This was a great place for food and drink, reasonably priced. I came here for an evening meal with my boyfriend. We had a three course meal and drinks. Each course was delicious, including fried squid, scallops, steak. Quick service, and a very attentive waiter, Antonello, who was amazing. We will definitely come again. Can't recommend it highly enough! Give stars!

A most enjoyable experience. Good menu for a Sunday and not just for a roast, my wife had a tremendous pie (top marks for the pastry). The staff were great, coping easily with my father through to my niece, not an easy combo! We felt special amidst the busyness of many others enjoying their Sunday lunch. Well worth it.

Visited last night after a good recommendation and have to say myself and my wife were not disappointed. The service was absolutely amazing couldn’t fault it. The food is fantastic, we started with the squid and prawns, we’ve had calamari in Spain and this is so much better the squid melts in your mouth. I started with pigs head crocket and my wife had the scallops both well cooked and very tasty. For mains we both had the cod loin with watercress mash again cooked to perfection. Couldn’t find room for a pud as the portions are generous, but I managed to squeeze in the cheese and biscuits. All in all a very good restaurant and if in Manchester is a must

What a gorgeous place this is. A top notch Sunday Roast in a stunning setting with five star service by a team of true professionals. The roast choices include vegan and veg options. The beef was divine and the sides were generous and delicious. Try the artisinal bread with garlic chili and tomato butter. Has a lovely outdoor garden as well. Quick walk from Piccadilly too. This is a must if you're a Sunday Roast fan. Or even if you're not as it has a broad selection of other dishes.

Delicious Sunday roast. Two courses for £30. We only spent more as we stayed for hours and had lots of wine/a cocktail to finish! When our table time ran out inside we were politely moved to an equally lovely table outside under a cover with heaters with blankets. An absolutely perfect afternoon. Will definitely be back!

Starter of pigs head croquettes was lovely. Sunday roast chicken with all the trimmings, and the pie with the roast trimmings was also so good. Too much food we struggled and finished it. The root veg was a little overdone, but I didn't mind. The cabbage was unique, and I loved it. Gravy was super. Chicken was so succulent, and the skin was perfectly crispy and a little salty, but I understand why since the meat was a little bland, it made perfect sense. Mash was a smash hit, and roast potato was lovely. Cauliflower cheese was the bomb! Summer cocktails were yum! The dessert was a disappointment. The peach tarte tatin was bitter with the burn sugar, and the pastry felt like it was more a pie crust than a dessert tart pastry. The vegan ice cream didn't do it much good anyway. I tried to eat half and couldn't eat a bite of it.

Couldn’t have asked for a better roast dinner! The food, wine and service was amazing, our waitress Nicole, really looked after us! Highly recommend.

Visited The Black Friar for the first time last weekend for my mums Birthday and was curious about their in-house made pies! The pie of the day was chicken, leek and truffle…what a combo! These pies are on the smallish side but packed full of flavour and delicious pastry. They come with a side of fluffy mash potato and greens with a tasty gravy. The dish was £19 on the a la carté menu for Saturday but midweek these pies are £18 from their “Pub grub” menu. For dessert we had the espresso and chocolate bomb which was a bit underwhelming for £10 and needed a bit more coffee flavour for a coffee dessert…it’s got a bit of “theatre” but it’s just a hollow chocolate sphere that melts…I’d probably skip this item in future. Overall the service was attentive and speedy. A nice place to visit mid week or for Sunday dinner as their Sunday roast offering looks amazing.

One of the best restaurant experience in Manchester! We went to this restaurant to celebrate my partner's birthday and what a treat! For starters we ordered the pigs head croquet and the seitan canneloni which were a delight. For mains, we decided to go for the lamb and duck. The balance of flavours and textures makes the difference on these dishes and the quality of the meat was remarkable. If i would have to mention something to improve is hjat the caneloni could do with a little bit less of oil. About the service, it was 10/10. Amy was our waitress for the evening and she was very kind and really took care of us paying attention to the dishes timings, wine, etc. we even got a little birthday treat! No doubt we will be coming back!

This is a beautiful pub with a ton of history. Has the same food/drink as the rest of the Michelson Pubs but it's still a cozy great spot for some beers and food.
