Had a super time at this lovely Hotel...a birthday/ anniversary treat... Beautiful room with balcony views of the river... staff very friendly & helpful... lovely lunch. Finished our stay with a drive through Richmond Park (5 mins away ) perfect!
Another delightful visit taking afternoon tea, overlooking the River. Very attentive staff and gorgeous food! Had to take cakes home as the portions were so generous! Accommodated dietary requirements and seating requests! Highly recommend
The staff are excellent (especially Robin who has helped us with the heater, given us lots of tourist information and made us feel like at home) and the service is 5-star. Love their full English breakfast and the amazing view of the Thames River. I would definitely go there again.
I would recommend this high tea to anyone! Fabulous food, a beautiful setting, and a wonderful staff!!!
The view from our table in the restaurant was amazing! I was lucky enough to be taken here for birthday treat & loved it .. the food, the service &the ambience.. wonderful!
Dinner for eight....a special occasion for us! The staff did not disappoint in any way. Wonderful service; always on hand, always willing and attentive, caring, sensitive and discreet. Could not have been better. Thank you to all.
Such a beautiful hotel in a stunning location overlooking the Thames. The restaurant is bright and takes in the stunning elevated views overlooking the meadow and the Thames. The menu is modern and well thought out with an amazing blend of flavors. The Dover Sole was stunning. The table also ordered the seafood linguini. Deserts was finished off by an amazing soufflé. Wine menu is excellent as is the service. A beautiful meal with a beautiful view in a lovely hotel.
The Petersham dining room does have something of a strategic advantage – dining looking out through floor to ceiling windows, at the view of the Thames which inspired Turner to paint the meadows is always a joy. I last visted The Petersham in the summer, before the recent makeover, and was suitably impressed then.
Sometimes you just need to escape the hustle and bustle of London. Luckily, the beautiful countryside of Richmond isn’t far away…
High above the rolling meadows and wandering deer of this royal park, The Petersham Hotel stands proudly atop Richmond Hill – the perfect perch for a spot of afternoon tea. More specifically The Poppy Afternoon Tea, which comes complete with thick cut salmon sandwiches, homemade poppy seed scones, bitter chocolate and praline Opera cakes and poppy seed shortbread biscuits.
Although no persuasion is needed, it’s good to know that all your indulgence will be for a good cause! For every Poppy themed tea The Petersham will donate £2 to The Poppy Factory, home of the Remembrance Sunday Poppies.
Sit back, enjoy the panoramic views and forget about the urban sprawl… well at least for a while anyway.
I took my Mum and sister on our way out of London for the Easter weekend and it was a complete success. Beautiful, simple, seasonal food, perfectly executed and the dining room, which is inside a conservatory, is stunning. Everything feels special yet completely informal and relaxed. We've all been recommending it, and have booked it for several special meals since. Completely idyllic.
The other week my friend Hilary and I went for Sunday lunch at The Petersham Hotel in Richmond. It had been a while since we had a proper catch up, and as Hilary lives near Richmond it was the perfect place for a gossip and delicious lunch! . We went for the three-course Sunday lunch (£34.50pp), and I chose the Steamed Lasagne of Cornish Crab, while Hilary went for the Cured Smoked Salmon. My lasagne was exceptionally good, the pasta was light and the Cornish crab in a coconut and tomato sauce was a delight. The flavours worked well together, and it wasn't too heavy for a starter.
This restaurant setting was beyond beautiful. Not contrived or pretentious and full of beautiful natural and rustic flowers amongst ornate gardening objects.
This would be perfect for anyone who loves outdoors and flowers. The menu was great but unfortunately 2 out of the 6 mains (mullet and rabbit) were sold out before we arrived at 2:30, might be worth pre-ordering? The service could be improved, the waitors felt nervous and were not attentive as they could have been - we had to wait for quite a long time each time we wanted to order more wine/ food.
That aside I would recommend this place to everyone and will be going back for my birthday this year.
A view, a stunning hotel, a sumptuous restaurant and Richmond Park – the most beautiful park I think I’ve ever strolled through in fact. These were all things I’d never expected on my Saturday afternoon and quite honestly the whole few hours in this neck of the woods took my breath away. It’s a beautiful suburb of London. Up on the hill overlooking the river Thames sits The Petersham Hotel – a striking and stunning privately owned four star hotel whose site has a rich history dating all the way back to 1863 – featuring a restaurant with light pouring in and an atmosphere quite unlike anything you’ll come across in central London.
