I've just eaten the most incredible fishcakes with deep fried kale. This pub is amazing! Full of people, lovely atmosphere, great service and all six of us were very impressed with our meals. Great portion sizes, EPIC sweet potato fries that STAY crispy... outstanding! Cheers!
We had our work Christmas party at The Marmion this afternoon. It was a good atmosphere and the food was amazing! All of the staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely afternoon, will recommend The Marmion to friends and family!
Never eaten here but food looks lovely! Usually pop in for a few beers and always impressed by the staff who are friendly and efficient. Great place.
The best burgers and Lovely staff would highly recommend xx
Ate there for the first time today, got to be the best roast in Southsea! So worth the very reasonable price, loved
Went for a lovely meal here this evening. The chef got my order wrong but my correct meal came out within minutes. When we came to pay, the lovely waiter (Callum) had taken money of the bill. There was really no need and we were so surprised we forgot to leave a tip. Sorry! Excellent service and lovely food. Thank you.
Most amazing Christmas lunch everything perfect massive well done to front of house ...bar staff ...waiting staff and all those working so hard in the kitchen ... can’t believe how big The cheeseboard was and we had the added bonus of seeing the new baby thanks to all of you
We went there yesterday really to call in for old times sake and have a drink (It used to be my local about 42 years ago- then I think it was called The Marmion Tavern). Staff were very friendly and professional, decided to stay and have lunch - we were going to go to a chain restaurant where we had a 40% off voucher on mains) but the Marmion was so welcoming we had lunch and it was amazing. Definitely coming again when we are down from Woking.
Back for a 2nd time for food . 1st time was amazing. Food is so worth the money. Staff are so friendly. Always a good atmosphere.
Excellent food , great staff and a wonderful rum collection
Our party of 11 (I think) went for dinner last night, and we all agreed how amazing the food was. I had the fillet steak and was perfect. All staff were friendly and everyone's food served how they wanted it and at the some time. Also sell Monkey 47 gin which means Marmion will probably be my new local from now on. 5 stars!
Had chicken nachos. Portion was massive so couldn't finish but it was oh so tasty! Staff were really accommodating and friendly. Love this pub.
Had never been here myself as living over gosport, but brought family here from Plymouth for Easter Dinner & everything was 100%. The staff interacted with my 6yr old sister, food was 100%, service 100%, couldn't fault it. Family said they will definitely come back here again.
Thank you all x
There are very few pubs in Portsmouth that serve a good roast so I was pleasantly surprised after my visit to The Marmion. Homemade Yorkshire, roast potatoes and gravy (made the proper way) were all lovely as was the veg - everything tasted very fresh! I think I can say that I preferred it to the other place down the road. Slightly more than I usually pay, but I couldn't really find fault with anything - perhaps include stuffing? Parsnips? Although you won't go hungry as the portions were just right. Great service (am I right in saying that the place has been taken over?)
We popped in for a drinks at the weekend after the great south run. Without us asking the lovely staff gave our dog a little gravy dinner which she absolutely loved. Really attentive and thoughtful, very friendly staff and great service. And obviously dog friendly ☺️
Had a lovely pre theatre dinner here last night. Had their taster menu and was fab as was the white chocolate and passionfruit cheeses cake.
Service good and efficient.
We will be coming back again.
Great atmosphere and reasonably priced. Superb venue for after work drinks.
Nice pub, friendly staff, will use again.
We need to use our local pubs or we will loose them
Really friendly staff and reasonably priced drinks.
Well, it’s no wonder the Marmion gets such great reviews having sampled their fayre tonight I can only but agree. We booked a table on line and went straight to the table after ordering drinks about 5:30 PM, nice atmosphere and an ideal setting for a restaurant in a busy, social pub. The girl who served us was very helpful and friendly, difficult when you are the only one front of house, we just got there before the evening staff arrived, so no complaints. I Initially thought it funny there were no starters (trust me, you would struggle to get through mains course with their portion sizes), just olives and bread – bit more than that, bread with salsa dip, bowl of olives, bowl of red peppers with soft cheese and balsamic vinegar dip for the warm bread, lovely and filling which is why our eyes were bigger than our tummies. Mrs B had nachos with cheese and chicken with bowls of sour cream, guacamole and salsa plus jalapeno chillies, quite fiery but very nice. I had battered cod with humungous chips, mushy pea bowl and tarte sauce (all sauces chef prepared). What a gorgeous fish, so fresh too in a thin batter and a large piece too, as good or better than any fish & chip shop. We both went for the GF lemon cheesecake, wowsers, this took the experience to a new level, it was beautiful in every way, artistic presentation with a nice strawberry & a couple of raspberries’, little bowl of sorbet to balance what I can only describe as handmade lemon curd taste to die for and a sumptious cheesecake on a light fluffy base of biscuit. At this point, there was no room for an espresso, I /we were done, you know that over-eaten feeling after a blowout Sunday roast, that feeling… To conclude, you better be hungry
Not advertised as a family pub (because it isn't), but we had 2 small children in our group for food on a Sat eve.
The staff went above and beyond to cater for us though, very friendly indeed.
The pub is lively, it was a Sat eve/night so was to be expected!
Food was in good time, tasted good and once again they did a good job sorting the little ones for us.
Will be back for adult evening, or daytime with the kids. Cheers
Lovely food....Excellent service....Will definitely be back....
Love this restaurant and a treat when I visit Southsea
Excellent food great service and nice beer, in nice comfy surroundings 100 per cent recommended, thanks for an excellent Christmas lunch.
Nice, a little dear tho and usually very noisy. Good place to go with your shopping if you've been to Waitrose and are ordering a cab and getting in a quick half. Good selection of ales. The bar manager is a cool dude, for sure.
A lovely place to have breakfast, nice atmosphere, care and attention to detail
Come and see for yourself...The fruit bowl, yougart and honey is recommended!
The extensive collection of gins make this an easy favourite for me. Great atmosphere and good food.
