Probably one of the most welcoming and friendly pubs I’ve been to for a long while. We had 3 adults, 3 children and a baby eating here. The children had the kids breakfast and the fish fingers and chips. I had the homemade lasagne (generous potions of garlic bread!) and the other two adults had the full English. Clean plates all round!
They’ve got a high chair for little ones and while there’s no baby change, if you ask behind the bar, they’ve got a changing mat you can use.
Good, solid food, and lovely staff. A really decent experience and meal.
Making the very best of a terrible situation in Rye town. The water for the entire town was off so the lovely landlady could only offer us a limited menu based on what they could do. We gladly scoffed a ploughman's down and a free sausage for our puppy and left happy. Lots of places in Rye just closed but these guys did the absolute best they could with what they had. Lovely place and people.
What a fantastic bar crew. We were made to feel very welcome. The food was excellent apart from the hash brown which was soft not crispy but did not stop me eating them. Neat cup of tea I have had in an age. But the experience was made better by the 2 ladies serving. They laughed and joked around with the customers. If I lived here this would be my local.
I had a beer in here yesterday. It's within eyesight of Rye station and various bus stops. It's a Shep's house. Very nice beer looove warm fire in the harth... Would go back.
We always make sure we go to this pub when we are on holiday in the area. We had homemade lasagna 1 with chips and the other with garlic bread and a kids burger in a bun with chips our son. Our 4 year old son couldn't eat all of his burger and chips, so they put it in a takeaway box for us to take home, they also gave him a free apple juice and some sweets. Staff a very friendly and pleasant. Fully recommend.

Not too much to say about this friendly community pub other than that it's a solid option for unadventurous beer drinkers, just a 2 minute walk from Rye station. Some cask ales, several lagers on offer, traditional pub grub, and a two-bench outside seating are to the front/side. Friendly staff, this is a place to linger over a number of pints. Prices are as expected in the area (the popular model medieval of Rye). Named "Cinque Ports" after the street it's on, which in turn alludes to Rye's former historical significance as one of the "five important ports" in the area. Craft beer drinkers should opt for the nearby "Waterworks" micro pub instead.
Great food, great service. This is a great pub and we will use next time we are in Rye.
Absolutely 5* pub food and service. Everyone very friendly prices affordable for everyone. And if you need baby change may they got it in a plastic bag which is definitely much cleaner then those on the wall. Highly recommended
What a great welcome… we met all the staff and they were great … went in just for breakfast and stayed all day then returned the following day for a roast dinner … could not fault it .. friendly , great atmosphere, great banter , great food .. and spotlessly clean … thanks and see you soon Arthur n Dave ..
