This is a great club at the heart of Southsea with friendly welcoming highly professional staff, fabulous live music, fantastic setting, décor and atmosphere, and a great selection of cocktails. In short, it's a fabulous jazz club!

The most incredible experience I've had in Portsmouth. Finding the Prohibition is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Me and my friend was walking along the beach feeling lost about where to go for a drink, we determined that Portsmouth has a lot of pubs and clubs which is just not comfortable for us anymore. Clubs are too much energy, and pubs have been rinsed out of any soul or passion only purposed for convenience. We looked online on my phone for "jazz bars" and was advertised moonshine nightclub & prohibition bar. We was going to go home and drink there instead but we decided to be adventerous. We stumbled upon the bar, and felt curious and uncertain if we actually found the place. Being difficult to find; we eventually walked in through the door and down the steps realising we found our first genuine speak easy. I'll spare the details of what the place looked like as you should experience it yourself, I will only say that the decor is genuinely authentic and indistinguishable to a 1920s lounge. The night was filled with laughs and passion. We spoke to Alex the cocktail master as we went through the entire menu. He explained to us drink by drink about how he made it, what he made it with, what inspired him and the history of how he got his ideas. He truly is an incredible person to meet, clearly destined for success due to his unrelenting passion for bartending! The staff are really lovely and just as passionate, the chef made our charcuterie and came out to say hello with a big grin on her face, and we chat plenty with "loz" a charismatic lady who made us laugh and helped me and my friend feel like we could express ourselves. We felt like we were home being well looked after by close friends. The cocktails are expensive but it is utterly paramount to note that the cocktails are not over-priced, but in fact are under-priced. To have the chance to experience something that is meticulously made with love and passion, untouched by the restrictions of the demographic is a rare commodity. I will cherish and support this establishment for years to come!

Best bottomless brunch in Portsmouth! Syncs amazing energy from all the staff and overall vibe. Can’t wait to go back for a different event soon!

Before moonshine the only place in Pompey to escape the hell that is commercial clubbing music was concrete Thursdays or indie night at dockyard. I just hope uni kids don’t take it over

What an amazing transformation of this club! The sound system is immense! Love the basement and the atmosphere it creates with that Void system!! Playing that room is a joy!! Never had a bad night in there ! The owners are a great bunch of lads that have definitely put The Moonshine club on the map!! The staff are on point , the drinks and food are amazing and the choice of nights they supply are top draw! Great to see superstar Djs and promoters from all over the world coming to play and returning !! That says alot ! Go check it out ! DJ Tony Broad

Sometimes you can have a good night in there, other times it's rubbish, floor gets slippy! Do a variety of music 🎵 which is nice but prefer Prohibition nights to upstairs !

Excellent venue. Great to see this place with a new lease of life and getting it right. Brilliant mix of events, reasonably priced and truly providing Portsmouth with fantastic and regular shows. If you haven’t been- the mid week Prohibition comedy show is great, featuring comics with all levels of ability (all very entertaining) and eat as much as you like wings!

The best sound system on the south coast, friendly staff and quality of the cocktails is impeccable. The music from Thursday night to well known acts and underground artist on Saturday makes a great change for the scene of Portsmouth. Something for every age range and quality is of production and show is like no other in Portsmouth.

I cannot help but think these 1 star reviews are disingenuous and wrote by people who have never visited the venue. It appears there are people more concerned about tarnishing a new venues reputation over showing genuine community support. This venue is incredible for what it brings to Portsmouth. Many young aspiring musicians have already passed through the doors and had a chance to showcase their talent. The security are on point, the venue is impressive, the staff know what they’re doing and are polite. What more could you ask for from a venue!

Wow what a quality night I had last night! On a Wednesday we decided to go to a comedy night we heard was on at the Prohibition bar in Southsea - it was a great night out. The comedians were funny as F, the food was on point and the bar décor was like a 1920's underground Prohibition bar - this venue does all sorts so we will defiantly be checking out their other events!! Would recommend

Unreal atmosphere! Friendly staff and all round class venue. Go here regularly and always had an amazing time. From jazz nights to drum & bass nights. They've got the lot.

First time at moonshine nightclub last Saturday for Ben Hemsley 4th February 🕺🕺 Great venue, sound system is insane 😍 The search before entry is thorough which is good, and makes me feel a lot safe within the venue, The drinks prices are on the the more pricy side but still okay, bar service quick also 🍻 all staff are friendly and welcoming Great night all around and also the lighting is sick also and being a capacity of a sold out crowd of 500 the vibes were great and makes it more of an Intermet venue Something to improve on is invest in some AC because it became like a sweat box and the toilet facilities need to be a bit bigger for the amount of people And the Han dryer needs to be fixed But these things just a few to improve on and I can see this being the best venue in portsmouth by far🕺🕺 I’ll defo be back🙃
