Reviews Rod & Line Pub

This pub is ace. Don't come here if you are from anywhere North of Saltash. The beer is warm the food cold and the bar staff aggressive. The Land Lord is mental and most of the punters smell of cow shit / fish. It is my favourite pub. The finest pint of Tribute on Earth. If you drink lager, go somewhere else, (grow up a bit). If you cannot detect irony, you must be an Emmett, there are plenty of tourist boozers in the local. 😉

Fantastic pub. One of a kind. Great atmosphere, friendly people, superb food. It is like going to a party that never stops... Their live music events are the best in Cornwall (and your table may be removed at any point to make way for dancing!). Mike and Jo run the Rod in their own unique way - and it works brilliantly.

We visited the Rod & Line on a visit to nearby Callington. As we arrived a group of musicians turned up too they promptly started playing the piano & singing this & the fantastic food made our first night in Cornwall fantastic. If you are in the area I would defiantly recommend a visit to this amazing little pub.

Great food and atmosphere. Loved it but you must book in advance as it tiny and doesn’t look anything from the outside but the food and welcome was excellent.

Small, cosy local pub with a selection of superb food and drink. Thatchers or Becks on tap, steak and crab for main, and a honeycomb Pavlova is all you need for a good night out

Wow! This place is highly recommended. From the outside it looks nothing but inside you will find one of the friendliest pubs ever which serves food to die for! Everything is fresh which is proved my the fact that the menu is on a blackboard and as things sell out they get crossed off! There is lots of seafood but they also cater for non seafood lovers and my husband enjoyed a delicious steak. If you want good quality food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere give this place a try and you won't be disappointed.

Called in for an hour this afternoon and loved the atmosphere and feel of this quality Cornish pub. Was told its a Marmite bar, and if that's the case, the bigger the jar the better, and I'll have a double portion!!Amazing menu and great service. Loved it, and will definitely be back soon.

Incredibly friendly staff, amazing seafood and a just brilliant pub. One of the few places I go back too. The crab claws and scallops are cooked perfectly every time and are bursting with flavour.

Brilliant food, fish and chips best I've tasted at a fair price. I've downed the service because I sat waiting at the table for service, in the end I realised that I had to go to the bar to order, once ordered I went and sat down again, the food was delivered to the table then I waited for knives and forks until in the i realised that the locals who knew the ropes got there own from the bar. I know this could be construed as being picky but it was a pain not knowing how it worked. Like I say the food was excellent.

I took my wife and her mum to the pub for a meal the evening before Mother's Day. This was our first visit to this particular pub, and when we arrived, I was a bit worried as the whole pub was watching an England versus Ireland rugby match, and it was both crowded and very loud. Poor old mother-in-law looked she was going to have a seizure. Anyway we made it through the crowd to our table and after a bit the rugby ended and the TV was spirited away - amazing move, and the some music was put on, Fishermans Friends I believe, and the locals sang along. Meanwhile, the food had been ordered and arrived in record time. We had a Sirloin steak for me, an Irish stew for mother-in-law and a creamy mushroom linguine. The food was amazing, one of the best meals I have ever eaten, and similar verdicts came from both the ladies. The singing of sea shanties combined with great food and well-made drinks made the whole evening superb! I was transported back to a time when all pubs were like this, and I probably spent far too long in them. Cannot believe I had such a change of heart from entering to leaving. I will be back for a return visit, as luckily mother-in-law lives just up the road in Saltash.

Good food and drinks at this delightful pub, oozing atmosphere - aided by wonderful Christmas decorations inside and out, sensibly kept in place throughout January. The best fire I've ever seen in a pub, with huge logs. Very friendly staff. Dogs welcomed.

Best lunch in an age! King prawns and a glass of gorgeous wine. Love this place especially in the winter. Prompt and friendly service, good old fashioned pub and a car park too. We'll be back.

The food was lovely and the staff very friendly. A real gem of a place.Very old pub. However it smelt musty inside. Had plastic table cloths and blue wooden chairs. Interior needed a face lift. Would not have stayed if it had not been for the recommendations about the food quality. Loved that we sat with the Queen though.

Always have a fantastic time at the Rod and Line the food is second to none the staff are friendly even though they are usually very busy, the location is ideal just off the A38 with plenty of parking just across the road, they regularly have amazing band's, I really can't say enough about this amazing traditional old pub, and I am just a customer i don't own the place.
