We absolutely loved this place. A lovely wee traditional, welcoming pub/restaurant. Very friendly staff and service. Great food and well stocked bar..... We had such a great meal on Friday that we booked a table for the Saturday too. Our little dog Jasmine was made to feel very welcome too.... We will be back down in Richmond for a few days over the festive period to visit family, so we can't wait to spend amother couple of nights in this lovely wee gem of a pub
Had a party for 50 people. The food was amazing and service just brilliant! Thank you James & Hana and team! Can highly recommend.
Fantastic pub with great good and great hosts, highly recommend
Friendly staff. Great beer. Even better food. Fantastic local pub set in a lovely village.
Great country pub, excellent food. Really enjoyed my short stop in the pub
Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely place in a lovely setting, food was excellent.
Wonderful, cosy country pub. Delicious food and the staff are excellent.
Excellent dinner yesterday ! 33 ladies from Cestrian Flower club had dinner plus our coach driver ! Excellent food and great service . James and his staff are excellent hosts we will be back.
Very nice pub, just down the road from the Travelodge at Scotch Corner. Been a few times beer well kept and always a good selection.
It has been 3 years but we stopped in here quite late one evening for dinner while traveling back to heathrow. Everything about it was lovely - decor, atmosphere, food and service.

Fabulous food love eating here n staff are great c
Fantastic food and service. Lovely decor and great selection of ales.
Excellent location, quiet and relaxing. Good beer and food incredibly good. The Chef really has mastered his trade and having ordered both of the signature dishes we wasn't disappointed.
Mustn't forget the front of house. The waitresses served us well and we thank them for their part in making our meal and special treat that much more memorable. Thank you
Fab food and service thankyou for a lovely lunch.
Lovely food and great relaxed atmosphere. I’m sure we’ll be back.
Fantastic food, lovely staff, very friendly atmosphere. Food was outstanding, we ate there the first night of our trip and booked straight away for the second. Don't pass this by, if you're looking for somewhere to eat in this area you have found it. Stop looking 😀
Went for dinner at about 7pm on a Wednesday.
We managed to get a table without booking.
We ordered
Salmon - with veg
Burger - with chips
Child's fish fingers, chips and peas.
The Salmon was very tasty & the accompanying veggies were perfectly cooked.
The burger was pretty average however the chips were superb.
Child's plate was a very generous portion of fish goujons, chips and peas, enough to feed a starving child or a hungry adult.
Deserts
Banofee mess - delicious!
Marmalade cheese cake - superb!
The service was friendly & attentive and the food is reasonably priced
A lot of years since our last visit. But still a wonderful quaint unspoilt British pub. Food excellent quality and very well prepared and presented. Reasonable prices across the board. Booking is essential as all tables in the area we were in had reserved markers on them
The food was amazing. We had 3 courses and they were all excellent. Presented really well and decent amount!
The service was also excellent by all members of staff
Only note - I asked for a small wine at the end and was served 175ml!

Booked for Sunday dinner, absolutely perfect atmosphere, as well as the most lovely staff and well... the food - delicious.. we had the Sunday roasts and beautiful fresh veg - 10 out of ten for flavour and quality. We will all be back xx
Lovely Sunday lunch, great old pub, good ales, friendly service, cracking food.
Great place, really old pub that serves great food, I was looking forward to the whole menu which looks really good but we went on a Sunday and was only giving a Sunday menu roast etc. But I guess that's my bad for not checking. Saying that I had prawn and crayfish cocktail and pork roast it was really nice. A pint Guinness and two Cokes, two starters two roasts £46. I thought that was good as the food is quality and well cooked, nice restaurant good car park and some toilet humor (see photo) .
My wife and have been eating here for a number years and have never had a bad or even an ok meal. The food has always been of the highest standard. The welcome from James and his family has been fantastic and the atmosphere is that of a traditional English pub of the past.
The Shoulder of Mutton would always be my first choice to take anyone to, to sample first class cuisine in such a welcoming environment. There no one thing on the menu I could recommend, having tried them all they are all as excellent as each other.
Great, proper country pub, with consistently good food, service and beer. We stay in nearby Richmond twice each year and always make sure we visit the Shoulder of Mutton each time - we’ve been eating here for about six years now. Booking ahead is useful as they’re usually busiest early in the evening (and closed Monday and Tuesday).
There’s always a staple of things they do very, very well - such as a steak pie, fish and chips, fish pie, cheese soufflé, sharing boards etc - as well as specials, such as black pudding bon bons and deep fried squid. You’ll usually be spoiled for choice, put it like that.
We’re big fans of Black Sheep and that’s usually on tap.
The steak pie is consistently good, as are the double dipped chunky chips. Highly recommended.
Traditional Yorkshire pub and food. Roast beef amazing and wonderful veg selection. Black Sheep bitter was perfect. Excellent service. Will be back soon
What a great find. Lovely pub, warm welcome. A really good menu. The food was cooked perfectly. I couldn't praise everything highly enough.
A great find. So glad we stopped off enroute to wherever to eat. Absolutely amazing food of a much higher standard the just your traditional pub grub. Lovely service. Thank you for our delicious meals...we will definately be back!
Called in en route along A1 instead of stopping at the sévices. Place was packed. We both had beef Sunday dinner. Excellent beef nicest I’ve had for a long time.
Service was excellent. Fast. Really fast. Quicker than services and 50x better.
I will call in again
Visited with my daughter and her partner recently. Lovely cosy country pub just off the A1M . The fish and chips were delicious, crispy flavoursome batter and chunky fish . My daughter's fish pie also got a thumbs up from her. During our lunch there was an unfortunate issue for a lady with a health problem, but the lady who I assumed was the landlady handled it well until the ambulance arrived --my daughter went to get the local defibrillator in case it was required. Hope the lady recovered ok. The landlord provided excellent service on his own. Top notch hostelry
Lovely village pub with decent food. We've been for lunch menu and dinner menu. Both were delicious. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area.
Nice atmosphere food wholesome , down side was there was a power cut so no food being served a glass off wine would off been welcome on the house as token for the customers
A wonderful cosy pub with really excellent, good value food, great beer and friendly staff. Well worth a visit if you are nearby or a 5 minute diversion off the A1 for a memorable meal! The steaks and pies were really outstanding!
Good food and excellent quality, with friendly service to match.
Will call again next time we are in the area.
