This delightful pub came onto our radar four weeks ago when we started passing by weekly. Now, it's a stop off every time. Absolutely love it, to the point where I almost want to keep it to myself. Welcoming staff, fab food, lovely decor but still maintaining a proper pub feel...even great loos! Will be back! Edit..just had to add that I LVE that the food is home made....seems hard to get that these days and it's soooo much nicer...varied menu inc old favourites but also different specials. Did I say I love this place?!

We called 20 minutes before they stopped serving and asked for a table of 4 for 10 minutes time, the lady didn't sigh or huff as a lot of places do just before finishing serving. We were greated very pleasantly when we arrived, the furniture is lovely everything is solid wood. We had two small kids who didn't want a Sunday dinner, the waitress asked the chef to make some smaller versions of there main meals for the kids. These were quite frankly amazing, they had hunters chicken and a pie, the pie is possibly the best I have ever had (yes I stole some). Our Sunday dinners were very nice and large portions, we all had puddings which were just as good as the mains. The Gate is the best we have had in the area by a long long way. Well done

Had some potential adopters travel quite some distance to come and do a meet and greet with their dog and potential new dog. They wanted to go for lunch I recommended the gate after finding out it was dog friendly. They couldn't sing it's praises enough, friendly welcoming and very much a dog friendly pub not to mention their food being amazing. 5 awesome pub highly recommend x

Haven't been here for over 3 years, has new management now. I had the warm goats cheese in breadcrumbs with a beetroot compote, very tasty and my wife had the liver pate which she fully enjoyed. For our main course I had a fillet steak cooked to my liking with triple cooked chips, absolutely delicious. My wife had the steak and ale pie which again she fully enjoyed. From this first visit we would highly recommend the gate. Will be coming back to sample more of the menu.

We were told about this place but never really got the chance to go as live out in Rotherham. But went for Sunday lunch today and it was lovely. Great little pun and the food is fantastic. Had all good intentions of going for 2 courses but couldn't possibly eat anything else after a very filling Sunday dinner. Will definitely be returning xx

Lovely place. Staff were some of the nicest I’ve encountered anywhere. Food served at a relaxing pace, and my wife was a huge fan of the chips! Came away with full bellies, and would not hesitate to go back if we were ever in the area again.

We were recommended the gate, and not disappointed, the restaurant area is nicely decorated in a rustic theme comfy chairs, and the tables weren't cramed in . Extensive menu super of starters main and puddings. Recommended to all, the landlord is really accommodating friendly and made time to chat to everyone. Apparently the Sunday dinners are a speciality, we will be back.

Friendly welcome. Good food. Had the Sunday carvery which was very nice but I think some of the vegetables had been there a while. A good and varied menu.

Five star meal tonight with our family. Great food all had various meals from the extensive menu available. Recommend the pork belly, fillet steak, sticky chicken, mussels, meatball lasagne and the pie! We were all stuffed and not a morsel left! The staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. It felt very safe and relaxed. We would definitely return. Thankyou Chris and staff for the evening. Beth enjoyed her birthday meal even if the balloon deflated lol x 😍

This place is lovely. Chris the owner as done a fantastic job of the decor of the out side eating area. The menu as a little bit of everything for everyone the food is delicious. This place is a must if your in the area. If you are wanting a evening meal I would advise you to pre book. I had the Sutton pie and you need a big appetite.

We had a takeaway Sunday for 6 of us. It was terrific, my beef was really tender, gravy delicious, veg was plentiful and cooked to perfection. We wondered how it was going to be served, it was in a perfectly sized foil tray and gravy was in a separate container, so the food was still "as served" portion sizes were generous. So all in all considering it was a takeaway, we were very pleased. Will be having another one soon.

Called today with my daughter for dinner, the place is so comfortable & welcoming, the waitress couldn't do enough for us, there's a good selection of meals to pick from on the menu some of which you have to per-order so on the day of booking ( 2 day's before) I per-order the cornbeef pie,. On arriving today was told that it had not been notified or written down for the kitchen to prepare so had to pick a different mean which was nice but not what I truly wanted, also the veg was very sparse a piece of cauliflower & a small handful of carrots, would of been nicer & better if they added cabbage or something like that & not a baby's portion, it did look very poor, apart from that it was totally spot on & so tasty, defo going back again hopefully I'll get my pie lol thank you loads Neil x

Really a small gastropub. Comfortable & stylishly furnished. Smallish but well stocked bar with a choice of hand pulled real ales. Everywhere, including the toilets, beautifully clean. The restaurant area is also smallish and cosy but like the whole place, comfortable. However the big reason for visiting, is the food. The menu is thoughtfully compiled with a choice to suit everyone. The choices of our party were delicious and beautifully presented. Portions were large. Nobody went home hungry. In fact nobody will eat much the next day! The only criticisms are that the chairs are, for us, too low for the tables & the car park is awkward and too small for this popular pub situated on a sharp bend. Ok if not raining! We had a lovely evening. Service throughout was very attentive. It couldn't be faulted. Excellent.

The carvery is good value. And due to this it's very busy place. Pity there does not seem to be a vegetarian carvery option of nut roast, or similar. We ordered 1 carvery and 1 vegetarian dish ,was happy to wait.. would prefer the vegetarian dish to have come with a side of vegetables, that are already bulk prepared for the carvery. Again small issue but would make the veg meal seem better value for the cost. Comments about decor on other sites..are personal taste, i didnt mind the setting.

Good food, nice place, run by a nice host. It was our first visit, I hope it won't be our last. Cracking choice of starters, mains & desserts. I'm sure there's something for everyone.

Friendly very welcoming staff. Its more than just a local village pub its decor in both snug room&restaurant is very warm colours&tastefully done. We as a family group ages from infant to senior all enjoyed our evening. Starters were generous size,so if you have one be prepared for a very generous main course as some of our meals were larger than normal portions elsewhere however we didn’t mind at all..Food was presented nicely&some were very quirky(see photos). All homemade there&then so as stated on the menu to let them know if your having one of the very well filled pies as takes around 45 minutes, once we finished our starters all our main meals came out at the same time,so bare in mind to mention about ordering pies at the bar or to a member of staff-more than happy to help you. Finally I would say The Gate Inn is well worth a visit even if it’s a car/taxi journey,we really enjoyed our food experience&celebration. We did phone&book a table.
