I was very delighted when I first discovered this wonderful restaurant. The food was good, the atmosphere was nice and it was a genuinely pleasant experience. The service was fast meaning I didn't have to wait long for food. I would reccomend this restaurant for anyone thinking about trying some different good food 👍
What a hidden gem - our first time trying Eritrean food and it was absolutely delicious. The veggie sharing platter was huge and good value, and our server was very friendly.
Visited here with my mum and sister. Not clear what to do when you arrive and service a bit slow but we didn’t mind too much. Server however was lovely. We ordered the Veg Sampler between us. It was huge, and myself and my sister can eat A LOT of food but between the 3 of us we couldn’t finish it. They were happy to provide us with a doggy bag though for the leftovers. Food was lovely and at just under £11 a head to be stuffed is fantastic! Will be returning again.
To correct a different review, we visited 20/01/24 the place has not closed. The large fencing around the area I believe is to do with Market Tavern next door being demolished.
I really enjoyed my visit to this Eritrean restaurant. The veggie mix platter on the injera was fantastic, was not expecting it to be as filling as it ended up being! Would work well for 2 or 3 people looking to share.
Excellent food, generous portions, friendly service, popular with the locals, very good value for money.
Despite what you may think based on its appearance from the road, the food was outstanding in a very relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. I had the lamb Key (awaze) tibs with an injera which was extremely flavorful. I also had an imported eretrian beer on the side.
There were also sharing plates if you wanted to try multiple dishes between 3 or more people.
A must visit Restaurant, off the beaten track but a little gem. The food is fantastic, highly recommend coming here
I came here with my Dad a couple of months back and i have to say it was great, As an Ethiopian I have to say this place had not only given us amazing food but had amazing cultural deco and Ethiopian Music playing in the background. Even though when we were one of the few people there at the time we went, more people usually come in the place in the afternoon and evening. Although the restaurant is not in the best location i do think its a great place to eat Ethiopian food.
The experience of having something a little different deserves a top rating, the hostess was fantastic, too.
Going is highly recommended as the food was delicious, get a variety of stuff to share or a taster dish to get a good sense of variety in flavour. However everything made me feel my pallette usually expects quite dull food. By comparison every dish was bursting with flavour, too many to really do justice in an explanation. Just go and try.
Probably would benefit with being served either with the injura on the side, or extra items to scoop up with. As the injura became really rather sloppy in the centre with most the meal served on it.
Quite possibly more about my palette usually expecting less flavor, more texture, so didn't detract from the enjoyment too much.
Best Ethiopian/Eritrean food I've ever eaten, and I've had my fair share. There's a good representation of this cuisine in Sheffield, but this restaurant stands eminently above the competition.
Don't expect much ambience, however the service is very friendly.
One could easily walk past this place, don't.
It's not in the main part of the city, surrounded with building works, look through the window and see plastic tablecloths, no cutlery ...
... then one must set aside our cultural expectations. This is very typically Ethiopian / Eritrean. Clean and simple.
There are a couple of pictures on the wall that aren't straight, and a beep from the low battery in the smoke detector.
But that is all completely irrelevant. The food is quality and authentic and very much a delightful surprise. Taster plate was truly superb.
We had really lovely food with friendly service too. We do not understand this cuisine but the menu was descriptive. We wish we live closer so we could visit regularly and work through the menu
Brilliantly priced food ordered the Foule (veggie stew) for my lunch and for £6 I got a huge takeaway portion with 4 pittas ! Delicious warm hearty healthy curry/stew just what I needed on a cold November day
Resto was empty hence the 3 stars but it was lunch time on a Wednesday !
An absolute pleasure. Amazing food, cheap prices and lovely waiter. Big portions. Can recommend the vegan sharing dish, was so so good.
We were recommended the place by a friend who studied in Sheffield. The food is truly amazing 😍 and service is quick. Really loved it and prices are surprisingly affordable
Really good interesting and different Ethiopian/Eritrean food.
Don't be put off by the outside or the location of the restaurant.
Food all cooked to order so not a place to go if you are in a hurry.
Great value as well.
Went here 3 months ago. The food was really good. Unfortunately, the place is fenced off now and I believe it's shut down, at least temporarily.
Amazing value! The Beye-ayinetu was a feast of different vegetable dishes presented on a large sourdough pancake (injera) with more injera on the side. At £9 this was phenomenal value - probably enough for two hungry vegetarians/vegans! Really friendly and welcoming.
I've been wanting to visit one of Sheffield's Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurants for a long time, and today was finally the day.
I can't stop smiling. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant and genuinely felt like I could order anything from the menu and enjoy it, but here I I did feel that way. It was a really tough decision to narrow it down, but I ordered the Key Tibs and it was absolutely outstanding.
This place is definitely no frills, but in a clean and cosy way. I felt so relaxed here, not under any pressure, so I could just sit and enjoy a meal with friends. I would 100% recommend this place to anybody. The best restaurant I've been to in years. Do yourself a favour and go.
