Been trying to get here to try the food for a while and finally made it this weekend for lunch on Saturday. Really nice atmosphere and friendly welcome, normal menu had plenty of choice but the specials menu was really good. The smoked salmon scotch egg was amazing!! Had a really lovely meal for two, service was good and for a good price. Will definitely be back to try more dishes.

I have been coming to Heron on The Ford for many years, as it’s my local & it’s situated in a beautiful location right by a Ford. We always walk to the pub as it’s only 15minutes away. Great for kids to use their chosen mode of transport for the short distance as the roads around the pub location is fairly quite. Heron on the Ford has plenty of free parking to the rear as well as to the front. The rear parking area is gated with access only during opening hours. The pub upgraded the seating area to the rear including an added play area for the kids just over a year ago which makes this a key visit for me during the summer. Nothing beats a nice cold beer outside in the sunshine with the little ones happily playing along in the gated playground 👌 The inside is has a cosy and relaxed atmosphere with very nice touch to the decor. The food is brilliant, quick service and tastes lovely. The change of hands a few years ago has defiantly made an impact to quality of food served Good clean facilities also. Highly recommend a visit as after the food and drink a nice walk to the Ford to watch any brave drivers spear through the stream is always fun to watch.

This is a very very nice place. The food is fantastic, and there is real ale on tap (kept very well, by the way. Not overly expensive. Attentive table service. Highly recommended.

Nice place, food took over an hour to come but it was a Sunday although we weren’t made aware of this before seating, we had also pre booked. Food was nice once it came, spent about £90 for three people.. 2 roasts a steak and 2 drinks each. Would come back but would like to be informed of wait times.

Looking for somewhere new to have lunch decided on here. We weren't disappointed. Had cod & chips . Lovely light batter and excellent service. We'll be back ! I loved my half pint glass of beer too

Spent a sunny Friday evening at this beautiful, quaint, country pub. The menu is out of this world and the food is really good quality. A lovely way to while away a hours in the countryside.

The food was delicious and great portion sizes. Very accommodating for my dog and given a table with plenty of space for him. We’ll be back, thank you 🥰

I messaged in advance asking for a change to their menu as I have a lot of food allergies and they were so accommodating and helpful, the food was absolutely AMAZING! great atmosphere and a lovely spot to spend a late summers evening. Thank you so much for accommodating our allergies, it was so lovely to be able to join my husband (which I can’t usually) to celebrate his birthday. We will definitely be back! 😊

Very pleasant service and the chef paid attention to our dietary requests. The food was very nice; would like to see some small portion or more if the lighter dishes on the menu. Overall friendly, charming and a pleasant environment

Nice place, visited to meet up with a bunch of cyclists at a lunchtime meet. Snack lunch (very tasty) was roast beef panini. Very nice, but the beef needs to be cut up more finely, or get yourself razor sharp dentures! It was very nice but perhaps a steak knife would improve the situation. Go for it, but find a sharp knife!

There's little better than being sat outside in the beautiful garden at the Heron on The Ford on a sunny day - improved only by ordering some of their lovely food. I had their delicious "Beyond" burger - and, unlike many veggie burgers, it really didn't leave you feeling short changed. Great bar service. A lovely local pub.

Decent pub, not too expensive for a pint. The interior is lovely and very reminiscent of an old fashioned good English pub. Could be 5 stars if only they served Stella (had to get a Fosters). Toilets were clean and even had a map of all the pubs in Reading inside. Overall it's a lovely pub in a great location. I would highly recommend this pub.

Excellent menu choices, we four had two different and very good fish dishes, and a good veg and vegan choice too. Puddings are delish, the setting very nice, we started outside but got chilly so went in for dessert. Very pleasant staff and efficient service. A but pricey, but worth it!

Loved this pub, great location and lots of tables inside and out. It is a very old building and kept so well to bring out the old charm it has. The staff were very friendly and there was a well stocked bar. We didn't eat but many people were which shows its good! It doesn't have a massive car park and definitely caters for dog walkers with bowls of water outside.

The food used to be average, at best, in past years. Food is now consistently EXCELLENT, and decent value. Daniel, our server -like the rest of the staff, was attentive, friendly, and efficient -which is all too rare these days. Credit must go to the management. Well done everyone at the HotF 👍👍👍👍👍

We were visiting friends and they took us for a spot of lunch. Lovely quaint feel to the place. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day so sat outside at one of the many outdoor tables. Decent choice of food and there was a good range of gluten free options if thats a must. Food was very tasty and was served quickly. Didnt see much of the inside but it struck me as the type of place that had that lovely cosy feel when the weather takes a turn. Dog friendly and plenty of parking. Definitely worthy of a visit.
