Sheffield has an excellent variety of cafés and Homemade 'by Thelma's' is a perfect example. We found exciting fare, challenging the boundaries of the historic 20th century Yorkshire pallet. No pie and mash here, just adventurous and exotic fare... from Morocco, Lebanon and Asia, as well as Mediterranean influences from Italy and Spain. A late lunch on 28-Jan with vegetarian and gluten-free options was a total success. The Moroccan Chick-Pea salad and Lebonese Rice were our reviewer's favourites. Dessert was quite a marvel - we particularly recommend the gluten-free chocolate and pear cake, with chocolate ganache and flaked almonds. The Americano coffee deserves a medal, taken black, it was strong, not at all bitter and had a fresh, clean, aromatic finish. By the way, a special 'thank you' to the couple who, just before we arrived, had beaten us to a table for four, and moved so that everyone could be seated. And before we go, the service was superb, catering for all our special requests. We also noticed the staff handwashing all the dishes... bless them... maybe something about this café is 20th century!

We went on Friday evening for bisto night. The food was lovely I had fried cheese coated in seeds which was absolutely delicious and then the fish which was lovely. We had both coeliacs and veggies in our party and they both had excellent choices. It's bring you own with a small corkage fee. The staff are very helpful and I will definitely be returning.

Pleasant enough. The photo shows croque monsieur (near), and aubergine and hummus both really nice. The salads were a little basic. The tea/ coffee cups huge. The coffee wasn't the best I've, but not bad. the place is one of a plethora of similar cafés that you find around the area. I may well go again. Only criticism, the cakes weren't covered up.... Call me a germ phobe, but there are some filthy people around, and I prefer there to be a perspex cover between them, and anything im going to eat....

Lovely place and great food which for once offers healthy plant based food (none of the overly beige options you may find in other places, or vegan meat based wannabes), but also has a good choice of non plant based dishes for others. The salads vary every week, the place is welcoming and the staff are excellent.

I love it here. Clean, friendly staff and delicious food. Not sure what else you could want? They have a great selection of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian dishes too. Would definitely recommend.

Had the most delicious Reuben sandwich here today and the service was lovely. They squeezed us in even though they were really busy. Recommend booking in advance as I’ve never seen it quiet here. Cakes were amazing too.

Only been for the bistro evenings on a few occasions but really enjoyed it. Cracking value for money. Small menu but good portions. Home cooked honest food, decent ingredients, big on flavour. No bar but you can take your own. Good for small groups. Friendly and informal.

We’ve always loved brunch, lunch or bistro nights here. Recently we booked them to cater for our wedding in Sheffield and they were absolutely fantastic. All the way through we received good advice and friendly, personal service - but most importantly at the end we received gorgeous food. We had so many compliments. Wouldn’t have changed a thing - thank you!

Amazing food! Adventurous salads,, none of your lettuce and tomatoes here! The quiche was to die for, excellent pastry and veggie fillings and the crusted croissant with bacon and halloumi, squash and rocket SO good. Great selection home made cakes too and PROPER coffee
