What a superb find, stopped of here as really fancied proper chips instead of normal service station food and it was excellent. So well cooked, tasty, some of the best chips I can remember having. And they have a sit down area so you can have a meal delivered to your table. Will definitely be stopping here again on way to or from Scotland rather than going to a service area
Do recommend a visit when in the area
Gorgeous chips as was the pea fritter (never had one before) basically it's battered mushy peas đ. We visited on a very cold Dec evening (-4°C) and the hot food was much needed. We would definitely return when in the area
Cracking chippy! Veggie options aplenty - including pea fritters, samosas, halloumi spring rolls and other options beyond usual chippy fare. Everything was delicious and portions are generous for the price (we shared between 3 of us and it was less than ÂŁ30 all in). The great food and clean kitchen is topped off with very friendly service :) All in all, the perfect place to fuel up for a weekend chasing Wainwrights!
Stopped here for a quick bite to eat. Sat in as it was less than a quid dearer than takeaway. Jumbo sausage and chips with gravy washed down with a pot of tea. Food was served quickly, nice atmosphere. The takeaway was busy. Lots of lunch time offers on. Would visit again if passing that area.
Would I eat here again? Definitely.
Excellent chips, Large fish was good - one of the better ones I have had, not at all greasy, batter pretty good, - but on terms of fish not in my top 3 favourite chippies. (though tbh taste is a very individual thing).
Spotlessly clean and tidy inside, nice seating for my short wait (food cooked to order) and also a restaurant area if you wish to eat-in (convenient for Shap), convenient wheelchair accessible access from Main Street (the A6), plenty of on-street parking nearby.
Negatives:
Card only, cash not accepted.
Edit: As I seem unable to reply to Shap Chippy's response...
I didn't mark it down for not taking cash.
I marked it down solely for the fish as I cannot in good conscience rate it as highly as the fish I prefer from elsewhere.
I recommend you check out my other fish and chip shop reviews for comparison, and sample their fayre for comparison too, as while it is subjective and a matter of taste there are indeed differences which may suit some but not others...
The absolute best food I have ever eaten! The service is amazing such warm friendly staff! I wouldnât go anywhere else for my Friday fish and chips! Also everyone needs to try the samosas, the best I have ever tried!! (Makes my mouth water just thinking about them!)
Thanks so much for keeping the family happy every week and for being the best!
It doesnât get any better than this. Jags and the team catered our evening wedding food and theyâre all amazing. Jags was responsive, checked in the day before and just a pleasure to work with.
The food is 10/10 but what sets them apart is they had all the guests laughing and just truly enjoying the experience.
Shap Chippy is the best! Delicious food made even better with amazing service.
Literally the best Chip Shop weâve ever been to! Well worth the 100 mile trip to the village! We were the last order on a Sunday evening and the food quality was amazing! Would seriously recommend!
Decided to skip the motorway and follow the A6 back to Manchester for a change
Spotted this chippy in shap and as it was lunchtime well why not dive in
Had the lunch specialâŠ. Fish chips bread and a drink was really nice
Clean place you can eat in if you want and has a toilet
It appears to be a highly rated chippy and I agree
One of the best fish and chips shops I have tried. The chips amd fish here are delicious. Nice area to eat in or just outside in the sun.
