Popped in whilst working in the area, ordered the Lite Bite fish, chips and curry sauce, £4.50, great value and the food was delicious, chips are some of the nicest I've had in a long while, the fish was a good size and spicy curry sauce complimented it well.
Only had to wait a short while for the fish, gentleman who served was pleasant so all in all a good experience fora first visit, local residents are very lucky to have a great, traditional chippy in the area, I'll definitely be back.
Fish and chip shop's are a UK tradition and this place really holds true to those traditional values associated with a well run shop. It's a staple, the best fish and chip's around and a Walton le-dale icon in our view. We see the interaction they have on Facebook with their customers with a view to always improve and applaud them in every aspect. Check the opening times and make sure you order in advance if you are busy because there's a reason this place often has queues running out the door.

Best fish and chips I've had in years. Chips were crispy and fluffy and the batter on the fish was light and crispy
This is our go to chippy, the fish is huge its like free willy on your plate and cheaper than most places. All portion sizes are fab. Great food great prices great staff ill never go anywhere else.
Absolutely loved tea tonight!! It was so fresh and tasty! We had the mushy pea fritters, hash browns, onion rings, chips and the curry sauces. It all went down a treat! My recommendation is mushy pea fritters with curry sauce on top... Amazing! Great, friendly service too!
This is one place that has maintained food quality and portion size over the years.
They've not cheaped out by reducing the food quality or reducing the portions to keep up with the inflation and as expected, increased prices fairly.
I must say this took me back a few years to the great food that you could get anywhere, but it's quite rare these days.
Highly recommend this place and don't get put off by the prices as it's well worth it.

Visited tonight. I am very satisfied. Although I must mention, I walked in, granted the shop was full at the time, but 3 to 4 minutes later another gent walked in and was served before me. Not a massive issue as I don't mind but having an allergy to cod this could have left me without a fish had the shop been low an the other man ordered haddock. But by the by, I asked the gentleman who I assume is the owner /manager, to mark my order as I have allergies. Straight away instructed his staff to make sure this was done. This guy knows his stuff an how to run his business. I was engaged in conversation, I ordered scampi he offered a complimenting condiment which didn't even cross my mind, but thoroughly enjoyed.
Just before receiving my order he leaned over to his staff an asked if everything for my order was accounted for, his staff confirmed, he then pointed out my haddock was still not wrapped up. This guy is on the ball. I think his staff should put a little bit more effort into the business as he pays their wages. One customer next to me asked if they had a busy night, the girls are obviously shy, the lady then asked "do you talk? Have you had a busy night?" "yes" then giggled amongst themselves. I'm not complaining about this. Just more constructive feedback.
All in all a very good Chippy. The backbone of the nation. I 100 percent recommend this Chippy. The fish are huge. The chip portions are good. I got a regular and couldn't finish it. I saw a review saying the large chips wasn't big enough..... I think someone is just greedy and wants to stuff their face beyond recognition. My local chippy is same price for fish. The fish from the contented sole are like 2 fillets from my local. I'm actually ready for a nap after that feed. See you next Friday.
A great chippy - really tasty, high quality food, service with a smile and very good prices. The specials are a nice touch too. I won't go anywhere else now I've tried The Contented Sole!

Lovely food. Had the pollock which was delish. Chips were very nice and fluffy and soft which I love. Only criticism is the mushy peas aren't mushy peas they are processed peas which don't really work
Really enjoyed tea from the contented sole tonight. Our local chippy had a dip, so drive a bit further and always wanted to try here - wasn't disappointed. Nice fish, plenty of chips - had 3 large chips for a family of 4 but ended up not using 1.
Great chippy but I wish it was open more often
I have just started using this chippy and can hand on heart say they are the best chips I have ever had from a chippy. Double cooked chips!!! I love a chippy so I know what I am talking about. I wont be going anywhere else from now on.
