Had our best meal during our holiday in Devon! This is a hidden gem! Truly authentic and quality Chinese Malaysian food. 👍🏼As a Chinese who has high expectations on Chinese food, I’m very pleased to find this place! 😀We ordered a few curry dishes, Malaysian noodles, and Singapore noodles. My favourite is the king prawn curry. It’s the best curry I ever had! Not as oily as Indian curry! Just perfect flavour. The flat noodle is as good as that in a top restaurant in London Chinatown. We also likes the pickled vegetables as appetiser. It’s so good we had to order another 3😊!
The Takeaway is minutes walk to the harbour. It is clean. You can see the kitchen. There are a few tables outside. We could enjoy our meal under the beautiful sun without worrying to find a place to sit down and eat. This is super helpful for tourists like us. The owner Yee is very warm. The variety and choices are great! The food are served very quickly. Top services! Although it’s a take away, we felt like we ate at a restaurant. Definitely want to come back again to try out other dishes. if we visit Plymouth again. Highly recommend, 5 Stars!
I've only had delivery from New Oriental Tea Room, but every single time the food is excellent: very tasty, beautifully cooked and arrives hot. The delivery is always timely and everyone who delivers is courteous and friendly. Best Chinese food takeaway in Plymouth.

1st time trying this Chinese. Ordered my collection at 7.30, got there slightly early, a very warm welcoming member of staff was very polite and advised that they were just finishing cooking the last of our dishes. Food was hot, fresh and tasted amazing, when we got home roughly a ten minute drive.
Will definitely be ordering from here more often, lots of Malaysian dishes I’d like to try including the Nasi Lemak, Redang & Malaysian curry.
I’ve eaten at a lot of the Chinese takeaways in Plymouth and this is definitely my new favourite. Staff seemed really knowledgeable about their menu and dishes, took the time to tell us about the Malaysian dishes and recommend dishes which we may like.
Prices are very reasonable and match prices in the local area. Portions of what we ordered were large and plentiful.
Some of the best Chinese food that I've tasted. Great menu,staff very friendly and helpful. No alcohol license at the moment otherwise it would have been 5 star. At the moment you can take your own drinks but your charged corkage. Where it's situated might not be to every one's taste but just taste the food and you'll not worry where you are. Parking and rest room available.
This is our regular Chinese takeaway. Ordering via their website is easy, they have a loyalty scheme (500 points gives you £5 off), the food arrives in good time and is hot and delicious! My favourites/regulars are vegetables in garlic sauce and sweet & sour chicken HK style. Always delicious and good portions leaving enough for lunch the next day. Can't recommend them enough!
The New Oriental Tearoom in Plymouth! Very impressed by their food! Order your food via their website. Receive 10 % discount! It only takes 30mins to be created, then you can walk down and collect it! They also have the option to deliver. Our favourite dishes are: Smoked Chicken, Salt and Pepper Prawn (starters), Malaysian Rendang Beef (main). You must try their food, you won’t be disappointed!
This is my first Chinese in 5 years since I was diagnosed as celiac, I was pleased to discover you catered for a gluten free diet, I am extremely allergic so was delighed with Zak, who I spoke to on the phone, he was brilliant spent a lot of time discussing my choices and double checking they were safe for me to eat, nothing was too much trouble for him. Thank you for making what for me is a stressful thing (ordering any takeaway) a truly easy experience. I will definitely be ordering again. The food was excellent, and delivered on time.
Dropped in here for lunch after chatting to the new owners outside before our walk around the area.
We chose from the lunchtime menu and were very impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. Very flavoursome and fresh.
We were chatting during lunch and told they do a good Malaysian selection. We will definitely be revisiting to try that out too.
Very friendly staff and good service, reasonable service too. Definitely recommended.
When finished you can go into the wholesale shop next door to pick up genuine Ingredients for your home cooking.
Ordered a takeaway to be delivered to a local hotel while staying in the area. Ordering through the website was easy enough and delivery efficient. The food was really good. Good portion sizes and the ingredients all looked and tasted so fresh. Would highly recommend.
My wife ordered during lockdown and haven't had a chinese in a very long time due to the fact we haven't been able to find a decent one! This was definitely the best we have ever had. Great selection of vegetarian dishes and the restaurant even called us to say we could have our food much earlier than expected! Great food, good quality ingredients, not greasy and arrived fresh and hot! Will be ordering again very soon!
Had lunch here at the weekend to find it had been taken over by new management a couple of months ago. Food was delicious! The half duck was so good! Real chunks of meat as opposed to tiny shredded bits which you can sometimes be served. Staff friendly and very helpful. Prices fairly reasonable so will I'm sure be returning.
What a great find! Recently opened, this place has indeed some authentic dishes! Meat quality in particular is amazing, service is fast and they are the kindest people around (always got a small something as a free treat and that's the sign of a welcoming restaurant)! Whether you're ordering to go or eat there, you're in for a treat! It's so authentic that spiciness is not adjusted to the local palate so you might want to ask about it before ordering in case it's an issue for you ;-). The Black Pepper Sauce with Beef is an insanely yummy dish! One of those dishes you know you will keep ordering even though there are other appealing dishes! So is the the crispy pork belly!
We have used the New Oriental Tea Garden twice since it re-opened in August 2019. The food is fantastic, fresh and full of natural flavours, not like some Chinese that seem to use MSG. When I go to collect the staff (although busy) are friendly. The kitchen is open so you can see all the chefs hard at work. The little restaurant seems nice so we plan to eat there at some point. You get a good amount of food for the price. Excellent all round.
The whole experience from calling and ordering the food a polite & personal helpful chap very refreshing giving you advice on the dishes, to then receiving on time HOT food in our opinion the best authentic takeaway dishes we have eaten. The best in this town buy a mile...... this the 3rd time and we have always tried different dishes on the menu amazing thank you can’t wait until our next treat of trying different dishes of the menu. It was the first time we've ordered from the New oriental tea rooms and we were not disappointed. We had the Marmite chicken and the sea spicy chicken both were cooked perfectly. The staff were friendly and the delivery time was quick.We will definitely be ordering again soon.
Many neighbours advised how good the food here was, they were right. Nothing was left on the table. The crispy chili beef was stand out as was the chow mein and the rendang curry. Delivery was as requested and in good time. Now our go to take out.
Wow. Packed full of flavour the vegetarian Malaysian curry was delicous.
As was the vegtable fried rice. The whole meal was full of colour amd flavour. I find many local restaurants seem to be bland where vegtable fried rice and veg curry's are concerned.
I ordered through Deliveroo. Super fast delivery his!!
This was delivered by the restaurant so will go through them next time.
5 star !!! This will now be my go to Asian restaurant.
