One of the best indian meals I've ever had, I had a special menu with chicken and chili cheese bread.
Fabulous food and service! I live in the US and miss decent Indian food, and this hut the spot!
Amazing curry before the theatre. We went on a trip advisor recommendation and were not dissapointed! The Malabar fish curry with mustard seeds and leaves was the best we’ve tasted, and Dal makhani was especially tasty. And all very well served! We will definitely be going back to try more dishes
The special chicken they had on the day's menu was great. As was side and nan.
Best Indian in SW London. Attentive staff and the food is amazing. Love going here.
Can't fault the place eaten there at least four times brilliant every time
Really good food and excellent service
Swagat means welcome the name is well suited to this restaurant...food quality is fabulous...Sea bass is simply out of this world.....cold weather n hot food is the best combination..thnk you guys keep up the good work..Cheers!!!
Came here for dinner tonight. The food was very tasty and the portions were quite big. I noticed that nothing on the menu was very hot (spicy), instead they focused on infusing their food with authentic Indian herbs and spices.
To start, we had popadons and deep-fried king prawns (although having lived in Hong Kong for 10 years we didn't consider them very big). Unless you really like Indian spices a lot, I wouldn't recommend ordering the prawns as they have a very strong flavour to them (a little too strong for my taste buds). Then, we ordered 2 vegetable dishes (one was a sweetcorn curry and the other an aubergine dish - can't quite remember the names of them), 1 chicken dish in a mild tomato cream sauce and a lamb biryani. Everything was delicious! The vegetables were cooked just right and the meats were tender and juicy. This, along with some nam bread, was definitely enough to feed 4 hungry people, maybe even 5 not-so-hungry people.
When we arrived at 7, the restaurant didn't look very busy. But later in the night, it started to fill up. If you're planning on having dinner later, I would recommend booking a table.
J. Peterson. Not usually a fan of restaurants due to previous bad experiences, I decided to try Swagat. Considering my wife was not a fan of Indian food, I was willing to take a risk as I heard many good views on this restaurant. And I must say it didn't fail to impress. It was a completely different experience to your normal Indian food. They had a touch of class along with delicious food. I can confidently say I will be returning, along with my wife who has taken an interest in Indian food.
My boyfriend and I visited swagat based on the good reviews we had seen on the Internet. We were not dissapointed. The meat was lean and tender, the portion size extremely generous (I felt full after the starter so watch how much you order!) and the dishes perfect. My boyfriend who would have a curry for breakfast if he could even declared that swagat was his new no.1 restaurant!!!!! Go there, it's worth s visit
Swagat is on Richmond Hill, a short walk up from the cinema. It was established in 2006 by the wonderfully named Sudden Alberts and his business partner Krishnapal Negi. It is unprepossessing, with a small, quite cramped dining room and very small tables. The menu covers the usual north Indian staples, with a few less common dishes such as a curry involving sea bass.
There was a basic wine list without vintages; Il Moro Delibvoro Pinot Grigio was at £17.99 for a wine that you can find in the high street for around £9, Trinity Hill Pinot Noir Black Label at £26.99 for a wine that costs around £18 retail. A large bottle of Cobra was £5.50, mineral water £3.
Aloo tikki chat was attractively presented, a spicy potato cake with chickpeas and yoghurt with tamarind chutney. The spicing was nicely controlled, the chickpeas tender, the texture good (14/20). Murgh malai was also pleasant, served with mint chutney, the chicken tender and quite moist, the spicing vibrant but well controlled (13/20).
Tandoori prawns were carefully cooked, marinated and with good texture (14/20). Methi chicken had a rich sauce, plenty of fenugreek flavour and nicely cooked chicken (14/20). Aloo gobi retained the texture of the potato and cauliflower, the spices good (14/20), whilst a channa had tender chickpeas (13/20). Naan bread was quite supple (13/20), raita a little watery.
The bill came to £45 a head including drinks. Service was a lot slicker than I was expecting in a local restaurant, with staff carefully checking around the dining room, and eager to help. Overall I was very impressed with Swagat, which delivered food far better than I anticipated.
At a second meal the standard was confirmed. A starter of deep-fried prawns had good batter and was nicely spiced (14/20), whilst a marinated chicken dish cooked in the tandoor had tender meat and nicely balanced spices (14/20). Methi chicken was good as before (14/20), a prawn curry pleasant, though the prawns in this case were cooked a fraction long (13/20). I was particularly impressed with black dhal, which had excellent smoky flavour and good texture; this is a very common dish, but this was an uncommonly good version of it (15/20). Service was fine.
Absolutely fantastic fresh food we had here. Everything is very tasty. The service was excellent and Sagar was very helpful and friendly. My bf has been coming here for years and this was my first time and I loved it. Thank you so much. We will be coming back. Best Indian food in Richmond!
The most delicious food I have ever had! I love this food. Everything is amazing. Chicken Korma sauce is exquisite. The Tikka Masala is fantastic! The naan, oh baby! I will be ordering more very soon! Thank you Swagat.

10/10 experience. Food was no other than amazing, great tasting and served quickly. The service was very nice too and I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys a great curry.
Visited Thursday evening 2nd March. Absolutely delicious food, when my friend and I meet up in Richmond every few months we always look forward to dinner at The Swagat, and the food just gets better every time.
Thank you, and see you again soon
Alan
Good is pretty amazing but portion is rather small. The lights were so dimmed you can barely read the menu. Service should be improved but it's still acceptable. Particularly loved the grill fish that's the best of the meal I had. For the price you're paying (20-25 quid per head) I would say this place is worth the experience!
For an Indian it’s on the expensive side but that’s purely the location so it is what it is. The food was very good and the service impeccable. The waiter with the glasses was a credit to the restaurant and the industry. I’d have no hesitation in returning.
Excellent food and service!!!
Arrived here early last Wednesday evening , the waiter was on point noticed when I had finished my coke was given popadoms whilst I looked at menu and my starter arrived quickly. It was beautiful from the starter to the main meal the garlic naan was so fresh and tasty I ordered another to take home and brought my leftovers home I couldn’t leave it behind , even the rice was lovely will definitely return .
A fantastic find, great Indian food, best in Richmond.
Really tasty! Not your average Indian. Unique tasting dishes which were fresh and exciting. The flavours were amazing, rich and unctuous. Sudden, the head Chef came out to explain one the ingredients ... an Indian bay leaf.....lovely man and its clear he's food is his passion. Would recommend highly
Really lovely food and friendly staff. A lot of dishes were from Kerala which is one of the most beautiful parts of India with some of the best food!
Having tried other Indians in the Richmond, I would come back here for sure.
We ordered via delivero. Food was very tasty and had authentic flavours without being spicy. My kids also loved the food. Delivery was on time and food was piping hot. Its on my list now for regular order😀
