Came here as a family with three children.
On arrival staff were friendly and accommodating and quick to be seated.
Food came out fresh , hot and quickly. I’d have to say that their breakfast is up there with one of the best breakfast I’ve had it’s so full of flavour and so fresh. They know what they are doing.
I ordered a coffee to go couldn’t fault that either .
Such a great spot !
The Switch is a small, independent cafe located in Tilehurst, Reading. It's a popular spot for breakfast, brunch, and lunch, and it's known for its creative and delicious dishes. The Chorizo Duck Eggs on Sourdough is one of the cafe's most popular dishes, and it's easy to see why. The dish is made with two duck eggs, which are fried until the whites are set and the yolks are runny. The eggs are then topped with a generous amount of chorizo, which has been cooked until it's crispy and flavorful. The dish is served on a slice of sourdough toast, which soaks up all the delicious juices from the eggs and chorizo.
I recently had the opportunity to try the Chorizo Duck Eggs on Sourdough, and I can honestly say that it was one of the best breakfast dishes I've ever had. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the chorizo was flavorful and crispy, and the sourdough toast was the perfect accompaniment. I would definitely recommend this dish to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying breakfast.
In addition to the Chorizo Duck Eggs on Sourdough, The Switch also offers a wide variety of other breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes. The menu changes seasonally, so there's always something new to try. The cafe also has a full coffee bar, so you can enjoy your meal with a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.
The Switch is a great place to enjoy a delicious and satisfying meal. The food is creative and delicious, the service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. I highly recommend The Switch to anyone looking for a great place to eat in Tilehurst.
Here are some additional details about my experience at The Switch:
The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. The cafe is small and cozy, with plenty of natural light. There's a small outdoor seating area if you prefer to eat outside.
The service was friendly and attentive. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and was happy to make recommendations.
The food was creative and delicious. The Chorizo Duck Eggs on Sourdough was the highlight of my meal.
The prices were reasonable. The Chorizo Duck Eggs on Sourdough were £10.95, which I thought was a fair price for the quality of the food.
Overall, I had a great experience at The Switch. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal in Tilehurst.
3rd visit to the switch and as great as ever.
The menu offered a wide array of options from savory classics like full english and eggs benedict to sweet treats, there was something for everyone to savor. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, leaving me fully satisfied with every bite.
However, it's important to note that the place was busy, which inevitably led to a significant wait time. The high demand meant the kitchen was quite busy, and service might have been a bit slow.
Yet, once the dishes arrived at the table, it was evident that the wait was worth it.
In conclusion, if you're willing to exercise a little patience and appreciate a well-prepared breakfast or brunch, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Just be sure to plan your visit accordingly, as its popularity often translates to longer wait times
Staff were super friendly and accommodating. My son knocked over his juice and they were quick to tidy up the spill and gave him a free replacement. Portions were great and of excellent quality. We’ll definitely be back.
We went to have English breakfast, but I didn’t fancy it so I ordered avocado smash. My family told me that the English breakfast was very nice. Unfortunately my avocado toast wasn’t great, the avocado was gone off and it was tasting a bit acid. The poached eggs were perfectly done, however such a small eggs. Service was amazing and I guess was my fault not reporting about the avocado. Will come back probably I really like the place and would like to try more of the food they offer
This cafe is a real treat. It’s class. I’ve had breakfast here once and would like to repeat that. It’s tiny. And popular. Staff are friendly and charming. The food is … very good. How can you fry an egg to that perfection? Wish I knew. I hear this place has won awards. No surprise really. Recommend you turn up and see for yourself. Massively recommended.
This is a popular spot for locals and I can understand why; great value, speedy service and tasty dishes. The awards the Switch have recently won are well deserved and truly a gem in the area.
The staff are friendly and polite; adds to the nice good vibes of the place.
Overall I would go again and recommend to others (even during the weekend and peak times).
Tips:
-there are plenty of free parking behind the establishment.
-the pancakes are great and recommend to trying.
-you can order at the counter and pay there (rather than at the end of the meal; it speeds up the service).
Fantastic family run place for brunch. Some dishes are substantial and may require a doggy bag! I had the classic eggs benedict and it was great, with thing parna style ham rather than the often used thicker ham. Definitely worth a visit.
What a gem! I live in Plymouth/Devon, so was lucky to check out this epic café with cool/trendy food @ real reasonable prices with my family.
Had 4 different items, one nicer than the other!
Every time I'm around here I'll have to get some of these nourishing goodies 🥗
Front office staff Layla & Iman were very kind/helpful during our visit. 10/10 😎👍🏼
The Switch was recommended and it was not a let down. The milk shakes were to die for, and the food delicious. Staff were friendly and happy to chat although they were busy. Good value for money definitely going back. Parking was a bit difficult as Tilehurst was busy.
Amazing food & service, the quality of the food is 2nd to none.
I arrived with my partner & assistance dog, the owner initially didn't want to allow my assistance dog in, but in his words ' please educate me' he listened to me & admitted that he didn't know the law on assistance dogs.
He let us in & informed his staff, who were fantastic & accommodating.
I had a breakfast & my partner had smashed avocado, both were beautifully prepared & generous portions, neither of us could clear our plates.
We left there full up & full of praise for the establishment & staff, we will definitely be going back 5* from us 👍
Terrific little cafe right in the heart of Tilehurst Reading England. Great breakfast, good coffee, friendly and awesome service all around. Thanks to the lovely young lady who served us, what a darling. Thanks for a great start to the day.
Excellent brunch spot in Tilehurst.
Nearly all of their brunch menu is delicious, but a particular standout is the duck eggs with chorizo which is incredibly moreish. Other options include a variety of sweet options (like pancakes and french toast) as well as fry-ups.
The drinks they have on offer are equally good, with the smoothies and milkshakes being very comforting (especially if you're nursing a hangover!).
The staff are great, although the venue itself is a bit small if eating inside so if it is busy it can feel slightly cramped; well worth it for the food though!
I was on the lookout for a new brunch place and am really glad I found this gem! There is a fab diverse menu with the usual favourites and some house dishes with character. The most generous amount of gluten and dairy options (for both food and drinks) I’ve seen in Reading. Really pleasant staff, I came in at a time there was a rush of people and the service was excellent. I definitely recommend - although get in there at a quiet time as it’s quite a small venue for this quality of food!
A cafe gem serving high quality food to a wide set of customers in a relaxed atmosphere: Seemed very busy, the majority of inside tables occupied even late morning on a drizzly Thursday.

Lovely little cafe, friendly staff, fast service and the food is to die for - really nice presentation, great portion size and super yummy. What more can you ask for? Definitely will be making many a return visit.
This was the best breakfast I've had! I had the duck eggs and chorizo on sourdough and my partner and I split a loaded hash browns. I had a "yellow one" smoothie too and every last bite was unbelievably delicious. If you love breakfast, you HAVE to try this place!
