What a fantastic surprise to find a Gluten Free Fish and Chip shop in Plymouth. Been on holiday and not been able to find anywhere to have a meal that was gluten free. This was the first time I had eaten battered fish in a long time and I can assure you this was worth the wait. Beautiful tasting golden batter, to die for. Wished a few more places would do that. Thank you so much for putting the finishing touches to a great holiday.
Normally eat in Harbourside but the queue was massive tonight so popped down to the new gluten free chip shop as less of a queue, what can I say but WOW. Well worth the trip from plympton
Great gluten free fish and chips plus you don’t pay several pounds extra because you want GF. Wonderful cripsy batter and chips to die for. Great friendly staff too. Make sure you go there!
Normally eat at harbour side fish and chips shop, I decided to try out the new gluten free shop and it’s was just as good !
Visited the gluten free take away yesterday and it was great i had battered saussage and chips it was the best ive had for ages , Being a coeliac makes it difficult to trust food chains, but the staff were great and friendly and I will be coming back
Would definitely recommend anyone with coeliac try the gluten free chippy..i definitely will be going again the food was just prefect ..
Most definitely the best Cod Chips and Mushy peas that I’ve ever had!
Great service and very reasonably priced too.
Highly recommend
7 years wait to find gluten free fish and chips came to visit family in Plymouth and found this absolute gem!! Tastiest fish and chips / sausage and chips ..... we had two visits it was THAT good!!!
Fantastic to find somewhere we can take my daughter for fish and chips, best gluten free fish and chips we’ve had highly recommended
Just had lunch from the new Gluten free chip shop, It was very tasty & NOT an ounce of grease on my battered sausage & chips. I had them wrapped to bring back to work & it wasn't soggy at all.
Thanks Sarah & Charly
It's been the Best fish and chips I've ever had, staff are welcoming with high standards of good customer service, the place is spotless. 100% Recommend this place to anyone
Absolutely fantastic fish and chips! Harbourside never fails to impress! The staff are amazing and do a fantastic job in such a busy little takeaway! The seated area upstairs is a huge improvement and a great facility to offer its customers. I always go here when on the Barbican!
I chose Harbourside Fish and Chips for a takeaway meal while on a brief visit to Plymouth. It advertises the fact that it was voted 3rd best fish and chip shop in 2018 but nothing more recent.
The counter area was bright, welcoming, clean and tidy. I did not visit the upstairs dine in area.
There was a range of food options including chips, fish, sausages, chicken strips, burgers and kid's meal.
The staff were friendly and helpful and our food was cooked to order so it was fresh and hot.
The food was very tasty and simply delicious.
The only issue I had was the cost. We ordered 1 fish, 2 chips, 2 sausages, 2 fruit shoot bottles and some chicken strips and it cost more than £30. Apparently dining in costs a bit more. Nevertheless I would recommend this restaurant.
We were wandering around the shops and stumbled across this place. It seems to be a busy place. We decided to order take away but wound up sitting at a table on the sidewalk. The fish and chips were really good! It took maybe 10 minutes to get our order but it’s worth it. Great location to people watch 🙂
We stopped here on a whim while strolling through the area. We were seated upstairs, and had a great view out onto the street and docks. My wife had the cod, mini fish and chips and though I ordered the haddock mini fish and chips I was in advertently brought the full-size one. Sometimes mistakes happen during ordering. So it was a few dollars more, I didn’t mind because the fish was absolutely delicious. For us the true test of good fish and chips is partially if it’s still crispy at the last bite. This one absolutely was. The serving of mushy peas was huge, and my wife and I probably could’ve split one.
Henry, our way to it was a delight. Some locals that have been coming there for years struck up a conversation with us from the next table, and we had a delightful conversation to go along with our meal.
If you’re looking for fish and chips in the area, this one is a winner!
Lovely fish and chips although I would have expected fresh fish not frozen fish given the location. Peas were very dry, more a case of 1 slice or 2 instead of spoonfuls! Waitress pleasant and attentive
I was in town for work, and my colleague and I headed to the Barbican as I knew there were plenty of places to eat. We walked the streets and selected the Harbourside because of the sign in the window that they had won 3rd place in a national award for their Fish&Chips.
We quickly came to realise why. We were greeted in a friendly manner and informed that there was seating upstairs as well as the takeaway. We opted for this as it was raining heavily.
The waitress on duty was friendly and helpful, I selected the regular Haddock with chips and gravy along with tartar sauce. Even the sauce was great! The chips were lovely, and there were plenty of them. The fish was beautiful, a nice light but crispy batter and a decent portion for me without being too much.
Whenever I am in Plymouth again, I shall definitely be coming back, and I hope they get the recognition they deserve in this year's awards.
Late lunchtime treat 3 portions of battered sausage with cheesey chips and 1 portion of chips with curry sauce..... freshly cooked ,generous portions great value for money. Friendly staff too.
Absolutely loved this place! Chips were just right not overly crispy and fluffy inside, fish batter was perfect, light crispy and not too thick. Give their onion rings a try too, made by them with the same batter as the fish. Curry sauce was made how it should be, fruity and not spicy. Probably the best we have had for a long time and will visit again next time we are in Plymouth.
Fresh fish and chips on the Barbican, a few tables outside to eat at or inside upstairs. Don't be surprised to wait a few minutes to get you meal orders for take aways, but they're pretty quick and the food is worth the wait. Enjoyed mine sitting near the Pilgrim steps and the Marina, perfect.
Best fish and chips in the world! Every trip to Plymouth it’s a must on multiple occasions. Both the Haddock and Cod are great choices.
Lovely food! The menu needs updating as some things aren't available (milkshakes) but the fish and chips are great!
If this place doesn’t sell the best fish and chips in the UK I don’t know who does. Unbelievably tasty, fresh fish, with perfect crunchy batter and grease free chips. Expertly seasoned with salt and vinegar. Well worth buying the larger size fish though as the standard size is too small.
Popped in while on the Barbican. They were busy but service was fast. Fair prices as fish was huge and we couldn't finish all the fish and chips. (Also have a battered sausage each.) On the recipient you are given and number which they call out when your order is ready. Best fish and chip shop on the Barbican.

Exelent food thats always made frol order with great price. A great place to have a meal with friends/family and friendly staff.
We were greeted in the upstairs restaurant by Elise and Henry who were both really pleasant with a lovely welcoming smile.
Such a delight especially these days and were seated by the window with views of the Barbican.
The fish and chips were superb and served within a short space of time, hot and you could tell were freshly cooked .
Such a pleasure to eat in this establishment with such welcoming staff.
Best bits: I had the mini cod with chips very nice , huge potions and a mocha which I can definitely say was perfect! The restaurant was very clean and tidy but the best thing about this restaurant was without doubt the staff, they were welcoming, very friendly and polite. A credit to Harbourside.
Not so good bits: No milkshake available 😪. The main seating area was upstairs on the floor by steep stairs.Although there was some seating downstairs where the takeaway counter was. No lift available so not so good for disabled people./ kids/prams etc.
Parking available nearby.
