I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally got round to it. We had the friendliest welcome and service I think I've ever experienced. The food is absolutely top tier. Thank you for a great evening, will see you again soon.
I can't tell you about the rooms but the food is absolutely gorgeous. I had the most delicious Sunday roast there yesterday. I will never cook a Sunday roast again. My own can't beat it.
First time visiting here, had a meal steak and ale pie, absolutely gorgeous, I couldnhave drank the gravy by the pint. Lovey little pub quite busy, nice atmosphere and the owner landlord was brilliant seemd to ran ragged seeing to every customer in the pub. Will definitely be visiting again, next time I visit my sister. Thank you
My wife and I just called in at the Black Bull on spec while travelling up north on the A19 on Sunday lunch time. It was showing up on the sat nav as somewhere to eat, nearby.
The landlord said he was fully booked and had already turned down 250 bookings for that weekend, but if we didn't mind a bit of a wait, a table was coming free and he could squeeze us in.
The pub was very pleasant and an obvious attraction for many locals.
The landlord and staff were friendly and very attentive; the food was excellent!
It was well worth the wait, I can see why this is such a successful & popular pub.

Excellent Sunday lunch. All meat very local. A stunning nut roast alternative.
Very highly recommend if you're looking for a traditional, comfy & cosy, well furnished pub serving quality local produce.
Sunday lunch on Easter Sunday was amazing. Delicious food, generous portions, friendly staff, a well run establishment.
Turning into our local. Amazingly friendly bar staff and landlord. Wonderful Sunday lunches!
A brilliant pub, great drinks, classic interior with open fires, and excellent food with a comprehensive choice and selection of dishes.
Very nice and friendly staff, top quality food and drinks, nothing to dislike about the place.
Booked here for a meal 18/02/23.
This is a very traditional North Yorkshire pub and something of a rare gem. A super welcome from Kevin the landlord (owner) and his bar staff sets the tone and vibe for this pub, very attentive and the feeling that nothing is too much trouble; the open fire adds to the sense of welcome and tradition. A great selection of beers etc are on offer given the compact size and then a good gastro style menu, which is not over complicated, provides for a very tempting list of dishes - starters, mains and puddings plus the specials of the day, today included lamb shank.
The food does not disappoint. Yorkshire portions with the quality of a good class restaurant are the result. Kevin is an energetic and passionate landlord who is uber keen to offer excellent value to his customers, at prices that are affordable to more people. There is no skimping on any aspect of the menu or service that comes with it. The three of us thoroughly enjoyed the whole pub and grub experience here, having good banter with the landlord, exactly as it should be. Even if you just want to come in for a pint, the welcome and engagement is exactly the same. We have found our new favourite local pub and will become regular customers. Sunday lunch will be our next venture. Highly commended and deserving of the great reviews already given for this venue.
