Great little place. Drinks are a bit pricey but it's a lovely place to go if you want to try something different and unusual. The presentation of some of the drinks are just amazing.

Dropped in here after a day's shop on a Sunday for my wife's pre birthday celebrations. The place looks very swanky and wouldn't look out of place in London. The staff were friendly and explained each drink and how you should enjoy them. It is on the pricey side, but there were no syrups used and everything was fresh and made in front of you by very talented bar staff/mixologists. Cocktails are amazing like being in Wonka's factory or Heston Blumenthal's restaurants as they are so creative. Didn't eat here so couldn't comment on the food, but what we saw looked good......... definitely worth a visit.

Lovely helpful staff. Nice food but disappointing pinacolada and desert choices. Nice atmosphere and good music

Visited in December for a family birthday. I had been before but not experienced the cocktails until this visit. A great experience with lots of smoke and special effects. The food was good, and the buy one meal, give one meal to local people in need is an excellent idea. We had the meal this offer related to. We sat in the conservatory area with the heaters on and it was very cozy and warm. The staff were attentive and it was a lovely family meal with an experience we won't forget.

Lovely experience here! Sick DJ! Food was delicious and well worth the price. The drinks tasted great also. Special shout out to Yasmin, she looked after us so well, and helped us with a rude customer sitting beside us, she's a star! Would definitely come again :)

The venue is good, food in here was excellent, I’d recommend sitting downstairs in the front area as the upstairs is practically lifeless.

Joined a family and friends group. It would have been nice if they could have arranged the tables better (even the same height would have helped) but a good time was had by all. The 3 cocktails and plate of food option isn't cheap, especially if you are a lightweight like me who could only manage 2 drinks, but there were certainly some interesting brews. Service was a bit slow but you need to pace yourself for this particular offering. Overall, a good experience, but only as an occasional treat. Picture of a "Dead Red Zombie" which swirls around in an interesting way, as is very strong!

In a town so familiar with perpetual casualness, The Alchemist is a very welcomed retreat for an evening of quality, variety, and immersion. I wasn’t sure what to expect out of the experience, but myself and my dinner companions were extremely happy with the setting. We were comfortably seated in an all-glass room with panoramic views of the nighttime Gunwarf on one side, and could watch the bustling main dining room on our other side. Knowing the restaurant was renowned for its drinks, my brother and I ordered the Frübe, one of a handful of zero-proof options. It was one of the most delicious drinks I’ve had in 17 years of living, and I’m familiar with fine dining - no establishment in the US, where I was visiting from, had any drinks quite so delicious as The Alchemist. Around our table, we could see deliveries of exotic drinks emitting smoke and bubbles that were housed in test tubes and all manner of unusual, theatrical glasses. The appetizers were as delicious as the drinks; I feel obliged to stress the impressive taste of the vegan “duck” bao buns. The options for main dishes is extensive, but, if you so choose, the meal can also be split into several smaller plates instead of an entree-centered course. My brother said he would make it a priority to return to The Alchemist often, and if I lived in the United Kingdom I’d do exactly the same, because it’s very worth it.

Me and the wife went to gunwharf to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary on the 19th of August, we arrived at the alchemist around 730 after being to a few pubs. Well what can we say, absolutely amazing, The alarm was going off but everyone was laughing think it was to do with the DJ it was very funny, we had a few cocktails what was amazing to watch them make it and also the taste, it was around 915 and we decided to have food there on the off chance as we did not book, we had starters and main what was OUTSTANDING best meal in portsmouth in our eyes. On behalf of myself and the wife we just like to say thank you to all the staff including the door staff (very friendly). Thanks once again hope to see you soon.