A great place to hold a venue of 20 to 30 and get serve with good food, good service in a very nice location and setting in London all at a fair price
We first went here, shortly after it opened, in 2007. We were completely blown away by the superbly tasty food set in the delightfully informal setting of an earth floored greenhouse. Our second trip, not long afterwards, was almost as good but things went downhill for the next few years on our many subsequent visits. We reacquainted ourselves last night and had an absolutely superb meal. We had a stunning couple of starters including mozzarella, peppers, tomato, rocket and basil oil. Also, the chorizo bruschetta was astonishing. Our main course of sea bass and courgette chips was perfect. The service was usually good, though things got a little slow from time to time. The wine list focusses a little too much on Burgundy and Italy for our tastes, though our Chablis was excellent. The tart tatin was first class: beautifully sticky with excellent pastry and early season apples. So pleased to see Petersham back on form, and with a Michelin star now too. Actually, the punters all seemed like Euro-foodies compared to our last visits, for what that's worth.
Fireworks, bubbles and feathers.... and not just on my plate. Where to begin with the tale of The Petersham? The Petersham would be a terrific place to lunch on a clear day. It's posited high up on Richmond Hill in the grand old Peter
Living as I do in Islington, Richmond is not an area I visit regularly but every time I do I am impressed at what a gorgeous part of London it is. The borough is home to Hampton Court Palace and The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, but it is the River Thames
I am always in awe of this beautiful building. It's located down a historic footpath, which is now a road, from Richmond Hill. Petersham Hotel is almost intimidating as you approach. Its high tower and Gothic styled balconies make it quite an imposing feature. The gardens are well manicured and it's location allows for seamless views across Petersham Meadows and river Thames, our venue for tonight's meal. We were early and headed for an aperitif in the bar area which in actuality, seemed more like a doctors waiting room, it's a little dated. We had a wait for service and drinks, it took almost 20 minutes before we got our beverages by this time it was past our dinner booking, this didn't appear to be a problem. It wasn't busy, one other couple who'd finished their high tea in the bar area and that's it. So far the drinks service had been slow but fortunately, things perked up when we were moved to the dining area.
The restaurant describe their food as being fine British cooking as reflected in the dish above of Ham and Tongue. The a la carte menu wasn't exactly extensive, but you could mix options with their summer menu which gave more rounded options. There were a few inconsistencies between the menu and what was plated but in all fairness they did warn on their website that dishes may be changed at short notice, and the food that was served, was very good. The tongue was served with roasted pepper, coriander and feta yoghurt. The other starter was Brochette Salmon with smoked haddock, sorrel risotto and lemon sauce. This was a sizeable starter, topped with airy crisp seaweed that had a bright sea flavour. Tender fish with a wicked smoky charcoal burn on the outside of the Salmon, this was delicious. The tongue was delicate and both starters I felt were very well executed and tasty. The presentation of the salmon was not as delicate but I do like how the seaweed adds to the dish.
The staff were polite for our table service, the main waiter had personality a plenty, was very efficient and oozed experience. The dining room, once you get out of the waiting room, is lovely with decent views across meadows and the distant river. The facilities in the hotel are of very high standard, so with all of this, I wondered why they'd Steak and Chips on the menu. I decided to order it. Turned out to be a winner. The steak was simply perfect, 20% fat to meat ratio. Properly cooked, properly seasoned properly everything, the Madeira jus and the mushrooms, a bit of bearnaise and you are in heaven. Each item, so simple and so understated, the tomatoes incredibly sweet and floral, the mushrooms with deep intense earthy flavour. It's difficult to illustrate how good this simple steak meal was, if you're craving a top steak then this has to be one of your choices.
The other mains from the menu were seared scallops, scallops were replaced with Fish and Octopus. The octopus was served lovely and soft with crushed potato in a devilishly buttery sauce. A scattering of fennel, watercress, lettuce and broccoli and a garnish of samphire.
We had quite delectable desserts as pictured below. A rich Chocolate Mousse with cherry in alcohol. This was like a chocolate foie gras, dense, sweet and sour. Also for sweets, the buttermilk Panna Cotta with Blackberry compote, honeycomb ice cream served in a glass.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable dinner, apart from a few pre dinner service hiccups and the oddity of the bar area with its tired looking furnishings it's obvious the restaurant separates itself by serving excellent cuisine with great table side service. I would mention that I find the pricing on the expensive side so it's very hard to recommend other than that of a special occasion, even then it is still a hefty amount. I would love to see a set three course menu at a more reasonable offering, this would see the punters coming in. It's a shame to keep that lovely view all to themselves.

