I have been to the mad cat around 3 times now and in all honesty I can’t fault it. Very friendly staff and landlord, really nice food with great portion sizes, nice atmosphere with open fires going. Nice resident dog and cats to pet too! Decor is perhaps a little past its heyday but it fits the old traditional pub vibe. 5*

This traditional pub is friendly - even better it's dog friendly. Their Sunday roast tasted like a proper home cooked meal, with lashings of tasty gravy. There was a constant stream of freshly cooked veg from the kitchen as plates were piled high! The roast spuds were the best - not frozen or pre-prepared!
We just moved into the area and going out to the local was the best idea we had. Darren and the staff are delightful and super friendly. It will be a regular and they do takeaway roasts too!

Went back to the Mad Cat after nearly 2 years, and the food is still just as good and plentiful, but why do we have to have the 5 children in the bar with us.
Many years ago my children used to go to me ex mother-in-laws pub while I was working, but there is no way my children would have been allowed in the bar at opening times.
Surely, there are other rooms upstairs that they could play in quite happily, while mum is working, It is just a question, but it does mean that I won't be going back to enjoy the food, and I do wonder how many other people don't return because of this.
Good food. Good service. Good prices. Sunday carvery is best to book.
Stopped by for an evening meal out of the blue and even in the current times staff were friendly and welcoming. Andrea was friendly and patient and the food was fantastic. Cooked to perfection. Will be back if in this area again.. excellent.
Had Christmas Carvery Dinner here as a large group.
The food was good & plentiful, the staff were pleasant & attentive and the open fire was cosy making the atmosphere feel warm, friendly & inviting.
We all had such a lovely time.

Lovely roast, friendly people, clean and not terribly expensive. Generous meat portions. Only thing I might say could be improved is, the plates could be bigger. Not to be greedy but if the plates were bigger the food would look more presentable. When the plates are smaller, you pile up the food high and you end up looking greedy, when you don't need more food, just a larger plate. Other than that, brilliant.
Excellent beer and chips!
The place feels a little past its heyday, so don't expect too much "shine". But all the drinks were cheap and the Jailbird beer was excellent. Big bowls of chips brought out to the garden for us by smiling bartender made for a great lunchtime pitstop. Will return to sample a proper meal soon.

Absolutely amazing! Beautiful locating. Super friendly staff. Great food. The most dogs and cats friendly pub in England. We had just such fantastic experience. Rosie is a legend! She's absolutely adorable!
Went to the Sunday carvery, the food was excellent, cooked well and a good range of vegetables to go with the choice of roasts. They were busy so advised to book, this also meant that there was a constant supply of fresh cooked food being brought out. I will be going again soon.
