We booked a table in advance, but arrived earlier than antispated. They were very welcoming and were able to seat us earlier. The pub/restaurant gives of a modern but perfect traditional British pub feel. We were sorted with drinks and food very quickly. They had kids menus with good options and the food was a very good portion too. I had the carvery and I can say it has definitely lived up to the expectations that were shared on here. The homemade cauliflower cheese was emotional, all the meats cooked to perfection. Nice fresh potatoes, a good range of nice fresh sauces too. Absolutely amazing. The desserts were also absolutely fantastic. Toilets are lovely and clean also. Will happily come back
A quick stop on way back to camp, they couldn't accommodate us but had a table for us with an hour's wait, we were happy to wait.
The wait is definitely worth it!!!!! The roast is out of this world! Cauliflower cheese is so much better than any carvery I've been to!!!
We were well served and all with smiles even though I could tell they were a bit stressed serving multiple people but still had a smile on their face!
Paid a visit to the ladies and they had a lovely touch to the women's needs - a basket with sanitary products and baby wipes for those who get caught out (I know I have done in the past!)
Free WiFi which is a bonus to my Husband's delight so he can check the football ⚽️ hahaha.
Couldn't finish my dinner and asked to take the chicken left overs home and they wrapped it like a bag - loved the cute touch to it.
I'll definitely come back on our next visit to Cornwall.
Many many thanks for hosting us.
Lovely little gem of a place in Penryn, Cornwall! I've been coming to Cornwall for a few years now and when choosing our meal for the last night, we knew we wanted it to be fresh, local, homemade food. When we came across The Halfway House and looked at the menu, we knew we'd be in for a treat! The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was delicious! Great job team! Highly recommended!
We reached late in evening & just had few drinks , as no food was available on late Sunday evening… but great family atmosphere… lots of families enjoying drinks & games …
Went for the carvery today and so glad we did.. Absolutely worth it in every respect. Staff are lovely and the food was delicious, best value for money we've seen in a long time. Wish we could have sampled dessert but there was no room left in our bellies !! We'll be back again and will definitely recommend it to family and friends, in fact I already have 😉

Just met my aunt for some supper, which we always do when she visits Cornwall, and this time was the halfway house that we ate at.
Food most enjoyable, service excellent and a very pleasant atmosphere, we will probably come again, and will recommend anyone to eat here.
A definite 5 stars.
Thank you
Just had lunch here. They do a deal with a drink for a pound if bought with a lunch meal but we pushed the boat out and had main meal each. Very tasty and reasonably priced.
Clean, quiet enviroment, attentive staff. Good range on the bar. Female toilets really clean but horrible small wafting from the mens none-stop.
BLT was a bit sad- no butter, bacon very crispy, very little tomato. Small amount chips. All deserts were awesome👌 thanks
I live locally and visited yesterday for the first time since recently changing hands and had a pork Tomahawk steak with all the trimmings and a chimichurri sauce. It was insanely good and really good value.
The steak was two and a half inches thick (honestly, it was), Seared on the outside and juicy and tender inside. Two delicious roasted tomatoes, fries, mushrooms and watercress salad. It was clear that care had been taken to serve that dish beautifully and to top it off the front of house staff are really welcoming and attentive always with a smile and a kind word.
I would highly recommend to anyone travelling south west to Cornwall this year!
PS - I highly recommend the Sticky toffee pudding for dessert.
Excellent value for money. Superb carvery. Vegetarian options. Staff very helpful and so kind to our dogs.
Carvery was fantastic. Lovely food and great service, the new owners have made a huge improvement to the pub. Definitely going back for the carvery.
