We went for some food tonight and it was absolutely delicious! Thoroughly recommend the vegan hot dog and fried cauliflower. Yet again the staff were all lovely and friendly. So happy this is at the end of my road, lucky me!
Made a special journey today to try the food. Food was sublime!!!! I would definitely recommend people to come here, well worth a visit. XxX

Popped in last night to support the owners on their soft launch and was really impressed. Lovely decor and great atmosphere. You can see a mix of original features and new and the mix really compliments the place. Great drink selection also. Will be back to try the food. This place will liven up the other end Albert road.

Love this place! Always come here as they have an excellent rotation of craft beers. Also have a good food menu with plenty of vegan options.
Have been coming here for a few years now. We absolutely love the food. The last couple of times we've come to visit we just haven't been able to get a table due to it being so busy and popular. This is a shame. One evening we did manage to get a table downstairs which unfortunately was right by a cupboard. When the staff would enter the cupboard we were engulfed with a strong smell of cleaning bleach smells. This overwhelmed the taste in food. Having said this, we love it here we just wish the venue to house the amazing menu was bigger.
Fantastic bar with friendly atmosphere. Had wings and a burger and quite frankly, made some faces I wasn't completely comfortable making in public. Some of the best food I've ever tasted. Particularly recommend the Hanoi wings. Great selection of guest beers to wash it down with too

A modern pub with craft beer in cans and a good selection on draft.The food was really nice too it was served in what I would describe as a plastic basket, but good portions and very tasty. The young people had burgers and fries and I had a Gyros, washed down by a beer. Very light and airy pub with a great atmosphere, the staff are knowledgeable and helpful.
Great food and lovely staff. Always very busy which is a good sign.
We ate at the merchant house today and it did not disappoint, the food was fresh and tasty the staff were very accommodating and my boyfriend enjoyed the selections of beer that he had.
We love it and always recommend it to anyone who wants good tasty food and beer!

An excellent bar serving an array of beers, ales and lagers to suit all tastes.
It's a very popular bar during peak hours so be sure to arrive early if you want a table, and also a drink!
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about their offerings. This bar also hosts "Need Street Food" which offers an awesome array of dirty (in a good way) burgers and fries and also a decent Sunday Roast. Also served are a good variety of vegetarian and vegan meals.
Definitely worth a try.

Fabulous selection of burgers which were delish and very reasonably priced. Just visited again (24/03/23) and still fabulous! Hoping @cocothecocker_21 wins dog of the week 🤣
Love coming here on a sunny afternoon. Dog friendly, and some seating out front in the sunshine. Great vegan food options too.
Great craft beer options, some are on the expensive side, but somw reasonably priced so something for everyone.
Visited southsea on a weekend and found this absolute gem. Well priced and a great selection of craft beers. Food looked good although didn't try. Well worth a trip, staff were friendly and professional with knowledge of local craft.

A great selection of beers, with regular 'tap takeovers' from your favourite breweries.
A selection of tasty street food. My favourite is probably the Popeye burger. A chicken burger made with thigh meat rather than breast, which is must tastier. Also much more including loaded fries, Gyros, and a delicious vegetarian burger (possibly vegan - not sure).
They are dog friendly and there are often quite a few dogs in there, including mine. My dog reacts to the word Merchie in the same way she reacts to the word Walkies!!
Seating upstairs and downstairs, and even some outside seats to catch sun most of the day.
Friendly staff who are happy to talk you through the beer selection.
All this seems to attract a good bunch of customers. Often seen families with kids in there enjoying the atmosphere
Really good place with some great beers and a nice atmosphere. The food is good but wait times a bit tough, just over an hour for burger and fries on a Monday eve.
Plenty of options if you are looking for ales, ciders, etc. Burgers are pretty good too, same as loaded fries!! A lot of space and tables and the service is spot on!
Recommended for a relaxed evening with friends.

Absolutely love coming to the Merchant House, always get excited about it whenever I do. The food is so dirty but in the best way. Loaded fries, fully packed burgers, gyros and lots of veggie and vegan options too. My kind of size portions too. But don't worry, what they bring in quantity they deliver in quality too. Well thought out dishes with inspiration gathered from street food around the world. Don't even get me started on the selection of craft beers, spirits and wine. Oh and they work with a charity so every purchase you make helps someone else. An all round stunner - a Must go!
A superb selection of beers the only downside is it’s so popular if you like a beer the chances are it will be sold out by the time you visit again.
The addition of Need street food makes the merchant house by far the best place to eat and drink in Southsea / Portsmouth if you’re after burgers, hot dogs, fry’s and superb beer.
Their Hoisin fries are a masterpiece and as I sit here writing this I know I will have to pop in this week to have some more. They do other fries and they are great but the Hoisin fries are on another level.
Merchant House is doing plenty right: Fantastic guest beers from all over; outrageously yummy food; good music; nice venue. That said, go here for the food. Thats the major draw. So major that everybody in the local vicinity is there Fri/Sat, so get in early.
