Visited yesterday for afternoon tea with my father and had a lovely afternoon. We sat in the garden as the weather was lovely and immediately we were asked if we would like a glass of champagne and when we said yes, this was served very quickly. We were then asked what we would like to drink, to which my dad had English breakfast tea and I had green tea, this was served shortly after we had leisurely enjoyed our glass of champagne in sunshine.
The afternoon tea was then served and looked very impressive on the three their cake stand with finger sandwiches, cakes and traditional scones and clotted cream - and it all tasted as good as it looked!!
We had three sandwiches each of cheese & tomato, ham & mustard and smoked salmon. All were delicious however would suggest a little less rocket in the ham sandwich (as this overpowered the taste a little) and perhaps more cream cheese with the salmon - I am not sure if there was any and if there was this was so little and difficult to taste!
The cakes were lovely with a selection of lemon sponge, chocolate brownie and banana cake (although we couldn't tell it was banana cake and had to ask!).
Finally the scones, jam and clotted cream - delicious! Although at this point we were pretty full, this was a lovely way to end, the scones were perfectly made (all too often scones are dry and hard but these just melted in the mouth!) - although this did start a debate between my dad and I as to whether you should put the jam or cream on first!!).
My only suggestion would be to offer an afternoon tea menu like other venues do to show what teas are available and what the afternoon tea contains as this would avoid having to ask the waiter what the items are or drinks available and know in advance what you have.
All in all a lovely afternoon in a lovely location - will definitely recommend!
Having previously been a professional chef for 20+ years for some of the finest restaurants in the south of england and one of the best international hotel companies, its fair to say I know good food when I eat it. This place is superb! One of the best places I have eaten in the last 12 months. The tastes are balanced and full without being too heavy or unnecessarily over the top. Presented perfectly with class and style without being pretentious and the portion sizes are perfect for all tastes.
It's the epitome of why I entered the catering trade and seeing food of this quality made me sorry I nolonger cook professionally.
Tom and his team were superb also. Attentive and friendly without being too heavy handed or over attentive.
If you want a superb meal out which is great value for what you receive I personally would struggle to recommend anywhere better within 30 miles.
A cracking place beautiful surroundings, very friendly staff, nothing to much for Lilly the receptionist also breakfast was spot on,eggs benedict a treat, will definitely be coming back with work,or pleasure,oh while i was there,an art exhibition was in full flow," how i will miss the tainted cow in the courtyard" brilliant
This is the best wedding venue ever! So romantic, and utterly beautiful. Krystyna and Russell you were amazing. We felt so special and cared for. We honestly couldn't have wished for a better day. Every last detail was taken care of and no query too small. Thank you for everything. We highly recommend The Talbot Inn to everyone for a special event or the perfect romantic getaway!
Excellent location in a beautiful place. Some great quaint and quirky shops very nearby.
The hotel is excellent, with very helpful staff. Great bar to sit in at night with good music. The food was reasonably priced considering the excellent quality of what was served. Compliments to the chef!!
A great place, excellent food, excellent atmosphere, excellent location- loved it!
Was a bridesmaid at my friend’s wedding yesterday at The Talbot. The coordinators were so organised and friendly, it really put the bride at ease.
The day went so smoothly and the venue was beautifully decorated. All the staff were really friendly and accommmodating. The food was great and a good choice of drinks at the bar. We all had a wonderful day and I would recommend this to anyone as a wedding venue. Thank you for making it so special x!
Attended my sister in laws wedding here on NYE and had a fabulous time. The staff were helpful and friendly, the food was great and the rooms were fab. We had room 5 which had lots of old world charm but with all mod cons. The breakfast was plentiful and very tasty. Thanks to everyone who made the day and evening so special. We will defiantly return for a night out and stay over.
My best friend got married here yesterday. Wow!! Amazing venue, fantastic staff and they couldn't do enough for us. Would definitely recommend.
Afternoon tea here using Travel Zoo vouchers was amazing value and included a glass of bubbly. Included finger sandwiches, scones and yummy cakes- plenty to eat, we had to take some home! Service was excellent- not hovering but always around to top up teapots and we weren't hurried at all. We were lucky to have a bright sunny day and sit overlooking the garden. Would highly recommend.
The Talbot hosted our NYE wedding. My husband and I are very grateful to the staff ... Mark in particular who was totally fantastic! This is a superb venue... We had the intimate ceremony we had hoped for in a beautiful setting and nothing was too much trouble. I can't recommend the Talbot highly enough .
Really polite and helpful staff. Food was delicious every day, served by a great team of waiters who really are a credit to the hotel and restaurant. Yes decor is a bit dated and worn, but can easily be overlooked as are just minor faults in an otherwise gorgeous place. Would definitely recommend and visit again.
I married my husband at The Talbot Hotel yesterday having booked the venue in February. I cannot fault this hotel or the staff in any way. Krystyna the Wedding Planner is the most attentive, kind and sweetest person you will ever meet who takes her role very seriously and has a keen attention to detail. Russell our host and toastmaster organised every single detail of our day ensuring our guests knew where to go and what to do, he sorted things out that even I'd forgotten and I planned this wedding to the letter!! He can read a crowd brilliantly and will have your guests eating out the palm of his hand! The serving staff are polite, friendly and attentive and will still be wearing a smile at 2am! The food was absolutely second to none and to have all our guests comment on how gorgeous the buffet was too, shows the quality and effort this hotel put in. The grounds are superb, the barns are so romantic and the bedrooms are quaint and brimming with character. Even all our belongings and gifts were collected up by staff and locked away for us to deal with in the morning, we didn't have to do anything except enjoy ourselves all day!! If I could do it all again but had a million pound to spend I still wouldn't have changed a thing about yesterday. The Talbot was the best decision we made and we haven't stopped receiving messages of how it was 'the best wedding our friends have ever attended' (and we are all in our forties so they've been to a few)! Breakfast this morning was a massive extended wedding in the garden room and was so delicious - nobody wanted to go home! These guys have become our friends and if I could give them 10 stars I would. Absolutely faultless. Thank you Talbot
Hotel is lovely, rooms are very clean and comfortable, staff attentive and friendly , food great, would definitely recommend
Lovely place, delicious food & good service. Very pleased with my evening at the Talbot Inn. The atmosphere was romantic & the restaurant was tastefully decorated throughout. I was surprised that it didn’t cost as much as I thought it would either - two mains, two desserts & a bottle of merlot costing just over £60. Thank you very much for a wonderful evening!
