A back street boozer from the 1930s, busy on a Friday afternoon and under new management from the Portland. Sadly no real ale...so had Guinness which was OK. Lld wants to serve a ale in near future. This is a big pub and was full of friendly locals in both bars. Since last visit moons ago, Pompey Bl
Nice pint reasonable price jukebox on but not so loud you can't talk better than the posts
Had a great night there recently, brilliant rock n roll group there, and all the rock n' rollers dancing also brilliant. Our night was ruined by a malicious act of deliberate vandalism on my car which was in a disabled spot clearly showing my Blue badge. The bar staff and people in the pub were trul
Last week was the first time I walked in the place.
Greeted by a friendly bar lady, who served me up a pint with a smile.
The place smells really clean.
Dog friendly too.
Enjoyed a great night of Rock'n Roll there with the Yesterbeats. Looks like there's live music most Fridays and Saturdays. Well worth a look in.
Nice pub, very welcoming & not too expensive.
Excellent traditional pub with a nice vibe, friendly staff and well worth a visit
New landlady and staff done a good job with the darts cheers
Great pub that has regular entertainment and drink promotions. Had a RN reunion here and we were well looked after. Friendly staff too. Price of drinks were good value too.
A great local pub which has a really good atmosphere. They have regular live music here which is always listed on the blackboard in the bar - the music is of various genres.
Drink selection is decent but have not tried the food.
This is my local.
Fantastic pub with great regulars very old school, 2 bars so perfect for functions, pool teams and dart teams, bit different at the moment what with everything going on but they really are doing their best under the circumstances . Best atmosphere of any place I go.
Nice friendly pub was quiet but nice you could hear your self speak . And had fun playing darts .
The Phoenix Ale House
I would say is one of the last traditional Pubs left in Portsmouth built in 1937 and very much a local Pub due to location. It still has two bars a Public Bar and a Saloon Bar. In the Public Bar you will find a Bar Ballard Table which is still in use and not 100% sure on this,
The Phoenix is a large pub in the middle of a terraced street far away from the main roads. It is a friendly local pub, they have bands playing at weekends, ( before covid), and is worth trying
My daughter hired a room and buffet on the 9th April 2017 for my 80th Birthday. The land lady and landlord made me and my guests very welcome . The buffet was excellent . We will certainly go there again .
Great live music, toasty warm and friendly staff. Will return.