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch at the Petersham restaurant.
Service was exceptional, everything done to perfection down to a tee and the food/ drink was even better.
We all had quite a variety which was nice to taste the majority. The smoked salmon comes on a trolley and is sliced at the table which is a lovely touch…the place has such a relaxed atmosphere and you just enjoy the views and wonderful tasty dishes!
I had the salmon with celeriac which was cooked to perfection.
Finished off with a desert. Had to choose again so we had a selection and tasted the majority!
Thanks so much to Umit who is wonderful and made us feel so welcome. I’m sure we will be back!!

My cousin treated us to a real English High Tea! Wonderful experience. Scenic, upscale and somewhat pricey.
Loved this place. Relaxed afternoon tea. All very tasty and too much to eat in one go so some of the amazingly delicious cakes taken home. First class scones and a plentiful supply of clotted cream. Idyllic views over the Thames.
Beautiful Sunday lunch
The lamb shoulder was cooked to perfection, and the truffle mash was perfect
Amazing service!
Beautiful restaurant!
I came in to discuss my Mother’s 80th birthday celebrations in person with the wonderful restaurant manager called Chris. Very informative, very kind, very professional, very nice!
As a result of his demeanour, I’ve booked in 14 to lunch!
Thank you Chris!
Best,

As always, there is a great atmosphere and a view that never grows old. Umit, as always, is the perfect manager.
Outstanding, Service, Staff, Price, Location, View, but management needs a bit less serious (Avoiding tensions) and more soft with staff members. But, I have to say management knows what they are doing as the restaurant runs smoothly and that sends a message of the standards. Congratulations to the kitchen, they have cooked a tremendous, unforgettable, delicious, dishes and we were highly satisfy. The place is so beautiful. It is a very special place for very romantic special occasions, weddings, day to day dinner with wife and Saturday or Sunday lunch with kids!!! Loved it!!!
Lovely restaurant with spectacular views over the river Thames.
The beautiful setting, a fine dining atmosphere and an excellent service make this restaurant an unforgettable experience.
The food was very nice. We chose potted shrimps for starter followed by spinach and goat cheese canneloni and black cod and we finished with a strawberry souffle.
Everything tasted delicious and was beautifully presented.
We were happy with the whole experience and would definitely return.
The Petersham Restaurant is close to the River Thames and in the best location in Richmond. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner many times there with my family and friends. The hotel's views, food and service are the best in London. As Kizilari family, we would like to thank especially Mr. Atan and restaurant staff who have always been kind to us.
Excellent food and service. Lovely view
This is a great place to take out of town guests (or those unfamiliar with Richmond) to show them “Turner’s View” of the Thames from a beautiful period hotel. The restaurant is elegant and serves French-accented modern British fare and they have a decent wine list. The food mainly consisted of updated versions of British classics, like Dover sole and Scottish smoked salmon (carved tableside), and everything was nicely done. When you consider the views, easy parking, and excellent service, this is definitely a stop worth making.
Beautiful riverside restaurant Beautiful views over the Thames. Very professional and attentive restaurant staff and Beautiful decor.
The Petersham Restaurant served delicious lunch with dessert. I enjoyed food taste and quality.
Picked this place out of the blue as we were looking for somewhere upscale in Richmond to celebrate our wedding anniversary. What we were surprised with was outstanding service, beautifully presented food and a menu that focusses on fresh ingredients. They had a British revival menu with a modern twist like the Peach Melba dessert that was interesting with pasta as an accompaniment.
Tip: Enjoy breathtaking views of Richmond park if you ask for a window seating!
Really nice and classic hotel, on a hill with a wonderful view of the river and 5 min walk from the beautiful trail along it. Haven't tried their restaurant. Room is small but cozy and comfortable.
Amazed, absolutly great restaurant and the food was really delicious. It was quite long time ago when i had such a nice experience and the price are also okay compare to other places in Richmond. 3 course menu 30 GBP.
We had a memorable champagne tea in the elegant restaurant with on of the most beautiful view's in England. Even on a grey rainy day the view over the thames was stunning, Top class service and tea.
