The Northumberland Gazette describes this place as a "little hidden gem" and it's entirely accurate. The food was delicious and the owners are very welcoming and friendly. What makes this place so unique is how dog friendly it is; they even have a dog agility play area. Loved our visit and would definitely recommend it.
We stayed in the nearby village of Rock for a week. My wife had seen a sign to the Rocking Horse Cafe on our way into Rock, but it wasn't until the day we were leaving for home that she suggested we visit for breakfast.
Arriving just after the cafe opened at 10am, we were warmly greeted by Andrew, the owner. We'd originally intended to have a quick breakfast, and then head home, but we enjoyed our breakfast and chat with Andrew so much that it was over an hour and a half before we left. Contrary to the views of the '1 star' raters (whose ratings I too would urge you to ignore completely, given that almost all of them were very tellingly left within 24hrs of each other), my wife and I found Andrew to be warm, charming and great company, with equally impressive coffee-making skills. Being a photographer, I was also hugely impressed with Richard Dunwoody's photos, which are on display in the gallery, so much so that I bought two!
The Rocking Horse Cafe & Gallery is certainly off the beaten track, but, if you are anywhere near the vicinity, I strongly urge you to visit. It's a hidden gem, and we're gutted we only found it on our last day. We will be back!
Amazing service from Sam and delicious bacon & sausage sandwiches! Would definitely recommend to anyone passing- the garden views are to die for!
Had our first but definitely not our last visit to this wonderful hidden gem of a cafe! Our labradoodle riley love the freedom of the secure garden and the agility course! Tip top spot with fabulous coffee (super good froth!)... Highly recommend and all the Pickeringās will be back, if you can put up with the constant chatter!
Popped in to this lovely cafe as working very close by ,traveling down from scottish borders, the friendly staff Russled me up a bacon, egg and sausage Stottie to take away, which I highly recommend , and the coffee was brilliant too, thumbs up from me
Wow what a great place , lovely atmosphere v v friendly staff and super dog friendly too - what a find ! Loved the ambience in the cafe with the woodburner roaring nicely, fab garden with gorgeous views over open farmland - can't wait to do the garden on a sunny day ! But it's not just a cafe, there are lots of interesting little quirky corners offering stunning photography and art to browse or buy plus luscious local produce and small gifts to buy while relishing the fabulous food and scrumptious coffees. I understand antiques are also coming soon...We will be back !!
Fantastic little place, scones were delicious, the scenery was beautiful.
The owner was very friendly, (including the dogs) if your ever in the area well worth a visit, I will be going back.ļæ½ļæ½
In short, just fantastic.
This place is an absolute gem. Wonderful food, incredible coffee (also available to purchase to take home, alongside a small treasure trove of other locally produced wonders). Couldnāt have felt more welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. We are as a family of 6 with young children and our dog, and our every need was catered to, with a fantastic touch of a dog agility course that the children and Maggie loved (adults too!). Genuinely wonderful in every way. I implore you to visit if anywhere near the area.
First visit today but will not be the last. Friendly welcome from owner, staff and Sam the Collie. Will be telling friends all about this little gem of a place and as we live not far away, will be able to visit whenever we feel like it.
Just had a lovely lunch in front of a cosy fire on a very cold day. Would recommend the lemon drizzle cake. Some interesting photographic prints for sale, worth a browse. The gentleman serving was a joy to talk to and we LOVED Sam the dog.
The Rocking Horse Cafe is a lovely, friendly, welcoming āhome-from-homeā watering hole.
The garden with country views has swing-seats, childrenās diggers and a brand-new agility course for dogs!
Former championship jockey Richard Dunwoody is a great friend of the Cafe. Stunning, signed, mounted photos of his foreign travels are on sale, as are his books.
The newly opened antiques gallery is beautifully arranged in rooms where everything is for sale, including some locally- made soft furnishings.
It is well worth a visit.
Lovely cafe we came across on way back to cottage from Alnwick. Scones were fantastic - so too was the display of local produce. We bought locally made piccalilli and ginger wine. I can thoroughly recommend it. Didnāt get to meet Sam the dog though!
Lovely place to stop for lunch, delicious cake or just a drink...not to mention the stunning views, friendly staff and the dogs.. Will definitely be making a return visit.
Visited the cafƩ today. A lovely atmosphere in a great location. The food was excellent and it is a very dog friendly place and they were extremely welcoming. Will definitely be visiting again when we return here on holiday.
Fantastic place to visit, warm welcome provided by the roaring fire along with Andrew and Julie. We enjoyed wonderful coffee and scones whilst viewing the fabulous photo collection by Richard Dunwoody. Well worth seeking out this little gem.
Excellent place to visit for high quality, freshly prepared food. Good parking and access. Eating areas spread across a number of nicely laid out rooms including a sun room overlooking a pleasant garden area. Manager (and staff) were so nice and hospitable, and the manager also has good dog training tips if you ask him š. Overall, lovely experience
Loved this little cafe. Its dog-friendly too!
It's out of the way but a great place for lunch.
It sells locally made craft items too.
It wasn't too busy and the service is great.
We had tea with coffee and walnut cake which tasted lovely
We had been recommended the cafe by a gentleman who we met who lived nearby.
What a lovely place. We had the Rocky Northumbrian breakfast and the Breakfast Stottie. The food is outstanding and there is a lot to choose from.
The cafe looks small when you first enter. Donāt be put off as there are more tables in the conservatory and rooms off. The staff were wonderful and very friendly. Also the resident Border Collies that roam about are very friendly.
Would recommend if visiting the area.
Access is at the side of the farm and there is also a shop.
Absolutely perfect. Very friendly and the breakfast was the best!
Dog friendly, in fact so dog friendly they were happy for our two dogs to wander off a lead.
Definitely recommend and definitely will be back.
Lovely food made with thought and well tasty. Range of specials. Impressive cake choice too. Informed service and if weather good can sit in garden. We'll dog friendly. And wee shop of antiques and gifts to look over.
What a perfect experience š¤©šš¶ I didnāt dare to wish for something like this place š„¹ we had excellent food, great talks with the people there and our dog had lovely company š
All in all the best experience I had in a long while š
Hopefully we can come again soon as this is worth repeating!!
Homemade meals and cakes. Nice cafe area but also adjacent building with a snug for coffee and cake - peaceful and looking out into the garden area (with seating). There is also a restaurant area in this lovely old building. Dog friendly. Lovely Sam, Tess and Rocky are resident dogs.
Lovely place for a stop whilst in my way on a long trip up the A1. Delicious cakes - I sat in the conservatory to have my tea and cake and enjoyed the views which gave me the rest and refreshment I was after before the next leg of my journey. Easy to find and although itās a quiet spot, it was only half a mile down the road off the A1 so ideal for a weary traveller. Friendly atmosphere and amazing choice of cakes- thank you!
Sat outside in the garden with my greyhound catching the last of the sunshine (Oct 16th) I had a breakfast cooked to perfection.if you're a dog lover and someone who appreciates home cooked food, then come and try it here, you won't be disappointed
Visited on the recommendation of a friend, great breakfast, nice coffee, friendly owner and very dog friendly
