Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, gorgeous food & best of all we could take the dogs inside! We were seated next to the bar/door & the dogs kept getting up to greet people coming in so asked if we could be moved further inside, a member of staff moved tables around so we weren’t in the way anymore. Nothing seemed to be a bother. Will definitely be coming back.
Had a few dozen Sunday lunches, they are lovely, 2 huge dollops of pate for starters, 4 slices of roast beef with all the fresh veg & real gravy, not forgetting an ample sized yorkshire pudding. Also nice & hot.
Lovely old English pub. Very friendly staff. Great service & the food is prepared on the premises from fresh local ingredients, which by the is excellent. So much so we sent our compliments to the chef. This was our first visit, and we are looking forward to going again. Ps. Dogs are welcome too, so we will take ours next time.
Great atmosphere and very tasty food well presented and our waitress Steph was a star a a asset to it business
Lovely food and great service would definately recommend
Lovely little pub. Been taking our son to basketball at Maiden Castle for years and passed this pub every time. Only yesterday did we decide to call in for a spot of lunch. Definitely won't be the last time.
Go here nearly every Sunday, always nice food and lovely rhubarb crumble.😀👍
And great staff as well😀👍
Made very welcome by all of the staff. And never had a bad meal yet.
Visited on the off chance and the staff were very accommodating and found us a table. Friendly service and lovely food.

The best service and lovely food tonight. Thank you
This is a lovely, small, and dog friendly pub in a beautiful part of Durham next to the river. The menu is fairly typical of most pubs and is well cooked and well presented. The fact that it also has a menu for dogs makes it stand out from the rest. However, we didn't find out about that until we were about to leave, which was a shame. My pooch would have loved the chicken breast. Unfortunately, she doesn't doesn't tolerate gluten well, so no sausages for her. Never mind, we will know for next time.
This a a very friendly pub, with excellent food and drink in a nice location next to the River Wear. We were a party of four, with 2 dogs. One of our party is disabled, so we were able to use a convenient disabled parking space, and make our way into the pub using the ramps for the wheelchair. It is very dog friendly and even includes a doggy menu, although we did not take advantage of this. The food and service was excellent, and the pub also boasts a good selection of ales. The portion sizes were very generous and we were able to get a doggy bag to take the remaining portions back home with us. It's nice to enjoy such a nice establishment like this.
Really enjoyed our visit to the Rose Tree Inn. We were welcomed really warmly as we entered the building and taken to the table of our choice next to the window. The service throughout was friendly, and it only took about 10 minutes for our meals to arrive after we had ordered. We both had the steak and onion with melted cheese in a caibatta ( which was probably the nicest one I have had, and the cheese was melted into the gravy).
The food was amazing.
The mixed grill was beautiful. I asked for medium rare and the steak was more medium but still delicious. The other meats were perfectly cooked and the chips were amazing.
The burger was also very tasty and juicy.
Really wanted a dessert but we were too full!
It is a little pricey but well worth it!
Excellent Sunday lunch, highly recommend
Friendly staff and great service
Dogs welcome in the bar area
Booking recommended as it's a busy place
Honestly blown away with service and food. Chips were lush, im sure they were handcut. All our meals fishnchips/scampi+chips/classic burger meal were amazing. Thankyou Rose Tree for looking after us.
This pub is really nice with a great atmosphere.
You can always get a great pint from here.
The food is nice also.
I would recommend giving the Rose Tree Inn a visit if you are in the area.
Quaint little pub we visited for Sunday dinner. The food was very tasty. Only criticism was it could have been hotter.. Still enjoyed it, though.
Lovely atmosphere and staff made us feel so welcome..my partner thoroughly enjoyed his meal. Good selection on menu and quirkly decor..some of the mobiles took us back!! Lovely family friendly pub with some lovely dog friendly staff and items on the menu!
Had a family Sunday dinner here today and it was OK. I opted for the Mince and Dumplings. Was very disappointed. Dumpling (singular) was rubbery and very small. I think it had been fried in advance and by the time it was served it was not good.
Went on a nice sunny day. Friendly bar staff. Good location. Plenty of outside seating with parasols. Beer was good. Food menu was OK but limited choice e
Warm and welcoming staff in a lovely little pub with a homely feeling. Prices are fair, portions are a nice size and everything served in a timely manner. Cheesecake especially was delicious!
One of the best pubs to have a post walk drink outside in the sun. One of Durham's hidden gems ... Didn't have food, so can't comment (unless you count the Nobby's nuts)
Used this little pub for lunch before a riverside walk into Durham. Good ales, good pub-grub. Attentive staff and pleasant atmosphere. Plenty of parking.
Great food and even better service. Waitress could not do enough for us. Dog friendly with their own menu.
Got a table no problem, the staff were lovely. Food is fresh and good quality. If I could give any advice, I’d say skip the starter and just go for a main because the portions are super generous!
