Expensive but worth it. Went here for someone's birthday and loved it, will be back. Has a nice vibe and I like how it's decorated. Staff were all lovely, polite and not impatient when we couldn't decide what to order. Turned up early but we're happy to let us in straight away.
Just visited tonight for my daughters birthday. Have to admit I'm not a fan of smoke houses generally. Smoke barbecue for example I think is overpriced average food.
But I have to say the food here is very good, the portion sizes are huge, and I think very fairly priced for what you get.
I have seen other reviews saying its expensive, but I really don't think it is.
There is also a good selection of meals something else I think other smoke houses fail on.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming and it felt like nothing was too much trouble.
A great dining experience with good food and good prices.
Where do I start…I’ve seen The Big Smoke on Facebook and said to my wife a while ago I really wanted to try it…so she booked for my birthday yesterday…..I was not disappointed. From the service to the food a complete 5* experience. The portions are HUGE so make sure you are hungry. We had a variety of starters Frickles, Halloumi Fries, Chicken wings in Buffalo sauce (honestly the nicest we have ever had!!), Ribs in Buffalo sauce (a nice added touch from the chef), and for mains we had a 10oz rump steak (cooked to perfection), Italian Stalion Burger meal and the Numero Uno sharing platter - honestly the biggest meal I’ve ever seen! Cannot thank you enough, superb!!!!
Amazing place for steak lovers and the other food is fantastic too! Very quick service, great atmosphere and staff, the tomahawk steak finished me lol. Well worth a visit.
I'd say everyone should try this place at least once. For me the food was delicious but I think I expected something... More. Unsure in what way but the food was still good, no complaints from our table of 3, onion rings are a laugh to order (I thought they'd brought me Yorkshire puddings). Our table had 2 Yorkshire sarnies and a notorious P.I.G. and we all agreed they were good.
Service was perfect, lovely friendly staff, very professional. Wait was a bit longer than I'd like, maybe 40 minutes.
Dessert was good, considering the atmosphere the presentation was a little out of place to me, like a high end restaurant with a long chocolate wave over the plate which was a too big for the dessert. It did taste good though
Tonight was our first ever visit and my word was it a memorable one. Fantastic and friendly service especially as we came with our two young children. Nothing was too much trouble.
The food was outstanding. The homemade cheese sauce is to die for. All I can say is make sure you are hungry when you visit because the portion sizes are immense. Stunning food. you also get 10% off with a blue light or NHS card so even better value.
Three of us came for late lunch for my partners birthday today. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and requested to sit outside, which was obliged. We were shown where the toilets were on the way in which is always useful when attending somewhere for the first time. We had starters and mains (see photos attached) including Nachos, Chicken Thighs and Hot Link Sausages followed by 2 Beauty & The Beef Burgers and The Big Grill. Staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and very good quality (and value for money). The Nachos were really nice and really similar to the ones you get from The Cheesecake Factory. The meat was tender and succulent and the bread in the burger was soft and fresh. It had a relaxing atmosphere and was nice to sit in the sun with a beer/ cider. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. When the mains came we hadn’t been given any cutlery from the starters (which wasn’t an issue for us, we just asked for some) but the staff were apologetic and said they should have noticed. Really nice lunch, would definitely return. We all left feeling so full.
Big Smoke? Biiiig food!!!
This is an absolute meat eater’s heaven! When a mate mentioned this “steakhouse” he had discovered whilst working in Rotherham, we decided to go and check it out one night to see if the place was up to scratch.
A little tricky to find if you don’t know your way around Rotherham town, Big Smoke is located in what looks to be a former pub just outside the town centre. Parking is limited on site, and being in Rotherham it’s on an incline, so be warned! After climbing up the steps to the front door, you immediately dogleg into the main reception area, with a long bar to one side and a bank of meat fridges to the other.
The menu is pretty extensive when you consider it’s all meat based, which was an absolute delight to us! Not knowing exactly what to expect, we picked some starters and mains, and were convinced to add some sides too. How naive we ended up being!!! The portions at Big Smoke are ginormous!!!
