We went to the Highwayman in to celebrate my dad’s birthday, who is now in his mid 70s, knew that any place that does carvery on a Sunday can be busy so made the call to book a table of 10. The lady who answer the phone was really accommodating, explain it was a large group in before us, so we amended our time accordingly..
When we arrived, the welcome was warm and friendly. They Carney put us in a small room on the top of the stairs, which is perfect as it was incredibly busy as a half an hour wait for food, but it didn’t matter for us because we were taking her time catching up with each other. .
In the day we went was the first day of them starting a delivery service so it’s really really busy. I think it was a little bit annoying. Was them serving up the delivery packages in tinfoil as you are queueing as you could see that that food was going out quicker than those in the pub.
My suggestion would be that they said this app in the kitchen. Not only would it benefit them because of the small space at the front of the customers as they wouldn’t see 6 to 8, please being dished up while waiting for yours.
Another suggestion, which may work or not would be for the meat to be carved up at the back as well and there might be an issue a temperature here and keeping me warm but again when you’re really busy just try to think of a quick and official leave serving people their dinner .
Overall, everybody we dealt with her incredibly friendly. The food was lovely from cauliflower cheese, carrots, red cabbage, Yorkshire puddings potatoes, parsnips peas and not forgetting the meat which was ham beef pork and turkey and chicken I think .
Absolutely loved food here. It tastes hommade! Good old hearty food with a lot of options too.
Very best of traditional English cuisine.
If somebody would ask me I'd call it "on the road gastro pub"
Lovely warm and homely place the foo was first class and worth the value the staff were amazing and very helpful full the drinks were lovely fair price and well worth the visit
Been for a Sunday roast which was lovely, drinks also not over priced, only downside was the steps to the toilets, just not manageable for disabled people
Let's be frank: YOU NEED A CAR TO GET HERE. Getting here was a challenge given the limited options for a fast drive. However, the hotel itself felt like the Ritz compared to my apartment, which is worth every penny if the stay is short. After all, given the job I had accepted, I shouldn't ask for so much if it meant a separate sanitation facility as opposed to a shared on, so that I don't have to worry about losing my key or waiting for someone else to finish using the 🚿 or 🚽.
Qe stopped on the way back to Cornwall for dinner on a Sunday night. We got there and the carvery had finished. However we were served the best roast dinner. It was not only delicious but excellent value for money. The staff and locals were very friendly and would definitely go back
Well what can I say? After booking a while ago and feeling a tad apprehensive after talking to a few people I was very pleasantly surprised! Although it may look a little tired outside the inside couldn’t be more different.
A very, very warm and friendly welcoming, great atmosphere, friendly and very helpful staff.
The food was fantastic, great choice, hot and tasty.
The rooms were very comfortable, clean and we had a fantastic nights sleep. The shower was hot and powerful, tea and coffee and shower supplies too. Nice soft towels too.
What more can you want.
As people that move around the country and stay on many hotels this is now at the top of our ‘ to return to’ list.
Looking forward to it.
Thanks for a superb nights kip!
Comfortable accommodation, friendly helpful staff. Food absolutely brilliant hats off to the Chef, the best steak I've had in a very long while. The highway man Inn is a lovely little place all credit to the owners nothing was too much for them. Would highly recommend would definitely use it again, shame it's too far for us to go back and visit the restaurant as I would love to have tried more of Chef's food
Love the hospitality . The staff were great to Dominic Mark and Myself Pete the Glue
Lovely experience and food at the Highwayman's Inn. Inside is absolutely delightful and utterly fascinating. The atmosphere is great and we made lots of friends for the evening! Food is a little limited but the Steak Pie was delicious.
