Reviews Rope & Anchor

We opted for the Rope and Anchor, a topsy turvy pub/restaurant hidden away one street back from the Quayside. We arrived at 1.45 only to find there were no tables. Luckily someone finished soon after so we were able to have their table which was quickly cleared and cleaned. Food is ordered at the bar. A straight forward roast with choice of 6 different meats with options to have 1-6 portions of meat!!! The 40 minute wait for food seemed rather long but the owner did come and apologise as a party of 10 had ordered just before us. I think it was just a case of bad timing on our behalf as another table who came in much later was served immediately after us. The table area was a pleasant relaxed environment with a great 80s soundtrack in the background. Boy was it worth the wait though! Huge portions that were served piping hot. 3 different freshly steamed veg, 3 big roast potatoes, huge homemade Yorkshire pudding and a mass of quality meat. I had turkey, he had beef and chicken. Both were served with a side of cranberry and horseradish sauce respectively. If I had one tiny negative it would have been the packet stuffing. It just didn’t fit with all the other lovely fresh ingredients. I've got a lovely recipe on my blog handed down from my nan ;-)

I had my 60th birthday party here last Saturday and I couldn't have asked for a better place to host it what a lovely pub the food was amazing and the lovely girl working behind the bar (sorry didn't get her name) worked her little socks off to keep everyone's glasses full 😍Daniel & James worked so hard to get all the gorgeous food out everyone was very impressed with how lovely it looked and how fabulous it tasted. So if you are looking for a venue or just want a lovely lunch I would highly recommend The Rope and Anchor ⚓️ x x

Lovely friendly, clean pub. One of the best in Poole. Had an amazing roast dinner with friends today. Really impressed & even more impressed that they boxed up what we couldn’t eat so we could bring it home. Highly recommended.

Walked past, saw the menu board, thought why not. Warm welcome, plenty of choice for beers and ciders. Warned of a 40 minute wait but starter arrived in 20. Excellent calamari, batter thicker than normal but freshly cooked and a fresh salad to accompany with. Ocean pie for main, fantastic and filling, well worth the wait. Great find, hope to return soon!

Really friendly and welcoming pub with two excellent pub dogs. Outside seating at front and rear. Food looked good here and was clearly popular, but only had drinks personally.

Popped in out of the rain to a warm welcome so decided to stay and ordered a couple of delicious basket meals and a pizza and chips to share. Will definitely visit again. Tucked away near Scaplins Court near Poole Quay, seek it out to avoid disappointment.

New management. We popped in today and found a little gem. The covered yard is a lovely place to have a meal and a drink. Fish and chips, scampi and chips & burger and chips. The food was lovely and the staff so friendly, definitely going back soon. Book for Sunday roast, you can have up to 6 meats!!! Lamb included, you need to book though.

Came here for the first time for the Sunday roast dinner and all 3 of us are presently surprised at how good the food was; the portions are generous, even the meat, and everything tasted really good and fresh. The left overs from nan's roast (as stayed, very generous) was wrapped really well to take home. This is one of the only places my Notoriously fussy Nan has actually liked! The staff are friendly and the place is clean, stylish with a shipshape feel to it. Booking is recommended.

The Rope and Anchor provided a truly delightful dining experience that left us with fond memories. The food was delicious, with a special mention to their Sunday lunch that was both visually appealing and satisfying to the taste buds (please do book and have one as the Sunday Lunches are so good). The wonderful variety of beers came as a pleasant discovery, with each one presenting its own distinct flavors while keeping a clear and crisp profile, for those who appreciate a good ale, your expectations will certainly be met. The warm and inviting attitude of the staff, along with their attentive service, contributed to the overall appeal of the establishment. They adeptly attended to our needs, creating an atmosphere where we felt like cherished patrons. The evenings held their own enchantment, as the entertainment seamlessly matched the cozy ambiance that characterizes a traditional pub setting, and when the entertainment elevated its tempo, it brought an additional layer of joy to the experience, resonating delightfully with everyone in the pub. We want to express our gratitude for the lovely experience during our holiday. The Rope and Anchor's inviting ambiance, coupled with the great variety of food, beers, and spirits, made it a memorable stop. Thank you to the entire team for making our visit special. Kind regards Steve, Gina, Lydia & Hollie (the two quiet colouring in littleones).

A little gem tucked away in Poole old town. The roast dinner was absolutely amazing- between us we had turkey, beef and lamb and each dinner was delicious. The staff were all friendly and the atmosphere great with a nice music soundtrack being played. We will definitely come back again.

We popped here with our puppy at around 7pm on Friday evening. It was perfect. Friendly welcome and stunning food. I've added pics but they don't do the food (Steak pie/ chicken burger) justice. 10/10 :-) Oh and they sell real ale which was a big bonus for me 🍺

Came here recently by accident. Didn't even know that I was hungry.....until I saw the tempting menu!! The Landlords were friendly and engaging and couldn't do enough to be of service. This pub is unfortunately a hidden gem in a competitive and universally struggling hospitality market. I had the 14 Oz rump steak with king prawns (surf and turf). This was cooked to perfection, and was absolutely delicious. My fellow diners had a range of items from the menu, such as sea bream and the fish and chips in a basket. All cooked perfectly. It was my first time here and it won't be my last. Take a chance , stray off the beaten and boringly familiar track on Poole quay, and try this small, vibrant, well run pub that serves great food with a great team. Thank you

We used to visit regularly on holiday when run by the old owners . So were pleased we booked a Sunday lunch in advance for our holiday again this year now that it has changed hands . The new owners and staff are really friendly, running it really well and serving up excellent food and drink. Warm and friendly welcome on arrival from the staff. Nice and clean and pleasant atmosphere. Well spaced out tables. Ladies toilets (upstairs) really clean and even have complimentary sanitary products if needed. Our Roast beef and yorkshire pudding sunday lunch was really tasty and so enjoyable. We like our meat well done, and they obliged by cooking it to our liking. Veg and roast potatoes were perfectly to our taste , a big pot of gravy to go with the big hearty meal. My massive portion of apple crumble was full of big chunks of apple and didn't skimp on the jugful of custard. Just perfect! Excellent and attentitve service throughout. We rebooked for the wednesday night and yet again a really warm welcome from the male member of staff who served us on Sunday and good service again from Courtney . Hubby's ham, cheese & pickles ploughmans and my fish, chips & minted mushy peas meals were yet again very tasty. Rounded off with vanilla cheesecake & a really fruity compote. Rebooked for our final night on the friday , and both had the fish & chips followed by the big apple crumble & custard for me. Again absolutely scrumptious! This is our favourite pub in Poole and will definitely dine there again most nights when next on holiday , as we have confidence in the quality of the food , as well as enjoying the friendly atmosphere, cleanliness and service. Julie & Dave :)