To say we got the “meat sweats” would be a total understatement, as this place totally outdid us! If you even think about having a light snack before attempting to dine here, think again! This would more accurately be described as a meat feasting venue. Great food, good atmosphere, and friendly staff.
Enjoyed our date night, top quality steaks as always, rare how we liked it! They asked while taking our order, also let us know what sauces available. Just look, food at its finest! 🤤🤤 The big smoke sharer starter and The meat treat share main, also upgraded fries to loaded.
The staff was lovely, polite and created an amazing atmosphere. Would deffo recommend people!! 👌 10/10 top quality. Our favourite place, even worth the 40 mins travel to get there 😀.
Food tasted really nice. Very well presented. We had chicken for a Sunday lunch option but the chicken looked like various off cuts of leg stuck together. Probably very cheap. Sadly. Service was absolutely appalling. We had to intercept someone and ask for everything we needed, e.g. more drinks, dessert menu, dessert to order, the bill, etc. No one checked on us at any point to see how we were. Was in there for 2.5 hours for 2 courses. I don't think we'll be going back any time soon. Sadly. We were really looking forward to trying this place as the food sounded amazing, from reading the menu online. The service was a major let down. We had higher expectations with the high prices.
We had Sunday roasts on a 2 for £20, the price was right but our first impression of the service was poor as they messed up which meats we had ordered and put both Gammon and Beef Brisket on the same plate. When we ordered them separately, we didn't even realise that having both was an option.
The beef was gorgeous but feedback from those who had the Gammon was that it was too salty and hard to finish the amount served. The rest of the plate was passable but not excellent and if as they describe on their Instagram this is the "best Sunday Roast in Rotherham" I fear the worst for Rotherham.
Outstanding food set in a modern spacious restaurant with food to die for.
Be prepared for mountains of beautiful food cooked to perfection.
The portions are huge so choose carefully. Glad we were offered boxes to bring home uneaten meat for another meal.
We will certainly be returning both for the quality of food and the staff who made it a memorable experience. Highly recommended for true meat lovers 👌
Booked in advance, would recommend doing this as it was busy. Seated and food/drink order was taken swiftly. Tables were spaced out reasonably well and didn't feel cramped. Bourbon ribs and fillet steak was ordered. There is a choice of which chips accompany the meals. The ribs are advertised with skin on fat chips so stuck with it, as with the fillet. The wait time for the food was as expected.
The ribs were tasty but far too fatty for me and the skin on fat chips were big, more like wedges and big wedges at that. (to be fair and honest, I am a bit of a fussy eater and I'm sure plenty of people like some fat on the ribs and huge chips) The staff were friendly and the establishment was clean and tidy. There was a pleasant outdoor seating area to the rear.
There is on site car parking with extra spaces behind the restaurant. Prices appear to be similar to other restaurants of that nature.
Came here today for my other hals birthday, just the two of us.
He said his food was 10/10 the best he has had in a while. Beautifully prepared, full of flavor and worth every penny.
I ordered my food and due to a bit of a weird eating disorder, I couldn't eat my food through absolutely no fault of the restaurant.
The owner or manager (?) Came up to our table to see if everything was okay, as I had told another waitress it was great, but I still hadn't eaten anything other than the chips. I explained everything and she was so warm and understanding, and let me take it home in a to-go box to eat it when I was ready ❤️ this is the most attentive, hospitable, kind, and understanding restaurant I have ever been to (admittedly I don't go to many) - but I will definitely be back to try again ❤️
Been wanting to try here for absolutely ages... visited last night after booking online yesterday afternoon and we certainly wasn't disappointed!!
We had the meat treat to share between us and it was absolutely delicious & huge!!
We then shared a Twirl cheesecake for pudding which was also delicious!!
We will definitely be returning as theres so many things on the menu we want to try!!
All staff was very friendly and attentive!
Can't wait to come back!!
Was passing through and thankfully this place came up as a great place to enjoy a Sunday roast. We didn’t book but were kindly accommodated for. The staff bent over backwards to make us happy! The roast was one of the best I had during my 1 month stay in the UK. 2 for 20 pounds was an absolute bargain! If you are in town and need a roast dinner then this is the place to be, but do book before arriving.
