Friendly staff and very good food. The majority of the menu is homemade with generous servings and perfectly cooked. Great little oldy worldy pub with a good atmosphere. Would recommend it for any day of the week.
Food is fantastic, never fails to surprise us. Would recommend this pub to everyone :)
Had a great meal there today at short notice on Mother’s Day. Generous properly cooked food and such a friendly atmosphere 2nd visit there will be more when I am in the area. Love it.
A perfect place to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. I love it here with its Lovely atmosphere and great staff. The bar snacks were a great addition! Roast potatoes and caramelised sausages were a firm fave.
My veggie curry was nice, as was the young waitress, very polite. I personally(,as I adore all animals) didn't like the decor, which included framed fish & other animal heads/ parts on the wall. Very old pub, very traditional. Place mats were of hunting scenes, ( not good),with hunting bugles attached to very old lovely timber beams. I wouldn't go back, simply because of seeing stuffed animals everywhere. Very uncomfortable for me....I should have researched first. Apart from this, it's a lovely old pub!!!
Lovely meal with good choice of menu for lunchtime. Very friendly staff. Must go again.
My first visit the ale was excellent and a good choice, food very good and the staff were great. Will be back.
A lovely old english pub with great staff and tasty food
Nice friendly pub. Good value tasty food. Great cask ales as well. Really great place will deffo visit again when next in Reading.
The food was excellent. Tasty chicken curry. Generous portions. Delicious home made bread and butter pudding and spotted dick. Pies looked good. Friendly good service.
1st time here. Very friendly and great food. Couldn't fault it.
Very friendly and accommodating. The pub had stopped serving food, but the land lady still cooked us some even though she was the only one on duty at the time!
What an excellent place. You must visit this authentic pub
Good local pub on two sides with great food and great ale. Visit many times over the years and it's always consistent. Decent sized car park and amusing plaques in the loo! May be at few accessibility issues due to the age of the building. Chilli burger and sausages are superb!
Very welcoming and charming old character pub with old style decor to match. Food is served in good time and is what I call great comfort food. There is plenty of parking and split rooms to choose from, one more of a traditional quieter salon and the other a more open bar.
Very old pub with good beer and great pub-favourite food. Ample parking. Friendly staff, my wife was swapping recipes with the chef by the end of lunch. Very convenient location, near J11 of the M4, but in a small village. Will definitely go again.
True independent with fantastic food and coffee. Best coleslaw on earth. Relaxed atmosphere of a traditional pub with great staff.
Loads of parking and large outdoors eating area with free wi-fi. Dog friendly.
Lovely pub with a great selection of beer. The food is very good with hearty portions. Has a room that you can book it you want to discuss books, knitting or anything else in peace..
Stopped in on way back from badminton horse trials m. This a very friendly family pub that catered for children and dogs. The bar maid brought my dog a bowl of water to the table. Food wise you can’t wrong value for money I had sausage in a baguette the sausage alone was a foot long and an inch thick very scrumpy

Love the service and the food. Jenny makes the best Irish stew outside of Ireland and her cheesy chips with chili mayo are lush! Also love that the London Irish fans are welcomed.
Lovely well kept old fashioned pub with lots of wonderfully kept cask conditioned real ales. Don't come here if you want modern or posh or upmarket however if you're after a proper public house with real nice bar staff and beer kept at its best then this is the place for you!
Best pub in and around Reading. Proper home cooked food, great service, and real friendly atmosphere like the old days in pubs were. This place is a little hidden gem.
All the food is homemade, the people are very friendly, the atmosohere is very cosy and the choice of real ales and craft cider is quite impressive. All in all a very welcoming public house.
Reasonably priced quality pub food, 3 or 4 ales, large outside area, with great foliage, lovely ad traditional
Great traditional pub. Friendly staff. A bit old fashioned but that's part of its charm.
The food was fantastic staff wonderful really made to feel welcome best meal out I've had for a long time.If I could give more than 5 stars I would.
Very friendly kind and helpful landlady. She accommodated us for a meeting then straight on to a Christmas lunch which was very nice.
