Me and my friend visited Sant Yago a week ago on a Tuesday evening. We phoned at the very last minute (5 o'clock) to ask if they had a table for two that evening, and were very lucky that they had. I had been wanting to go to Sant Yago's for a while as lots of friends has recommended it to me, and I kept being told it was very popular so I would need to book in advance.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was great. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and taken to our table. The lighting was dim, but they had candles lit on each table. There was an old black and white film playing on the wall behind the bar that caught our attention, as well as the birds hand crafted from barbed wire that were hanging from the ceiling. The tables were well set apart, so you could easily have a conversation on your table and not get distracted by noise from any other tables.
The service we received from our Waiter Daniel was excellent. When we ordered our food we had a Tastecard, which he explained gave us 2 for 1 on all tapas. For our last dish, we couldn't decide between the Coconut Quinoa Curry or a Lamb dish and asked for his opinion. He gave us different reasons for why he would choose each dish, and then looked at the rest of the dishes we had ordered, to see which would go best. Daniel went the extra mile, and when he bought out our food he also bought out the Coconut Quinoa Curry (after we had chosen the Lamb dish), as he said he knew we couldn't decide and he thought we'd like to try it. This was a lovely gesture to our meal.
The food was excellent, and arrived to our table very quickly after we had ordered it. All the tapas dishes arrived together, and we had a great selection of food from what we chose. Our Waiter Daniel was very attentive, and came up to our table multiple times throughout the evening to check we were okay.
By using our Tastecard and getting 2 for 1 on all tapas dishes, the food worked out great value. We had 7 tapas dishes (this includes the one Daniel gave us for free), and the bill came to around £20 for us both! We were pleasantly surprised as the food was such great quality.
We will definitely be returning to Sant Yago because of the excellent service received and the quality of the food. We would highly recommend eating in Sant Yago!
My boyfriend treated me to an evening here last night. We’d heard a lot of good things about the place and boy were they right. Staff were just the right level of there for you, without constantly hovering. They were all genuinely friendly and helpful not that forced feeling you get sometimes. The food was awesome, every dish we had, was absolutely beautifully cooked and tasted amazing. They do a damn fine espresso martini too. I would definitely recommend a visit.
Our fave place to eat in Portsmouth! Friendly staff, really amazing food and lovely cocktails! Always our 'go to' restaraunt for any occasion :D
Loved the place. Have been trying to go there for about 3 years. The staff were lovely, personable and totally unhurried even though it was busy and we were a large party. Drinks reasonably priced. My daughter is extremely fussy with food and ordered 4 dishes finishing most of them. Will definitely return
Easily my favourite place in the city to eat. Great staff, fantastic food and the setting is marvellous. You can't beat decent tapas with dnb in the background and some Charlie Chaplin on a big screen.
Absolutely fabulous evening celebrating my special Birthday . The staff couldn't have been more perfect ...attentive , helpful , accommodating , welcoming and fun
Sarah was perfect and made sure I was totally relaxed and that everything I'd asked for was provided
The food was delicious, plenty of it and a perfect menu choice which Sarah had created for me
My guests have continued to rave about how perfect the setting was and that it was a fabulous party .... Enjoyed by all

My third visit and it didn't disappoint. Love it here, great place to eat with my daughters and the cocktails are divine. Will definitely be back.
We visited last night for Dinner. The atmosphere and attention to detail was perfect... nothing was to much trouble. The owner and staff went out of there way to make sure we had a good evening.. We were going to go somewhere else for a drink afterwards but ended up downstairs in there cocktail bar which was just good! Special thank you to the kind owner for coming and finding us with some spare stalls to perch on!! X
Had dinner here last night celebrating my fiancé’s promotion, at first we weren’t sure if we would like the menu choices, but every single dish was Devine! Service was second to none and the girls were so friendly and welcoming, and didn’t rush at all despite being really busy! Will be back again soon!
We pick this place every time we get a chance for a night out! Staff are so lovely, perfect atmosphere, lovely drinks and the food is just incredible!
loved it from having a drink in bar before meal ,the food itself was amazing to the cocktail at the end also amazing. Staff extremely pleasant would I go back .... Absolutely again and again......

Came with a hen party on Saturday night. Having read the menu before, i thought i was going to come out hungry! Did various plates with the other girls and really enjoyed everything! Great tasting food, lovely atmosphere, staff are very polite and made sure we were all catered for in every way. Would definitely go back!
Favourite Restaurant, best local independent by far.
Food is always amazing! And cocktails are another level, lychee sours my fave!
Really lovely atmosphere any day of the week, suitable for intimate and large group events, cannot recommend these guys enough
Having eaten at this establishment before as part of large "party" group, I was keen to enjoy a more intimate dinner with the wife here.
We enjoyed some wonderful espresso martinis downstairs upon our arrival, with the lovely bar-person being an absolute treat...and a great mixologist!
Eventually, we took our window seat and order a selection of mouth-watering food to share.
I won't babble too much, but it was a solid 7/10...with only the "meat tacos" being dry and cold upon arrival.
It's another solid night out at this pleasant and busy restaurant.
The most stunning venue ……. happy hour cocktails 🍹 🍸 and the most delicious tapas. Fresh, clean, flavoursome small plates 😁
It’s my first time here since 2017 and I wanted to come back from a long time ago. The food tastes as good as it was back in the old days but I remembered it like a more quiet place… nonetheless, great quality-price relation and great attention. I hope to come back soon! :)
Sant Yago tapas restaurant serves up delicious dishes, featuring a diverse array of flavorful tapas. Unfortunately, the recent update to the decor didn't meet my expectations, lacking the wow factor I had hoped for. Despite that, the quality of the food is definitely a redeeming factor.
Very nice tapas restaurant. I've never seen so many gluten free options and they had lots of options for vegetarians too. The food was tasty and they had good portion sizes. Their cocktail list was massive - all different and fantastic.
Great spot for a light lunch. Tapas dishes are rather sizeable compared to other tapas places, so there's still plenty of food to go round between multiple people. The food itself was flavoursome and filling – but the highlight for me is definitely the cocktails. So refreshing, I shall compare them to a summer's day.
Great Tapas restaurant! Menu has a great selection and valued well. Quality of food is great from starters to desserts! The cocktails list is also great and has a lot of selection. Location is good however there isn't much parking, however parking is walking distance. I would mention if you are considering here which I recommend; is to reserve a table as it is very busy and in demand. You won't be disappointed with you choice to eat here. It's also very clean with a nice atmosphere - staff were very friendly too.
Very lively place, nice atmosphere. Waitress was super friendly and helpful and the food was really good. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The pork belly was the highlight of the meal but all the food was very good. Would come back for sure.
Great place! I thought that the menu and decor was stylish and we had lovely service all night! Tapas in my opinion is always overpriced in the UK and this one sits on the more expensive end of the spectrum as 5 dishes and 1 drink was around £28 each. I thought the food was tasty, the monkfish could have been seasoned better and warmer but generally speaking everything else was flavoursome and filling! Definitely a cute place for a date. I would recommend this place to others!
