Superb pub, not been in it for 20 years or so. It was packed on a Tuesday evening and I couldn't get in the car park. This alone shows me the quality. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great.

Hidden away in a beautiful corner of the south downs, the white lion is a wonderful oldy worldly pub with great food and great service. Excellent rare roast beef, I would heartily recommend it. Mine was fantastic and I really enjoyed it (I believe that it is only served on a Sunday though) The pub itself is very old, well decorated and quite interesting inside. The staff were all pleasant, friendly and helpful during our visit. Booking is advisable in case it's busy.

My partner and I came in today for lunch, and thankfully you found us a table. Wow! It was fabulous 10 out of 10. The best pumpkin soup ( as good as in Oz) and we had the beef short rib which was delicious, served with creamed purée of potato and hisbi cabbage. We didn’t expect the mains to be so large, so also ordered the courgette fries and chunky chips, which we definitely didn’t need 😂 Thank you for the excellent meal.

The pubs open again! We missed it and it’s back better than ever. Great food and local traditional pub feel.

Found this place by accident during a road journey. A traditional pub that is now essentially a restaurant although it does retain a bar in one of the three room, so if you just fancy a beer that's possible too. Food is clearly restaurant quality and a long way away from traditional 'pub-grub' and is reflected in the prices! Having said that, my wife and I we very satisfied with our lunch here.

Amazing friendly and helpful staff. Managed to get in for a Sunday lunch at quite short notice, we were very lucky! The food was excellent, nice medium rare beef with large Yorkshire pudding and plenty of sides. Great beer garden and very old, atmospheric building.

Absolutely rate the setting and staff, couldn’t fault; however was disappointed with the food, both starters and mains were below average… not great… fed most to our dogs. Staff incredible and will still come for drinks and French fries.

Id tried to go to this pub a number of times during COVID but it often seemed to be closed but now it is fully open. We had a meal and the food was really excellent. Pubs often seem to offer quite ambitious food that I think it is bought in pre-prepared and turns out disappointing. But I'm certain this was prepared from scratch and tasted excellent. We walked cross country from Warminghurst Church which makes an excellent walk.

A traditional pub not easily found but well worth the trouble. Very good food menu and not extensive but good and well priced wine list. Great choice of beers. Really friendly service. Good sized car park but can get busy as difficult to park in The Street Recommend booking if going for an evening meal.

We came for a late lunch and ordered the wagyu burger, haddock arancini and southern fried chicken, all of which were delicious! Also got a chocolate chip cookie which was freshly baked - we will be back for the sausage rolls as they smelled and looked amazing. Also a note to say the service here is fantastic - everyone is so kind and attentive. We had to actually leave right after our food came out due to one of our party feeling suddenly unwell and everyone helped to pack our meal up for us - huge thanks to the staff for their care!

We are very lucky to have this place, its beer especially, its food, its open fireplaces, its atmosphere, outstanding staff and wonderful owners. My wife & I decided to visit The White Lion Inn in Thakeham over the Easter weekend instead of our usual Pub | Restaurant in Findon. We loved the whole experience and now have a new destination. The whole team have established a wonderful Sussex venue with a warm welcome from lovely people who obviously care deeply about what they do. Outstanding food from a well thought through Menu was thoroughly enjoyed by both of us only next time we'll leave some room for a desert. Without doubt this quality establishment is a clear winner and I would encourage anyone to make a booking as you will be pleased you did. Thanks to the team for fitting us in especially as our booking was a little bit last minute. Bravo & good luck to the owners who have created something quite special. Duncan & Lindsay Armstrong
