Massive selection of second hand books in a lovely old building with lots of nooks and crannies, and delicious coffee and cakes to sustain you while you browse.
Literally tens of thousands of books here. If you don't find something you like, then you didn't have time to get through the rooms and rooms of books. If you are after a particular book then ask the owner who can cut down the searching time tremendously. I am told that thousands of the books are available online. Sadly the Cafe has closed.
A lovely quiet cafe is my Review for, the café! that is,... in the 2nd hand bookshop, which I did not browse much of, myself, as was seeking a quiet café for lunch & to work in. Nice quiche and salad lunch and cup of tea at a good price. Very good WiFi once I asked for it to be rebooted. Amiable staff and helpful. Very nice for a quiet (& cool in summer heat) corner... and to quietly work away in too, if need want to do so.
The books located upon the shelves of this packed bookshop are no more expensive than any other second hand book shop that I have encountered. This is a gem of a shop with volumes galore and many hard to find titles residing on it's shelves. I collect military history and especially Divisional Histories I have found that these volumes are very hard to locate but I can always rely on Chapter house books to have at least one on the shelf or if not something of interest in the military history field for me to purchase. I always manage to come away with something to add to my library and once you have browsed and found that little gem of a volume you can then sit down with a coffee from the tea & coffee shop onsite and relax, whiling away a few hours.
The Staff are always friendly and helpful and Clare is extremely knowledgable, its by far the best second hand book shop Ive had the pleasure of visiting and I would highly recommend a visit to this little gem as these quality second hand book shops are fast disappearing. Go visit this shop you will not regret it.
On first ever visit to Sherborne I asked the lady for 2 books I have been searching for, she def not one but I may find the other in what she called the "unusual corner". I didn't find the other book, but came away with 6 books from that corner so not a wasted half hour. If ever back there again I will visit this shop - she even knocked 4 quid off the total price!
Great bookshop for literature and wide range of books. Friendly welcome and relaxed atmosphere. Coffee shop included is an added bonus.
I've been going here for years. It's a friendly atmosphere and very reasonable. My only complaint is no soya milk or g.f. bread but it's a very small business and the g.f. cakes balance this only shortfall out. Friendly staff!
For all book lovers this is a place to browse shelves and piles, I always find jems here that I flick through with a cuppa before purchasing. Soup was delicious too x thanks Chapter House Books.
