Hidden gem in Portsmouth. After Nara Sushi closed down, my partner was really disappointed that we couldn't go there anymore. We decided to order from this place online once, and it turned out to be great. After we decided to go in there for lunch, It's a true hole-in-the-wall spot! The food is fantastic, and we absolutely loved the interior design. The homemade tea and milk tea were exceptionally delicious. Thank you; we will definitely be returning.
Very cool place to hang out. Nice decorations, healthy and tasty food. The staff is always very polite and kind. A great experience overall. Me and my friend have been coming to your restaurant over the last 2 years and we can honestly and openly recommend it to anyone.
すごい ! An incredible experience. Beautiful restaurant with sublime food and wonderful staff, would 1000% recommend to anyone with an interest in Japanese food and culture. Counting down the days until I can visit again for takoyaki! UPDATE: Went back again, still as amazing as the other times I've been. Cannot recommend it enough.
Amazing sushi, some of the best I've ever had. Staff are friendly and the authentic Japanese style is a very nice touch!
Surprisingly authentic! Great ambience, gorgeous food, reasonably priced and welcoming staff. We've tried their set menu for two people and that allowed us to try a bit of many specialties. You can't go wrong, we are definitely popping back!
Fantastic Japanese restaurant my partner and I chanced upon today. Our server Chelsea was quite friendly and accommodating and got us a seat (despite not having made previous reservations) at one of those booths with low tables where you have to take your shoes off and sit on futton cushions to eat.
Food was excellent and well worth the price paid. For starters, we had chili and garlic endemame that were fresh and seemed like it was picked out of a back garden. For the mains, the chicken tori katsu was light and crispy and the curry sauce it was bathed in was thick and very tasty. The unagi was covered in light flavourful teriyaki sauce and was grilled to perfection. It also came with miso soup which I appreciated this chilly day.
Overall, my partner and I had a lovely time and will definitely come back in the future to try the sushi and ramen.
Lovely staff, atmosphere and the best ramen my boyfriend and I have ever eaten. We come here regularly and will always think of the restaurant as a special place. Please visit if you have the chance!!! :)
Wow! First time here. Just got a takeaway for lunch. Opted for the Unagi (eel) and deep fried soft shell crab. Both were outstanding. Best I've had by far. Crab was juicy on a little bed of cabbage, carrot and sesame seeds. Eel was smoky and soft on a little pillow of sticky rice and beautifully presented. It's fairly pricey but as an occasional treat, absolutely superb. Beyond anything you'll get in a supermarket. I finished off just stuffing the ginger doused in soy and wasabi!
Food is delicious and definitely worth the price. Beef Ramen and Tuna Sashimi pictures attached
Edit:
Had to go back a second time it was so good. This time I had the beef gyu donburi, (which was the best beef I've ever tasted), as well as some chicken gyoza. I've also attached an image of my friends tako yaki as well.
This is a great sushi place if you want to weeb out. Rather than focusing they have instead give for a broad menu selection from sashimi to hand rolls to bento or donburi and a bunch of street food. The atmosphere makes for good photos with plenty of booths.
Really strong mid tier Japanese option with broad selection. Diversity is the game, except for their sake.
Absolutely stunningly decorated resturant. Cozy, intimate, and very atmospheric.
The food is 10/10 weve been there multiple times and have never been let down.
Tastiest Japanese food I've ever had.
Please please if you get the opportunity, you won't be dissapointed
Okay I have to say this is the most unique japanese food experience I have had in the UK for the last 10 years.
The service was excellent and very friendly,
The food was beyond amazing,
And the atmosphere was gorgeous.
Thank you so much for a gorgeous evening and food ♡♡♡
Stumbled upon this place, don't let the outside deceive you. Really authentic restaurant with attentive staff and delicious food. Seated booths around the perimeter with space to remove shoes. Only minor comment, music slightly loud but it was a quiet evening so with more people in its probably a none issue. Would recommend!
Having to walk up a flight of stairs to get into the place, you wouldn't expect much, but those initial expectations were quickly proved wrong. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, from the artificial sakura petals near the booths, to the Great Wave Off Kanagawa printed on the screen separating the eat in area from the kitchen.
I asked to sit down in a booth, which was comprised of a tatami mat and cushions to sit down on, with a little box off to the side to store my shoes in. As I ate, a mixture of different Japanese music genres played. (I managed to recognise Dango Daikazoku from Clannad)
I ordered jasmine tea, tuna nigiri, and the salmon bento box. (Named bento 3) If I had to criticize any part of the meal, it would have been the nigiri, which arrived as a starter. I was unable to taste the sushi vinegar at all, leaving me to believe that it may not have been properly seasoned. The fish, however, was perfect. Beautifully tender and full of natural flavour!
Shortly after finishing starter came the bento. It came with two pieces of grilled salmon, rice, seaweed, miso soup, tuna & salmon sashimi, and a few little extras like some more ginger to work as a pallet cleanser. The salmon was cooked to perfection with just enough of a sear on it before such a fairly thin slice dries up, and the sashimi was just as good as on the sushi I had earlier. As I was about three quarters done eating, a waiter asked if everything was 'delicious,' and let me tell you, it absolutely was!
I finished the meal with two pieces of yozu mochi ice cream, which were a bit too much on the cold side, though that's just case of personal preference as I have sensitive teeth.
Very lovely place to eat. Beautiful atmosphere. Great to cool off after a 2 hour journey
Lovely family run establishment, the food is excellent and the service is very attentive. Decor and ambience are comfortable. Would highly recommend.
The food in OTaku is very good and the stuffs are very kind and respond very quickly. The place is nice and warm like home. I have never been to the place like OTaku, TaTaMi is very confutable. The food that I take back home is very beautiful like this photo. I love so much about the food in OTaku, I differently will come back again.
