We arrived about 11.50am which we knew was a little early. On the door was a note saying that they had staff training and wouldn’t be opening till 12.30pm. On the internet it said 12.00pm and on the signage near the car park it said it opened at 11.30 am. The lady who I think is the landlady let us in after I explained we had a booking for 12.00. She told us the kitchen wouldn’t be open till 12.30 but we could have drinks. This was fine with us but this place is amazing and food was ordered and served well before this time. Great place just sort the signage.

Our 1st visit using a Groupon meal deal. Unfortunately the Salmon wasn't available so we both had Chineese belly pork on vegetables plus rice/chips.

I had a lovely meal of a pub classic steak and chips. The portions are fair in size and decent food quality. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The car parking scenario is a bit wired, give your reg at the bar! otherwise a pleasant time in nice surroundings. I will visit here again.

Hello darlings. This place was marvellous… was having a terrible day with some bad news and came in here to cheer myself up… the manager katie was so helpful and friendly she really flipped my day around… having the chance to talk to her was so lovely …. You don’t get good staff nowadays but let me tell you this place really stands out … thank you Katie was lovely to meet you.

Our second stop on our New Year's Eve afternoon walk up the Porter, returning from Ringinglow, we were pleased to find Moonshine on tap and enjoyed a couple of pints. Back in the days before the industrial revolution, the Hammer and Pincers was a stop on the Sheffield to Hathersage Turnpike, providing not only a place stop and water the horses and drivers alike, but also to an opportunity to tend to wagon repairs and their horses' welfare. The Hammer and Pincers has been a highly popular pub in recent decades, but we guessed it was our mid-afternoon stop, or competition from the many new restaurants and hostelries that made this a quiet visit. We really enjoyed our the Moonshine beer and hope the pub enjoyed a really successful night on New Year's Eve.

I was recommended to visit this pub the next time I was in Sheffield, and I am glad I did come and visit. Whilst the kitchen closed, there was a great selection of drinks to choose from, and James was very knowledgeable about their current guest ales. I stayed about an hour, it was pretty busy during my stay and they have a lovely outside area seating area which I think will come into full use in the warmer months. Very easy to park, just be aware that you need to put you le registration into the tablet next to the bar. There is clear signage however it was nice to be reminded when I first stepped up to the bar. All in all, a lovely experience, and will be a pub that I come back to when I am next in Sheffield, where I hope to try the food and given what I have experienced so far, I don’t think that I will be disappointed. Thanks James & the rest of the team, and have a good summer!
