Had a lovely meal last night....giant Yorkshire was indeed giant. Couldn't finish it all so hubby had to have the rest. Good food, reasonable prices and very friendly staff.....highly recommend visiting this pub if you're in the area
Just had a meal with a friend tonight and not what I was expecting. Had the curry of the day which I chose chicken madras. It came with chips, rice and a naan. It was very tasty. The curry itself came in a separate bowl and there was lots of it! The chips were proper home cooked chips. Very friendly service from the lady behind the bar too!
The taste of the food was fantastic and the portion size was great ..... the ladies who served us were so lovely and friendly, service was reasonable and the place was packed out. They are dog friendly too and there own dog is a little beauty. . Thanks for great food n fab service will definitely come back. Xxx
Lovely warm pub with the best pub food. Absolutely gorgeous food and absolutely amazing portions x
warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere and staff. Fantastic value for money yorkshire puddings were mammoth and extremely tasty would highly recommend to anyone local or visiting the area and no waiting hours for food a bonus with hungry children. Thank you and will definitely come again.
Everything about this pub is warm and welcoming from the staff to the surroundings.
We have stayed all weekend in the campsite behind the pub and visited the pub twice while here. The food on the Friday night was lovely. Quick service and piping hot. I was very pleased to be able to bring my dog as it's often hard to find somewhere to go. My little boy who is two had fish fingers chips and beans and loved it. We returned today for carvery and again was not disappointed. Will definitely return next time we are over this way. :)
A very friendly pub, great service and the food was excellent, I would recommend it, great value I shall use it again.
This is our go to pub for food when we are out and about pickering way.. Popped in on mother's day. We hadn't booked but managed to get a table no problem. Food and service was brilliant as usual but unfortunately some dog owners had been in the beer garden and not bothered picking their dogs mess up... 3 big piles off it just left and unfortunately one of our children stood in it and aswell as his shoes managed to get it up his trousers.. This happened after we'd ordered our food but before our meals arrived so he had no choice but to sit in the dirty trousers... Obviously we cleaned him down as best we could but really not a nice thing for him to have to do.
Lovely welcome and friendly staff. Also dog friendly and made our little Yorkie Molly feel at home. The food was amazing and spot on with homemade chips! Perfect stop from a day out to Whitby, before heading home! Highly recommend.
Really nice meals and comfortable place to sit with good beers, decent size bedroom and good shower! Would recommend.
Giant loaf tin Yorkshire pudding with beef is just the best, yum yum yum .
Lovely pup , fantastic food , Had the best Sunday lunch there yesterday , very friendly staff too .
Brilliant food would highly recommend it & the staff are lovely too.
Good food , lovely wood burning fire, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Dogs on leads are allowed in too so that's a huge bonus for us.
We stayed overnight in the motherhome . Brought mum with us & she stayed in the self catering accommodation. Everything was fabulous 👌. The food in the pub was really lovely & plentiful . The staff are so friendly & accommodating. Nothing was to much trouble . Second time here will def be back !!
Noticed this pub on the drive to Whitby and thought we'd stop in for tea on the way back and so glad we did. When we arrived the car park was busy and as we'd not booked I thought there was no chance for a table for six but the waitress was so friendly and accommodating she fitted us in. We all ordered something different and all said the same, delicious. The good thing was they, brought out the children's meals first which is very unusual these days as for some reason they always bring theirs out last so they are agitated. There was a few different beers on tap and several red wines to choose from. I think we'll definitely be going again when we are over that way, we might even book the caravan site next to.
Great Food! Didn't use the rooms but popped in for lunch with two hungry kids. Numerous gluten free options which I often find lacking in traditional pubs. Lovely service despite it being busy and the best GF Fish and Chips I've had (and I've had a fair few.) Portion sizes were super generous and everything really well cooked. We will be back to try the GF puddings one day as i was far too full on this occasion!
Spur of the moment overnight stay 10th February 2024.
Settled in to a lovely big warm immaculately clean room then returned to the open fires ambience of the pub for an evening meal. Absolutely brilliant food at very fair prices considering the size of the portions! Really didn't need the full English at breakfast but it would just be rude not to enjoy tasty fresh local produce cooked to order. Don't eat here if you're on a diet........
The food is amazing, you will never leave hungry. All the staff are wonderful and helpful and anything you want they will go out of their way to accommodate your needs.
I booked just for our teas on a bank holiday. The meals were delicious and will definitely use again when we're in the area.
Went here prior to Xmas with the Ryedale naturist club. It was a nice evening. The food was good. The staff were helpful. It was busy and from I have seen previously there are always people there.
It it also part of a camp site. Not far from Flamingoland or Eden camp museum. Good access to York.
Our first visit Saturday 9th December to the Black Bull I booked a table for 4 people, we had to wait for friends who where late, but the staff were patient, helpful and friendly.
The meal was excellent and all the staff provided us with superb service.
What a wonderful find ,will definitely be going again.

Had lunch here today, was served by Ally, she was great, very attentive and made the whole visit a pleasure. I hope the owners realise what a great asset you are to the business. Thank you. See you again
We go there for meals when we stay at the lodges down the road, their Sunday lunch is the best I've had it's value for money and delicious., ...
