Very nicely located hotel.
We booked a room with a lake view and were completely satisfied.
The room size was decent. The shower had good pressure and provided consistent heat.
The breakfast was ok, the salmon is worth mentioning.
All in all, a very nice hotel. Of course, you have to accept some compromises.
Great family-friendly hotel/restaurant. Food is great, and Service always comes with a smile. We had been going here for years, and this was our first visit in around 7 years or so. I'm delighted that it hasn't changed too much, and still has that family-friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend for a family meal or out on a date.
Booked online reservation and table ready on arrival. Menu selection was decent and catered for all of our party. Bar area seemed really busy.
Service was a little slow taking drinks orders and then waiting for food order to be taken. Ran out of spare cutlery it seemed as well!!
Felt some main courses were a little expensive for what arrived on the plate (lamb shank seemed the worse)
Overall a nice meal. And would give it another opportunity to impress.
Didn’t book a room but booked for dinner, service and food were amazing! Staff were very friendly and the food was cooked perfectly, I had the balmoral burger and it was so juicy. Thank you, we would love to visit again in the future!
Went to ardencaple tonight to find a new menu in place which was ok. But my mother law ordered fish and chips, which this place had an excellent reputation for. Very disappointed , not the normal fish with lovely fresh batter. She couldn't cut through the batter very rubbery, definitely not hand battered as advertised. My husband has been chef for 40yrs he questioned hand battered description. Waitress came back and said definetly hand battered so i think they need to review this product otherwise they will be loosing customers. No crispness to batter ,ready battered definetly and cooked in oven.

Popped in on our way back from a trip to lochgilphead direction, my other half wanted a beer! Plenty of outdoor seating and the have a glass partition up along the front to help cut out the wind from the water front. Beautiful views. We saw a few people having food while we were there, it all looked delicious, and the lovely smells of steak and burgers were wafting, so we ordered dinner. I had the duo of fish with potatoes, he had a burger with haggis, both delicious, although it took a while to come. They do seem busy, and it was Friday night. Good selection of beer and they have some pre mixed cocktails in the fridge for the young team, but sit outside if the weather is nice, lovely atmosphere and great views.
Took my mum for lunch, service was top class, staff efficient and friendly. Food was delicious but could do with a bit more choice for those who are dieting.
Lovely place to eat and drink and the rooms are very good for the age of the building. All of the staff was very helpful during my stay.
Had a lovely lunch here. Staff were lovely, very welcoming. Reasonably priced too.
This was going to be 3* but the Brunch saved it! Once we found which entrance way to go through to the check-in area we were greeted warming and pointed to our room - No. 9 - Neptune (bit strange for the only water-related named room to not have a loch view but that’s just me!). The room was lovely and spacious with a lot of plugs and USB ports for your gadgets, very clean and well maintained, a good amount of storage space and a very large and bright bathroom with a shower and bath/shower combo as well and nice large towels. There were a a couple issue in the bathroom; there was no towel hook next to the sink for the hand towels and the only towel rack is over by the toilet, which is an odd place to have the towel rack, the towel rack itself is heated by not big enough to place to towels on easily and the showers took a very long time to get hot and had very little pressure, we tried both to see if one was better than the other but there was no luck. The bed was VERY comfy, a nice firm mattress and plush duvet which made for a really good nights sleep. Breakfast was very disappointing, unfortunately… once we made our way through the maze of corridors to the breakfast room we were greeted warmly and pointed to a seat, no other guidance was provided as to how the breakfast service worked and there were no prices on the menu to be able to work anything out, my husband went to get us coffee and instead of there being an urn of coffee you just had to spoon some instant granules in to the cup and add hot water, there was no bread or toaster, no plates, a couple of bowels which didn’t look overly clean, a few muffins, croissants, cereals, apples and pots of of pre-prepared fruit.
This lead us to just have a coffee and leave, but in doing so went to Beachcomber Cafe and had an incredible breakfast!
The next day we decided to give their Brunch a try with my sister and brother-in-law… this really redeemed them! My brother-in-law and I had a Big Traditional Scottish Breakfast, my sister had a regular Traditional Scottish Breakfast and my husband had Toast & Jam as well as a bowel of Porridge with Honey (which wasn’t on the menu but they kindly made it) - everything was cooked well, nice and hot, great quality ingredients, this time lovely coffee and very friendly and helpful staff, this certainly made up for the previous day.
Based on our overall experience we WOULD still be happy to stay here again.
The Bar 5*:
Brilliant family and dog friendly pub with a HUGE selection of Whiskey and Gins, very knowledgeable head(?) barman who was very helpful with drink pairings, incredibly friendly and always smiling. Everything was well priced and the burgers, mac&cheese and chicken thighs were all very tasty and well cooked, remaining juicy, tender and flavoursome with mac&cheese being nice and gooey. Comfortable seating, good music and a warm atmosphere, my husband and I loved sitting in here for hours with my sister, brother-in-law, nephew.
Staff are very friendly and helpful, food is excellent and good value.
The Arden caple has had a make over nice touch with beer garden out the front, staff need to cheer up a bit though. Rooms are very good
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and we found it alot better than these reviews that have been left.
We stayed in room 230 which was a very large room with a super king bed and a double sofa bed. The staff were lovely and friendly and would do everything possible for you to enjoy your stay. We used the restaurant/bar for meals and drinks which was lovely atmosphere. The food was good and was very large portion sizes. I personally would happily book and stay here again and recommend to all friends, family and future guests who are looking to book a hotel in this area.
Honestly......I loved my stay. Food was perfectly fine. The room was lovely. My daughter enjoy her time wandering around on the shoreline. But the best part was the staff. All incredibly friendly. Very quick service. The gentleman that checked us in was very friendly and the ladies behind the bar in the evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will also return. Living only just over an hour away my daughter has already requested a revisit. Great selection of food and beverages. Many thanks 😊
