What a gem of a place!! If you are looking for a 'real' pub, look no further! Food absolutely delicious, owners and staff very friendly and welcoming. First time I had ever been to the pub and village and I have driven by the area for years! I would definitely recommend a visit and will definitely go back. We went in the evening but there is a huge beer garden with lots of space for kids to run around and a selection of equipment for them to play on. Also the pub is very dog friendly...with treats for your dog too!

Simply wonderful. Shouldn’t really leave a good review. I don’t want hoards of people turning up, it’ll spoil it for those that have found this place. But this is it. This is that perfect country pub within a great old country building with great staff and food that you thought you couldn’t find in England anymore.

Came here for lunch following a wet and muddy walk with a walking group. We'd been able to pre-book our meals before setting out and they were presented on time and nicely set out. Mine was a beef Madras - which I can heartily recommend. We were accommodated on a table for 7 in the cosy and atmospheric Rod Room. Friendly and helpful staff who checked early on in out Neal that everything was OK - which it was. 😊.

We called in for an evening meal and a pint or two of local ale on Weds 29th March while we were booked overnight into a nearby hotel. We just want to say a huge thankyou to staff and management for the superb food, ale and hospitality. Everyone, including the locals were pleasant and friendly ~ we had a super evening in a very homely, welcoming establishment.

Quite simply the most delightfully warm and hospitable public house in the whole of the south of England, most notable was the service of bartender Harry, who was engaging yet wonderfully servile. Would recommend.

Lovely home cooked food with friendly staff and unpretentious surroundings. As we were enroute to Devon it would have been nice to have the choice of an alcohol free beer. Perhaps sold out? Would definitely revisit. 👍👍

Homely place with great grub. Visited with a group of walkers for Sunday lunch. We pre-ordered our meals as timing was tight for us. The meals were served promptly and were very tasty...just like mum makes! The food was also ample and hot, and served with humour. Great place and lovely people. Not far off the A303 but worth the few mile diversion.

This is a fairly typical village pub. It does good pub food. For example, I have enjoyed excellent fish and chips, a good steak pie, and a variety of freshly made sandwiches. They serve a variety of beers, which are served draught and are well kept. There's a decent garden area outside with picnic table seating. Prices are fair. If you're a passing tourist, take a few minutes to enjoy the village's lovely Grade 1 listed church.

What a lovely friendly village pub, tour welcomed in by a friendly landlord or who ever is behind the bar. I've visited it several times now and it's always the same welcome. Great place and next I am down I'll be popping in!

Freshly cooked pork (which tasted of pork), fresh veggies, and fresh apple sauce for Sunday lunch. I shared the delicious home made apple pie, which left me licking my lips. The Landlord let me drink my own alcohol free beer, didn't charge corkage, and even offered a glass and ice with it. He and his lovely wife -who made all the desserts herself- were even happy for us to leave our car in the carpark for a couple of hours after dinner ! A wonderful historic pub, great food, and a great reception. Five star all round !

Great food, warm welcome and some decent beers to boot! Perfect for a lunch time pit stop or an evening meal when the wood burner is firing in the winter. Recommended.

A lovely little pub serving great home cooked food, a good menu with specials as well. My only gripe is that some non alcoholic beverages apart from Pepsi and juices would be nice.

An oasis in an area not renowned for its great hostelries - Amesbury is a desert from the food standpoint. We travelled ten minutes south and thank goodness we did - fantastic steak, warm welcome and a great pint. All one could ask on a chilly day in Wiltshire.

We had lunch at the Black Horse and it was very good. We only had a sandwich and chips, but it was fresh produce and the owners are friendly and inviting.
