I would say this is without a doubt the best pub for food, service and atmosphere I've ever had the fortunate luck to have discovered. The landlady is the chef and she's so good that she introduced herself and personally came out to make sure we were satisfied with our food which of course was poss
stopped off just passing through the village, never been in the Downey Armes before. Had a drink and a meal with my son. 100% recommend a stop! the food is excellent good beer and friendly staff, we will definitely be popping in if we are passing again. great pub
Came in for a meal at late notice and managed to get fitted in.
Had the steak and ale pie and a french burger and both were lovely.

A wonderful inn, with wonderful food, great host and a fantastic atmosphere. All at a reasonable price. Who could. ask for more. I would recommend it to anyone. Steaks cooked to perfection as requested.

Had a wonderful lunch there recently with my family. The food was excellent, the atmosphere great (lovely roaring fire) & Victoria & Neil’s hospitality was second to none. Beer wasn’t bad either! Highly recommend a visit! 🍺😀

Great Pub. But not lively. Unless you go for one of the fantastic pub quizzes. Then you'll struggle to find a seat!
Wow. 6 of us had Sunday lunch here and not any complaints. Portion sizes nothing to complain about. Food tasted amazing. Will definitely return

Great beer selection and luncheon food. The prices are very reasonable. The staff are friendly and helpful for visitors who are from out of the country and have difficulty understanding regional accents.
Visiting family in York and so checked the reviews of local pubs for Sunday lunch. This little gem did not disappoint. Lovely pub, great food, lovely staff and excellent service. Sunday lunch was delicious. Piping hot, tasty, plentiful. The menu was extensive and well priced.

17 very wet cyclists arrived for a pre booked lunch. A roaring coal fire greeted us and we took the advantage of drying our wet clothing. Food was good a promptly served. We apologise to the other guests for all the disturbance, noise and takeover of the fire. Thank you for a good lunch.
