The Crab was a place that we were told to 'give a miss' but I'm so glad we gave it a go, it was so nice, the staff were interacting with customers, having friendly chat as if we had know them, making us apart of their day, it felt very welcoming, we had a chuckle, they were very helpful, I'm a bad customer, extremely fussy when it comes to my food, for personal reasons, I'm the WORST, (and trust me i am) food critic, if its not right it will go back !!!! but it was fantastic, except the prawns being over cooked, the rest was great, my plate was not swimming in grease, they were attentive and polite, thank you to all the nice staff at The Crab xxx
Lovely meal tonight thoroughly spoiled staff were efficient and kind and the Hunters chicken was yummy, as was the prosecca sorbet.

from the moment we walked in we were made to feel so welcome. From the hot rum punch on arrival followed by fantastic entertainment from James on keyboard - all the songs were brilliant � and you couldn't help but dance !! Georgia was amazing too and joined James with a couple of very special songs x x
The hot buffet went down a treat and was delicious !

Nice green king pub in Shanklin old village. There’s a children’s menu available. Indoor and outdoor seating. You can order at the bar or on the app. Toilets are clean. I went for the fish and chips which was good quality.
Good pub. Fair prices with friendly and helpful staff behind the bar and giving table service. The building is pretty and well maintained. Sitting outside the front gives you a nice view of the street.

When booking I had requested a table not too close to other tables as bringing a dog. They had taken notice of that and our table was ideal. The staff who served us were really nice, polite and efficient. Our meals were very good, nice and hot and good quality. The whole place had a really nice atmosphere. Very good evening, thank you. Only negative and I think this is the same in most restaurants, is £7 for two diet cokes is a bit steep.

This is a lovely pub, serving in our experience, freshly cooked and excellent value food. How on earth could anyone complain about two main meals for £16.50 (14.99 if you choose differently) Both meals very good, and well presented. Thoroughly enjoyed, if a little too much - so very good value for a hearty appetite.
Staff are always friendly and welcoming - even under pressure.
This property desperately needs investment to support the staff who are clearly working so hard, and the visitors who flock to the Old Village expecting a bit more. Come on Greene King!!! You have the staff and the food. Invest some money and make The Crab THE place to visit in Shanklin
Lovely place to visit had a smashing meal and the staff were great 👍. I had the special chicken schnitzel with Lovely sauce my partner had the lamb shank. The desserts were smashing. Been going too the island 2 a year for holidays Was in same restaurant last year and meal and staff were different soo said hayhoo give another go totally different everyone and food was 100% better so will definitely be returning.
Booked a table for Sunday roast, nothing disappointed the service was good and we were informed that food was going to take 30 to40 minutes. Table service and drinks arrived quick, unfortunately the Turkey had just run out but we were offered options and choose the beef which was excellent with lots of fresh vegetables well worth any wait. Everything contributed to a relaxed and happy evening meal. Thank you

A very friendly pub serving good quality food with several gluten free options. Pays to book in advance as they do get very busy. Have been twice during the past week and both times was impressed with their high standards. Loved their lamb shank which can be done gluten free as well.
Please book! Nice place in the centre of town. Always busy but the service was still excellent. Comfy seating. Pub chain so standard meals. Accepted dogs. Roomy seating. We had a good time.

We decided to hop over to the isle of wight on Tuesday .. our final destination was shanklin and I phoned ahead and asked if the crab could accommodate 10 of us for lunch and was told it wouldn't be a problem and they looked forward to seeing us :)
The table for 10 was all laid out and we had a lovely warm welcome.
We were asked about drinks and then after about 10 mins we were asked for our food orders .
Considering it was quite short notice and there were 10 of us we didn't wait very long before our food was served and wow .. everything was beautifully cooked .and served on hot plates .
We had a brilliant time at the crab and it really added to a fantastic day on the island

If your visiting the island you must consider eating at the crab inn. If you are a large group I recommend you phone ahead or book in advance thou :)
My husband and I had our evening meal here 3 times whilst spending a week in Shanklin. Each time, we could not fault either the food or the service. We particularly recommend the halloumi fries starter, and the macaroni cheese main dish. Booking ahead is probably a good idea, as it is a deservedly popular venue.

I had rump steak and chips mushrooms and tomatoes, my husband had fish and chips. Can't recommend this enough. Such a lovely lady served us. Food was so good filling and very tasty steak was cooked perfectly. My husband enjoyed his fish was all fresh and very good quality. 5 stars aren't enough. Definately should eat here
Quaint yet modern. Menu was full of delicious choices and the food did not disappoint! Service was excellent. Many pubs these days serve mediocre food but this is not one! Great value and lovely views. Highly Recommend
