Went with a group of friends for a surprise birthday meal and chose Cromptons because it was convenient. We were really impressed; lovely atmosphere, very good service by the two staff serving us who were both very polite and friendly and the food was delicious. The halloumi chips worked well as starters and my panko chicken burger was very tasty....as were the profiteroles. The price for four was £115, which for what we had and the quality of the food was really good value for money.

Dined here on Sunday , fabulous as always reasonably priced delicious food , attentive and friendly staff , renovations will be outstanding to enjoy a meal/ drinks by the waterside
Great place with high quality food. Great selection on the menu and satisfaction guaranteed. Lovely surroundings next to the canal, never disappoints.
Summer Days. Crompton's at The Waterside Bar & Restaurant. Spent a day in summer 2011 sat outside in the garden which overlooked the Bridgewater Canal. Lunch food was excellent. Hot, tasty and lots of it. It was a sun trap outside and with a bottle of wine and good company. What a great day! It was made even more enjoyable because of the friendly staff.
Lunch Menu. Took my elderly father, sister and daughter for lunch on a weekday. The menu was not very extensive however what actually arrived was gorgeous. Toasted sandwiches were enormous on what looked like home made bread. Lovely crisp fresh side salad and the best chips I have tastedn anywhere! Fat, crunchy on outside with plenty of soft potato on the inside. Dad had a black pudding stack and loved every delicious layer. Everything was tasty, well presented and there was plenty of it. A firm favourite venue from now on.
We booked at the Waterside for Easter Sunday lunch and I can emphatically confirm that it did not disappoint. Out of the six of us in our parties (across three generations) four had the Sunday Roast, one had fish and chips and I had the Vegetarian Sunday Roast - which was a beautiful Goats Cheese Veg Roast. The food was sublime. Perfectly cooked, made with delicious fresh ingredients. We did not have dessert because we were so full after our main meal! A great selection of drinks were available.
The polite, professional staff were attentive and efficient. The decor and ambience created a lovely relaxing vibe and it's location by the canal is just lovely. (Ample parking for those who drive.)
I highly recommend the Waterside for a meal any time of the day. Best in Monton! We are now planning on booking for Christmas dinner.
A solid 4 stars. A meal for a party of 11 on a busy Easter Sunday was cared for efficiently, professionally and politely. The food was top drawer, all meals arriving within a few seconds of each other.
And a special 5-star mention for Tony on keyboards. A lovely guy who took all requests happily and knew them all !
We recently dinned at The Waterside for the first time; all 4 of us opted for different starters and mains and the food was 10/10. Setting great and all the staff were very attentive. The cocktails are great - their Espresso Martini is by far the best one i've tasted! The Quality of the food is great too. We will definitely be visiting again.
Yesterday was my son’s 18th. We had a big table for 20. Their staff were amazing. All the food was beautiful came out piping hot really fresh and we all got our meals at the same time which I found very impressive with there being so many of us. It was clean, pretty and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Thankyou for making my sons 18th a lovely memorable experience. Everyone in the family said they can’t wait to come again.
A very enjoyable experience on Friday evening. The waiter took no notes for four of us with two courses each and we were all served with exactly what we ordered. The food was outstanding and very well presented. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the music was unobtrusive.
Lovely venue. Delicious food. Friendly and accommodating staff. Decent prices. We went on a rainy Tuesday evening in January but it looked like it would be glorious on a nice summer day!
Fantastic pub, it really does have the lot. Great food, service and position. They have the sun all day so in the summer it’s perfect, it’s got the best Sunday Roast and the Salt and Pepper Chicken is fantastic.
Staff are bang on as well
‘Afternoon Tea’ was great value for money at £25 per head
Lots of sandwiches, cakes and savouries.
Beautifully presented on stands.
Staff were lovely and extremely attentive.
We were all very impressed (9 people on the booking)
However, we was surprised to find that our food did not come with tea or coffee !!
We had to purchase these separately.
This is the first time I’ve had afternoon tea anywhere and not received a hot beverage as part of the experience.
We all found this a bit odd as surely the clue is in the title …… Afternoon Tea 🫖!!
Really don't know where to start, so I booked a table for my 7 year old grandson and his best friend, who couldn't make his birthday party the week before. I wanted it to be special for them and all i can say is it couldn't have been made any more special, these 2 boys were treated like royalty, there own little table, with mocktails served and the waitress, Courtney even took the there order of them, they felt so grown up. Sadly the sparklers i took in for their desert wouldn't light, but STOP... Mike the manager was dertimined that they would 😂 and he did. So all that's left to say is a massive thanks to Mike, James and Courtney for making such a little thing so special. I wish I could mention everyone, so all that's left is once again, Thanks to all at the waterside, you never fail to deliver outstanding service, great food and excellent hospitality. Nothing is to much. See you again soon
Enjoyed the tasting menu and wine pairing. Fantastic value for money, couldn’t fault anything highly recommend
Absolutely fantastic Sunday dinner. Lovely, scrumptious, plenty of it, massive Yorkshire puddings!!!! Get me there every Sunday xx
Came for a Sunday Roast and it was amazing. Got the Trio of meats Sirloin Beef, Honey Roasted Gammon and Turkey, with crispy roast potatoes and a medley of vegetables and jug of gravy, oh and not forgetting the huge Yorkshire pudding. 10/10 . All for £15.95, can't complain about that in a cost of living crisis. It certainly filled me up. It was a busy location by the canalside, lots of walkers stopping off for a drink, very dog friendly. Very prompt service for the waiting on staff. Next time will try out their rooms to stay in, as they look amazing. Definitely a place to visit. Will be back.
Excellent food, service and vibe.
Myself and my partner have moved fairly local to The Waterside, and have now been on multiple occasions, whether it be for food drink or both. The staff are lovely, there is a good selection of drinks and the food is excellent.
It has quickly become a go to place for us and this review is currently being written sat outside the place!
Would recommend this place to anyone looking for good atmosphere, food and drinks. Will be coming again for sure.
Went for a girls night out to celebrate a birthday.
Service was good, cocktails were nice. The food was really nice. The price was good.
There was live music on, right near our table, I was expecting it to be over powering, but it was actually really good.
Would definitely go again.
