Went for a birthday meal with friends and I wasn't disappointed. Service is really good staff are very Friendly and attentive and the food was fabulous! I had the surf and turf to start then the beef skewers, the beef was so tender it just melted in my mouth. Lots of gin to choose from too. Try it, i'm sure you will be back, I know will be!
I was looking for a place locally that was a bit different. I came across the mad hunter but to be fair i had not heard of it. I had a quick look at the menu and i was already drooling lol. Anyhow my sister and her partner were down from Scotland and he is a chef too.
From the moment we walked in to walking out we were made to feel incredibly welcome. Oliver was on point and was eager to explain about the menu.
The food was excellent in all respects, one of the best experiences i have had in a long time. I heartily recommend you book in and try it for yourself. You most certainly will not be disappointed. Its small and cosy but the decor is tastefully done. Great to see such talent in our area.
Great atmosphere, friendly & knowledgeable staff, interesting menu and fabulous tasting food! Can’t wait to go back and this time tackle the cocktail on the desert menu!

Absolutely fantastic. Ollie was a great host and had lots of top info about our food and drink. The menu had a good selection on it and I will be looking forward to going back to try some specials and the chefs table evening. I had the Wild Boar Burger which was exceptional as was the rest of the food we ate. All in in was a lovely evening with amazing food and service in a great restaurant with perfect ambience. Couldn't be better.
We have visited many times.
The food and service is excellent. Menus change frequently which means there is always something new to try .
Ollie is a fantastic host. Cannot recommend the mad hunter enough .... a must try.
Went there Saturday 24th February for a family celebration. We were welcomed at the door and our coats taken. Sat down with the menu and the guy (sorry forgotten his name) came over to help us decide on our drinks. Explained all about the amazing selection of gins. I had the recommended one with ginger ale and it was delicious. Helped us choose the wine which was only the house wine but it was really good. All of us had 3 courses and the food was really good, so nice to have different things on the menu. Will vist again. X
It was our first visit last night but it was faultless. A warm welcome awaited us before we looked at the amazing menu. The food was exceptional and cooked to perfection. We drank a bottle of the house white wine which was lovely as recommended by Oliver. Oliver's knowledge of wines is complimented by the high standard of food offered. A little gem and we will definitely be back
Had a gorgeous Mother’s Day lunch today! We all had a great time, fabulous food & Oli looked after us really well. Will recommend The Mad Hunter to all!!
Myself and Mr G enjoyed a splendid evening, last night, at The Mad Hunter Chefs Special Night. The food was truly excellent, creative and delicious and the wine pairings were fantastic! Thank you to Oliver and Travis for such a wonderful night, oh and the complimentary glass of fizz on arrival to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary was a lovely touch!
Called in today for lunch. Such a lovely place. Excellent food and service. Spoilt for choice with the great menu, will definitely be returning to try more.
Fantastic little gem of a place!! Great tasting food, lovely wine and a fantastic host!! Everyone in our party enjoyed it from age 3 to 91!! We’ll definitely be back-thank you!!
Amazing place, small but cosy atmosphere, make sure to book in advance. Fantastic friendly service, our waiter Oliver was the very enthusiastic and explained all the dishes clearly and was a great help. The food was excellent and creative! Food for the adventurous, exotic meats like kangaroo zebra ostrich boar and crocodile depending on the season. Bit on the pricey side but quality and taste of food is definitely worth every penny!
We also came again for the chefs menu for the middle eastern theme and the food was extremely tasty and just the right sized portions. The dip selection and the charred cauliflower dishes were delicious and we really liked the orange sorbet for dessert. We will definitely be visiting again, so highly recommended to all foodies!!
Can't fault this experience one bit! All of the food was superb! Spring rolls and bread were lovely and the ribs and the zebra steak were both perfect! Definitely one we'll revisit next time we're anywhere near the area. 10 out of 10 would recommend!
Tried this small intimate restaurant on a whim for a birthday meal. So glad we did South African themed with unusual food on the menu ( take a look on the website)
Every dish was superb visually and exploded with flavours. The staff being very knowledgeable and friendly made for a fabulous dining experience as Danny would say on Rate My Takeaway (although they don’t do takeaway) I can only give it a solid 10.
First time trying South African food and it was amazing! The chef really knows how to cook, everything was cooked to perfection and packed with flavour. There are even exotic meats on the menu if you're feeling adventurous. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Lancashire.
Fabulous lunch at The Mad Hunter today. Very friendly staff in a lovely environment. The food however was the star of the show. The beef short rib was very tasty and the wild boar burger was a hearty feast. Each dish was intelligently done and I'd highly recommend this restaurant.
A wonderful experience. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, giving recommendations about the menu and cocktails. There are lots of options on the food menu, with either small plate versions for a tapas style dining out or big plates for the main course. We had the Kangaroo steak with sweet potato fries. What a delight! Nice and soft, unlike any other steak I've had. Dessert was fantastic too as we tried the pineapple fritter and the crème brulee. Highly recommended, looking forward to booking a trip back there again.
Such a great experience!
Staff:
So friendly and happy! Made us happy.
Food:
Was sooooo good as you can see. We had three different dishes and none of us had any negative comments. My friend had a cauliflower started which was so good apparently. They have a very unique menu with so many interesting things.
My dish lovely. Chicken cooked to perfection & the sauce, omg! My made had some of my chicken sauce and she lovvved it too. Everything was freshly made
Dessert:
Ok where do I start from?? We all ordered the same one: it us called something “Melk” can’t remember the whole name, but it is in the pictures here. I am always very fussy about desserts, but this one was a spot on! This was the best dessert I have ever had in my life. I rarely say that by the way. 😂 The sponge was baked in heaven and soaked in a something which I honestly don’t know. But the meringue and apricot flavour and orange flavour, everything come together nicely. Right amount of everything. The portion was ok but I would have been happier with a bigger one. The small portions font make me happy. All in all Try this one and you will know why I am so into it.
Cleanliness:
Very clean - nothing to comment on.
Price:
Compared to the quality of the food, it is fair and reasonable. We should have left a tip really but we did not have enough cash on us.
Experience:
The whole experience was great. I am definitely going back,
Loved this place! Not only was the food exotic and unusual, but it was very well cooked and well presented. The building itself is cosy and nicely decorated. The kangaroo steak was lovely and tender and served with a delicious sauce and unusual but tasty vegetable mix. Will definitely be going back.
Went here for our anniversary was very welcoming ,nice small restaurant, staff are very knowledgeable and passionate about the food , enjoyed every mouthful and spent less than I anticipated, can't recommend it highly enough
Went to celebrate Mother's Day and was very impressed. A lovely cosy atmosphere was immediately apparent upon opening the door where we were greeted by a friendly, exuberant host. Although we were a little early and the table wasn't ready, we were seated quickly and without fuss. The host was knowledgeable, informing us of menu recommendations and drinks on offer. A pint of draft Italian Morena lager and a glass of Cape Heights Shiraz were enjoyed. The Mother's Day 3 course menu was chosen and thoroughly enjoyed. Falafel to start, roast lamb for main and the prune and amereto cheesecake for dessert couldn't be faulted. An Espresso Martini finished off a beautiful meal, served by friendly staff able to chat effortlessly without over staying their welcome. We will definitely be visiting again, maybe for one of their 5 course "meet the chef" nights.
