Mandy Dineley - My Beautiful Pen

We walked from Salcombe Town to The Winking Prawn. It’s a gorgeous walk.
We have been there before but not since lockdown, so it was lovely to be back.
I had a delicious crab sandwich and chips, my husband and I sat outside, under an umbrella, as it was warm, but drizzly.
Staff were lovely and friendly.
A simply gorgeous spot, rain or shine.
We will be back.
On a recommendation we walked 15 minutes out to this lovely establishment having arrived in Salcombe via the foot ferry. The walk itself is very scenic and enjoyable.
A beach-side restaurant that I would describe as rustic but clean and fresh. Lovely helpful staff. Seafood was beautiful.
Would thoroughly recommend it as a lunchtime venue
Amazing location, excellent food and great service. The staff were so helpful, and assisted me with finding an accessible table very easily, so friendly and attentive - they were thoroughly cleaning tables constantly for a very popular restaurant with lots of walk ins. There is a thick layer of gravel so some wheelchairs my struggle but there is also accessible inside seating. The car park also offers an extra hour of parking free for blue badge holders!
Enjoyed eating here. Great idea with the bbq grille menu, great sized portions, came with large mixed salad and potato's and bread. Nice to eat sitting Al fresco in the sun, but also undercover seating available.
Came off the beach and opted for here rather than another venue in town. Had a 5 min wait as it was so busy, but not an issue.
Seated overlooking the sea, food order via QR code/online (I'm not the biggest fan as at alienates some, but it does work well)
Two crab sandwiches arrived much sooner than I expected, crammed full of crab, tomato, and cucumber (there's an option when ordering to hold various bits); drinks arrived a few minutes later.
All in all a good lunch, reasonably expensive but I expected that for the location, and certainly no dearer than in town overlooking the harbour.
Definitely worth a visit.
Ate here in May - WOW! The food is amazing and the staff are too! Just a complete gem of a restaurant in a lovely place. I had the whole dressed crab and I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish it but I did! Back down next week and we will be eating here again then. Thoroughly recommend 😃
Delicious sandwiches, salads and fresh seafood at a reasonable price, fantastic for lunch. Friendly service.
Loved the use of sandcastle buckets to have all the condiments and cutlery in. Tasty "Prawn Juice" beer. I had the popcorn shrimp with sweet chilli sauce baguette and it was great!
Would highly recommend and will come back next time we are in the area!
My wife and I had lunch at the winking prawn yesterday. The setting is wonderful, and the staff were very attentive. The online ordering was a bit of a faff, but once it was all done, the food came promptly and was absolutely delicious as well as a good size too. I had a steak baguette with peppercorn sauce, which I heartily recommend. My wife had a delicious goats cheese salad. Awesome job guys keep up the good work 👍
It’s wonderful to be back dining out at the Winking Prawn yet again. The cleanliness is first rate and the delicious smells that emerge are addictive.
Visited this beautiful place for breakfast on Sunday. The location, interior and exterior were all great. We both has flat white along with lemon drizzle which was delicious. I will definitely come back to this place.
Free Wi-Fi is very essential in this location as there was no signals to our phones to even pay for the parking online because parking machine was only accepting coins.
We came to the winking prawn last week Saturday after travelling for 5 hours to get to Devon. There were 9 of us including 7 kids. We came for breakfast. It's a beautiful place, setting and we sat outside. We were told that we were the last to order breakfast so we got up and got our food after our eggs made to order came. The section was perfect, food was very tasty, very reasonably priced and the service was absolutely brilliant.
We were served by a few people but we only caught a lady by the name of Jenny, she was brilliant and we chatted with her for a while. Thanks Jenny for your help. After we left we realised that one of the people who was very hospitable to us was the owner. Thank you for everything and to anyone reading this please do go and support this place. Definitely recommend and will be visiting again when we come in October.
We stumbled upon this place while traveling and it was delicious. I had the duck wrap and fries with a latte and it was so good, my family also enjoyed their food. We sat out looking across the bay, it was great. The only downside for us I'd say was their seemed to be a lot of staff about yet we could only order through the qr code on the menu, which was fine for covid, but their was plenty of staff available to take an order, and I prefer to speak to a human and a more personable approach, but that is the only thing I could fault for me, although others may prefer this way.
Great spot for lunch. Right on the beach, quick service and delicious, fresh food.
Seized upon the late summer's sun and the freedom afforded by reduced tourist related shenanigans and returned to this little gem in salcombe. Whilst it's not my first visit, it was the dog's and I'm pretty certain she enjoyed both the morsels of cheese and bacon which miraculously fell off the table. The staff are friendly and whilst the ordering is done via your phone, the staff seemed attentive and engaging in what is a pretty busy location. Great easy food and good portions, served quickly and consumed whilst sitting in the Sun .... watching punters struggling with raising the parasols....What not to like.?
Great friendly service, nice food & a lovely setting right opposite the beach. Dog friendly too.
This is a bit of a gem in Salcombe. It was a haven to get out of the cold wind and warm up with a hot drink and lunch. £8 - £10 for a baguette - it was delicious however I would have expected some fries or crisps on the side for that money. Kids lunches were basic sandwich for £3. Would come again for sure to try the 'po boy' style sandwich. Limited parking so bare in mind in busy seasons.
