Found myself standing outside wondering how on earth I get into the place? Not very clear, found a door and hoped for the best. Very friendly staff and we were welcomed as soon as we walked in. Food was lovely and a good selection of veg. We had the carvery which is plated up rather than you going up to get it and choosing you own. Great selection of puddings and all very appetising. Word to the wise though:- when you pay your bill you will see on there they charge you optional gratuity(tip) @10%, there is nothing optional about it. First thing you know about it is when you check your bill. Would be nice to be told about it.

We are away for the weekend in Castle Cary having a bit of a break from city life and sucking in as much of that lovely fresh air as possible!! 🏞 We were recommended the Alhampton Inn and booked in for lunch earlier today. The pub itself is an absolute beaut, recently expanded during Covid and it’s looking fantastic for it!! The two gents we met running the place were brilliant - friendly, informative and just genuinely good people, they really made you feel welcome! Then the food… absolutely banging!! Everything we had was delicious, with that Haddock Smokey stealing the show - when was a pot of cheesy fish with crumble on top not gonna be amazing!! 😍😍 Our fave things: It’s a toss up between the great service and that banging Smokey!! 🐟

We came to this pub off the cuff. We had all the starters and desserts as we weren't that hungry. All the food was of a very high standard and the staff were lovely and very friendly. We will definitely come back. The Butcombe Ale was exceptional.

Much improved since my last visit 3 years ago. Large covered area at front of pub has created a better atmosphere. 2 good real ales. Worth a visit!

Visited on Friday 11th as a group of four. Very welcoming atmosphere and staff with a nice fire. Good bar service including choice of gins and great condition Butcombe Rare Breed. Starters and mains all looked delicious and we struggled to choose between them. Smoky starter was amazing and others had prawns, scallops and squid, all reportedly delicious. Moroccan lamb main was fabulous, others going for a burger abs the steak and blue cheese. Service was great and slight wait for starters was well managed and understandable for freshly cooked, excellent food. We will return!

Visited on a Tuesday evening. Lovely atmosphere and gorgeous pizzas there by independent pizza stall called The Pizza Rocket, run by Phil Willis. Impressive and delicious 😋

Sunday lunch at the Alhampton Inn. Tender Roast beef with a selection of deliciously cooked vegetables. Roast potatoes, carrots, red cabbage, kale and oven baked creamed leeks with a breadcrumb topping. All this washed down with a pint of Langport Ales. We would certainly recommend. Excellent service too.

Stumbled across this place while attending a local bike rally, made very welcome and all seven of us were well impressed by the food. Highly recommend a visit.

Such a lovely pub, unpretentious and friendly with the best vegetarian Sunday lunch ever! The Yorkshire pudding was totally delicious as was the nut roast; not your usual Paxo stuffing masquerading as not roast but a gorgeous umame filled, pine nut delicious nut roast! Extra gravy and cauliflower cheese, carrots and the greenest fresh greens! Top veggie tucker! We'll be back. 10th October 2021 Went back for Sunday lunch and again The Alhampton did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious. We had the vegetarian option with roast potatoes, greens, red cabbage and honey roast carrots with creamy leek crumble and a wild mushroom and spinach cheesy bake topped with veggie gravy. Bloody gorgeous! The pub had been renovated and the outside space is really wonderful. A very large covered area and tables dotted about the garden too. It is, in my opinion as a vegetarian that usually leaves eateries disappointed, one of the best pubs in the South West. Go and try it. Great staff, warm and friendly, and a beautiful old pub, serving hospitality and great food. Dog and child friendly too. What's not to like!

Lovely pub. Really helpful staff and a full marquee for undercover outdoor seating...so you are sorted whatever the weather. Food is really good too!

A nice place to walk locally, to have a meal and a drink. We had a Sunday lunch and couldn't fault the food at all....really yummy. The pub itself is rather dated and could do with a smypathetic revamp to keep its old pub charm. A visit to loo and I was horrified at how dirty it was...l'm glad I went after eating as it may of put me off to be honest. Which is why I've knocked a star off. I would definitely revisit for the delicious food.
