert selection is tremendous. The only downside to this place is how close it is to the train tracks. But then again that's what this place is all about - trains. Do expect to be woken up by trains passing by all through the night.

Had a Sunday meal with my husband. The menu looked wonderful. We had visited before and was impressed. On this visit. We both had mushrooms in white wine and cream sauce. We both decided to have the vegetarian moussaka with a few hand cut chips. Both choices did not disappoint. Fresh, tasty and good amount of food. You are seated in an old train carriage. There is also a main restaurant area. The location is by a railway line (with some train activity, not a lot) and lots of fields/meadows as far as the eye can see. Quite peaceful.

The number one place to go in York if you want authentic greek food and sizeable portions! We dined there Saturday evening in one of their period carriages and had a great view out over the countryside and the East Coast Mainline! Awesome service, and great atmosphere.

Wow! This place is amazing, especially for railway enthusiasts. We were greeted with a warm welcome on arrival and made to feel right at home! The service was simply outstanding! The rooms are novel and the concept of converting old coaches into rooms is great. There’s loads of railway memorabilia around too which adds to the theme. There is also a nice balcony which looks out on the railway line! The food was nice too! Drinks were fairly priced! All in all a great place - sadly not the easiest place to reach if you don’t have a car, but honestly if you get the chance to visit, then I’d say take it! It’s a unique and fun experience

My wife and I accidentally came across the Sidings when staying in York for our anniversary recently. We loved every second from the warm welcome with an open fire in the main foyer to sitting at a lovely classic table in a booth within a lovely vintage carriage. We were not sure what to expect as it was our first time but we know now it won’t be our last. The service was impeccable and having a chat and a giggle with the staff made our evening so much more then we thought it would be. Once we tucked into our food the conversation went quiet…both of us were so into our food we just forgot to talk. Then came the conversation again. Neither of us could fault anything. It was lovely. I had the rib eye while my wife had the roast pork. Wow maybe a short word but it actually is what we both said. With trains going be and both of us sitting snug at a lovely white linen covered table we just felt spoiled to be there. Thank you for an amazing time and experience. We will be back as we both want to stay there.

Met up with my family who could only meet us at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. I needed something to eat so this wonderful restaurant was one of the only places open on a Sunday late afternoon. We have been many times before it is one of our favourite restaurants, if not our favourite John and the staff Are so friendly and polite. The atmosphere is gorgeous. It was lovely and warm. The smell of the fire in the conservatory was so nice and cosy but sitting in the carriage was amazing. The best bit of course is the food my goodness we have probably been there 10 times but yesterday was definitely by far the best food we have all ever had there. Amazing can’t recommend this place high enough
