The Old Costumes House is an interesting reference on Portsmouth sea history.
It is also an easy to spot landmark on the Gunwarf Quays which makes itself notice by the old and rustic look on a place where new and modern constructions try to replace the past.
Inside is the perfect place for the windy and rainny day I found on my third visit to Portsmouth.
Drinking a great beer on a cosy armchair is something this place has to offer.
Don't go to the Quays without visiting this place and invite some friends in.
What a great pub right in the middle of Gunwharf . excellent range of beers being a Fullers owned( try the IPA and ESB) and the food is proper pub grub at a reasonable price. Great atmosphere and nice Chesterfield lounges to sit on Staff very friendly. Recommended
Had a sumptuous dinner with a cold cider drink. Atmosphere is great. Thereโs a lot of space and tables to choose from.. I will definitely come back soon! Highly recommended!
The food was DELICIOUS!!! I had the Caesar salad and schnitzel, my boyfriend had the fish and chips. Both were DIVINE! So fresh and tasty.
We went at a VERY busy time during the supercar event, so service was a bit slow but it was busy!
Prices were on the high side but the quality was good!!
Would go back and recommend it.
Visited on a busy Summer Sunday but the 2 huge Roast Dinners ordered at the bar were delivered to the table extremely quickly.
Different seating areas inside and many tables outside.
Friendly efficient staff.
Food expertly prepared and delicious.
On second visit seated in the Restaurant area where Charles was an extremely efficient host.
The Roast Lamb was like none I have ever had, melted in the mouth and just fell off the bone, the whole meal was delicious and I believe Marbin was the chef.
They must employ the best at this establishment.
Beautiful detailed old custom house made into a Fuller pub... Staff are friendly and helpful. Decor is old fashioned leather seating, wooden table and chairs and even table side ordering from your smart phone. Service was quick and prompt. Cost was very reasonable and the hock sandwich and side serving of chips was made just right. Outside seating is available as well. Would definitely recommend a visit if you are near.
Great location for a quick drink. Nice outside area as well. Staff very friendly and helpful. Thank you for a nice visit
I recently had the pleasure of dining and drinking at The Old Customs House in Portsmouth and it was an exceptional experience. The range of food offered was excellent, with a variety of options to suit all tastes. The dishes were beautifully presented and delicious, particularly the seafood options.
The ale selection was also impressive, with a variety of local ales and ciders on tap. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and drinks, making for a great dining experience.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a casual dinner with friends or a romantic evening out. I highly recommend The Old Customs House for anyone looking for great food, drinks and atmosphere
I was here. Might be just coffee on a February evening. The history says this building is the oldest on the harbour.
Amazing, 2nd night, back for a brew after a walk to Spice Island. Apparently they have stopped doing CAKE.
Lovely pub with a long history in a beautiful setting. It got different rooms with about 4-5 tables of 4. The menu is a little more sophisticated than the average pubs. The fish pie and the fish n chip was pretty good but found the burger patties is a bit dry. Chips was triple fried and is not greasy.
A nice outdoor seating area to enjoy a sunny afternoon with a pint!
Lovely pub.
The staff were all polite and helpful.
Great seating outside is available.
Warm, sunny October day, Sat outside, lots of tables, was busy but nice atmosphere. Food was very good, fish and chips done really well, and pork rib eye was great. Service was really good, only slight comment really was, bar area is quite small, and so at times a bit of a queue to get drinks, but staff were good, queue went down quick, and can order from tables, happy to eat here again whenever down next
