Second time I've stopped in the cafe here recently on my cycles around Derbyshire. A lovely vegetarian cafe. Enjoyed the nut and mushroom pate for lunch today. Previously enjoyed one of the fruit scones. Well worth a visit...

Visited many times since it changed hands and had a revamp! Still a great rustic style cafe where you can now sit at high bar stools and overlook the river and watch the sheep! Coffee is excellent as is the toasted tea cakes and homemade soup and cheese scones. The cakes always look wonderful! What a gem of a place… keep doing what you are doing 👍

Cafe changed hands. Great coffee and cake. Nice staff. Lovely setting as it always has been. Dog friendly area (not inside I assume) but can sit out with food or chill by the river. 4* as the hype about being vegan is potentially very off-putting, better to just say "vegan options available" rather than Vegan cafe, especially considering you're surrounded by sheep and cattle.

Lovely setting, interesting heritage, quality crafts and friendly, talented craftspeople to chat with. Cafe is outstanding. Great veggie food (am no longer veggie, didn't even notice lack of meat first time I went!). Great cakes. Good value. Friendly, efficient service. Clean and relaxed. Recommended.

This fabulous coffee shop has been here forever and has always been a go to place for me to bring vegetarian friends or anybody that likes delicious wholesome home cooked food. The homity pie is always my number one choice but the salads here are so delicious and colourful too. Nobody could ever say that salads are boring here. The cafe is really cosy and welcoming with wonderful views over the fields and river, with all the big windows and the layout of the tables it always makes me think it's a train carriage which it isn't but that's what it reminds me of. The coffee is really smooth and they also have a nice selection of teas too. The cakes always look amazing but honestly I have yet to try them as I'm always too full. The lady who took our order was super helpful as one of my guests has a few allergies and she double checked everything and was more than helpful to change things to make it safe for him to eat. It's always busy here but worth the wait.

This place is worth a visit for the vegetarian café alone. Super-tasty food in very generous portions at reasonable prices, and with a great view of green fields and hills. It's just off the A6 in Rowsley. The gift shop isn't as good as it used to be but it still has an excellent array of birthday cards. There's a smithy and a few artisan craft shops selling jewellery, stained glass and art prints. There's also a shop selling different varieties of flour milled on site. The mill itself is normally open for you to look round (for free) and there are also some interesting looking geese and ducks bobbing around on the water. Various paths lead round the building so you can see the water wheel turning, but just make sure you keep hold of small children near the water as it's deep.

Superb. Delicious cafe food and excellent choice in gift shop. Staff and attitude to service are exceptional. We had problem of small mark in book we had bought as a gift - gift shop reordered another and posted it to us in Huddersfield. Thanks. 100% recommend.
