Really nice place to have a drink in Richmond.
Dog friendly and a very helpful team who brought us our drinks.
Would highly recommend if visiting.
Where can I start to review an hotel that I had never heard of until a day or so before I stayed there !
We had stayed in a very nice pub at the start of the week but nothing can compare to this in Richmond.
We were on our way back to Sale after a break in Seahouses so decided to stay in Richmond again, the aforementioned pub was booked up so I looked on Google and The Fleece sprung into view.
We arrived after booking a double room with breakfast to be greeted by the manageress who's name (I am ashamed to say escapes me) She was so welcoming and we had a lovely chat about the hotel, food, the area and our backgrounds.
We made our way to our room at the front of the hotel which was very tastefully decorated and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom had a double shower with controls that could be set before entering.
The room overlooked the Friary tower in the park opposite and although on a main road was surprisingly quiet.
The stairway and corridors were also well appointed and had large mirrors which fitted in perfectly.
We made our way out of the hotel via the lovely bar area and decided to look at the menu for dinner that night. We booked a table for two and this was probably the best decision we had made all day.
We exited the bar via the side door which lead to an alleyway and turned right where its paved area and old brickwork lead to the main square the main focal point of the town.
We took in a few shops, watched England get stuffed by France in the six nations and then retired to our room to freshen up.
After an hour or so we made our way down to dinner where our chef Ali (the husband of our lady host) and his able assistant were waiting to give us food that danced all over our palets like a punk rocker jumping up and down in the 80's.
My wife had the beautiful bubbly cheese soufflé to start and I went for the perfectly cured salmon, which was a stunning plate of food.
We followed with Crab spaghetti for my wife and I indulged myself with the Loin of venison cooked blue as I asked not rare as stated on the menu.
Both meals were perfect in every aspect and we decided we were pleasantly satisfied so we opted for Irish coffee in the bar with petit fours.
Ali the chef told us he had trained at Claridges and we told him the food was amazing.
We chatted with his wife after the meal and retired up to bed bidding goodnight to the many dogs we stepped over on the way.
We ate breakfast in the light and airy restaurant next day which again was perfect.
We left two very contented customers who will definately be returning and will again be indulging ourselves on the full hit of food and the comfortable rooms.
NB the home made Maple bread served with the Salmon was worth crawling across the restaurant floor to get to.
What a fantastic hotel. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone with a dog, or without a dog as the food and rooms are both amazing. All the staff are so friendly and they all love dogs. We took Stan, our Greyhound, there for a night and he was welcomed into the hotel, where we had the most fantastic food, cooked by the owner/chef. Definitely try the Cheese souffle as that was just amazing. And the next morning at breakfast, Stan had his own place set at the table in the bar with dog biscuits and sausages. So nice to be able to take your dog to breakfast rather than having to leave them behind in the room which is often the case. If you don't know the area, just north of Richmond is the old racecourse, which is now closed and this is where everyone walks their dogs. Parking is free and the racecourse is safe to let your dog off the lead and there is plenty of room for them to stretch their legs running around the old course. We will definitely be coming back to Richmond and staying at the Fleece Hotel.
A great place overall.
The rooms were clean and stylish, included with basics such as air conditioning, kettle, mini fridge and toiletries.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner were delicious, with good options and service.
The location is amazing, being 2 minutes from the town centre and castle, as well as 6 minutes away from the falls.
We had the most wonderful stay at The Fleece Hotel! All the staff have been welcoming and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The location was perfect to explore this market town and the surrounding areas for the last couple of days! Our room was perfect and very well decorated. Everything we needed were already there, although a couple more hangers would be great. But nonetheless, it was fab! The breakfast room was beautiful and airy and we had a choice of freshly cooked breakfast, alongside toast, cereals, coffees and juices. All in all, a brilliant stay and would highly recommend this hotel! Think it’s the best one in this town!
Our first visit to the Fleece and we booked ahead for a Sunday lunch. It was amazing. What a lovely place to be on a Sunday. We visited as a family with 3 generation for lunch and everyone loved it. The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! From grandparents to toddler everyone was welcome and catered for. Cannot wait to return!
Christmas lunch was fantastic. Turkey was so tasty and succulent, veggies fab too. The sea bream and vegan mushroom risotto were also beautifully prepared and very tasty. Compliments to the chef! Friendly and attentive staff. Lovely historic building and fine decor. Can throughly recommend.
If I could give this hotel 6 stars I would. What a perfect stay. Rooms lovely and comfy. Breakfast was stunning and location is spot on.
The customer service here is there biggest asset. The staff could not do enough for us. Lovely and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel and we will certainly be back.
Thanks for our amazing stay.
We (5 of us + 2dogs) stayed at The Fleece in August and loved it. Rooms were great, food was really good. Of the meals we had in Richmond … we all agreed that our meal at The Fleece was definitely the best. Breakfast was excellent too. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. It’s dog friendly … dogs are really really welcome! The location is fantastic in the centre of the lovely town of Richmond. We loved our stay!
What a fantastic hotel with staff that totally went above and beyond when we were in desperate need of somewhere to stay after being let down by our holiday let on Wednesday.
Saul, Lily and the rest of the team were kind, attentive and extremely helpful to our party of 10. Nothing was too much trouble, even placing a cake for my mother in law's 80th birthday in their fridge. We all agreed we had never experienced hospitality like it!
The room, breakfast and ambience were all perfect. If I could give 6 stars I would! Thanks so much to all the Fleece staff! We will be back and will recommend you to all our friends!
